Jerusalem 'price taggers' damage Jewish, Arab cars
Picture
Most likely targeting Arabs, 'price tag' act hits segregated Jerusalem street, causing damage to both Arab, Jewish property. Local residents slam racist act: 'Whoever wanted to harm Arabs got confused, though we as neighbors don't advocate such segregation'

The tires of five cars were slashed Wednesday night, and the words "price tag" sprayed in Jerusalem's Gilo street, in which both Jews and Arabs are known to reside. According to preliminary details, three of the vehicles belong to Arabs and two to Jews.

"Whoever did this must have thought they were damaging Arabs' cars, but this street also has Jewish residents," a source with the Jerusalem police told Ynet.

Smadar Avraham, a policewoman, was one of the Jewish victims of the vandals. "All the residents are appalled," she said. "I can't fathom what kind of hatred drives people to come over here and cause damage to the property of people who have done nothing wrong. In our neighborhood there's no difference between Jews and Arabs; we have great relationships and everyone takes care of each other."

"Whoever wanted to harm Arabs got confused, though we as neighbors don't advocate such segregation," Avraham added.

In Two Separate Incidents; Two Children Injured By Settlers Vehicles
Picture
Palestinian medical sources have reported that two Palestinian children have been seriously injured, on Wednesday, in two separate incidents after being rammed by settlers’ vehicles in the West Bank districts of Hebron and Nablus.

The sources said that a 9-year-old child was seriously injured after being rammed by a settlers’ car east in As-Salayma neighborhood, east of the Ibrahimi Mosque, in Hebron city. She was moved to a local hospital; the settler fled the scene.

Furthermore, a 16-year-old Palestinian child, identified as Marwan Zakariyya ‘As’ous, suffered serious injuries and was moved to the Rafidia Hospital, after being rammed by a settler’s car at the Beta Junction, south of Nablus.

Usama Malhees, head of the Rafidia Hospital, stated that the ‘As’ous suffered various fractures and is currently on life support at the Intensive Care Unit.

On May 14, Hanin Bassem Al-Ja’bary, 7, was injured after a settler rammed her with his vehicle close to the Ibrahimi Mosque, in the Old City of Hebron. The settler fled the scene.

Dozens of claims have been filed with the Israeli police and the military in the occupied territories regarding hit and run ramming incidents carried out by Israeli settlers, but no actual measures were taken on the ground.

Settler runs over a child in al-Khalil

An Israeli vehicle driven by a settler on Wednesday afternoon run over a 9-year-old Palestinian girl, near the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil. Palestinian human rights sources confirmed that a Jewish settler run over the child Zeinab Fakhouri in Salayma neighborhood east of the Ibrahimi Mosque and fled the scene.

The child was seriously injured and transferred to the hospital to receive treatment.

Deliberate hit and run cases by Israeli settlers and military vehicles continue to occur, especially on the bypass roads used by the settlers.

Jewish extremists run over a Palestinian female student near Safed
Picture
A female student at the Safed College, in the northern 1948-occupied territories, sustained injuries after being run over deliberately by Jewish extremists' vehicle; while crossing the road heading to her college. The Association of Arab students at Safed College asserted in a press statement that they recognized the car which belongs to supporters of the Jewish extremist Bar Salab.

Following the incident, the ambulances arrived to the place and took the student to the Western Galilee Hospital to receive treatment, while her father filed a complaint to the Israeli police.

The Association demanded the Israeli police to enforce the law and chase those extremists; especially because they fled from the place after running over the young woman.

Few days ago, Jewish extremists wrote racist slogans on the wall of an apartment in the city inhabited by three Palestinian female students from the same college.

Settlers attack a Palestinian village in the Negev
Picture
Palestinian sources in the Bedouin village of Bir Hadaj in the Negev, in the southern 1948 territories, said that Jewish extremists from Ratmim settlement attacked the village and its residents on Sunday evening.

Salman Ibn Ehmid, head of the local committee in the village, told Quds Press that a group of settlers from Ratmim settlement attacked the citizen Eid Abu Habak, and set fire to his tent and some of his properties.

The settlers closed the Western road leading to Bear Hadaj. In response, the villagers closed the eastern road to the settlement.

Ibn Ehmid added that he was attacked by one of the settlers and that confrontations erupted between the Palestinians and the Israelis; thus the occupation police forces intervened.

For his part; Arab MK Talab Abu Arar accused the Israeli police of standing by the Jewish settlers, as it arrested one of the Palestinian villagers.

He demanded the Israeli police to immediately arrest the settler who set fire to the tent, as well as the one who attacked the head of the local committee.

The town of Bir Hadaj has been recently exposed to repeated attacks by the Israeli policemen who have been storming the village in order to distribute demolition orders for a number of houses.

IOF raids al-Khalil, settlers burn lands in Nablus
Picture
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) raided Palestinian towns and villages around al-Khalil on Monday and erected military checkpoints at their entrances. Several military vehicles raided and searched a number of houses in Beit Ummar town north of al-Khalil. No arrests were reported. The IOF also broke into Dura, Samu, and Yatta towns south of the city and set up checkpoints on their entrances, local sources confirmed.

Israeli military vehicles were stationed the entrances to Aroub refugee camp and Seir town in the city of al-Khalil, the sources added.

The Israeli military measures in the Palestinian towns around al-Khalil came a few days after clashes that erupted between the IOF and Palestinian youths led to several injuries among the Israeli soldiers and the burning of a military jeep.

Meanwhile, Israeli settlers from Gilad settlement set fire to Palestinian lands belonging to villagers from the villages of Immatin and Fara’ta in an attempt to burn the wheat crop.

Eyewitnesses said that the Israeli forces prevented the Palestinian farmers from reaching their fields to put out the fire and arrested a Palestinian villager claiming he was trying to attack the soldiers.

Settlers severely beat handicapped boy near Hebron
Picture
Settlers assaulted a 16-year-old handicapped boy in Yatta on Tuesday, leaving him with bruising all over his body, official news agency Wafa reported.

Mohammad Shawaheen, 16, was attacked east of Yatta by settlers from Maon. He was taken to hospital for treatment

Last week, settlers from Maon torched two dunams of wheat fields in the south Hebron hills, which villagers managed to prevent from spreading to nearby land and homes.

Israeli forces rarely prosecute settlers for violence against Palestinians and their property, which is routine in the occupied West Bank.

Kerry calls Israel ambassador to protest WB outposts
Picture
In a rare move, the US secretary of state has called the Israeli ambassador to Washington to protest against the legalization of Israeli outposts in the occupied West Bank.

John Kerry phoned Israel’s Michael Oren on Thursday to demand explanation over the outposts Tel Aviv had previously promised to demolish, the Israeli daily Ha’aretz reported on its website.

Kerry asked Tel Aviv to rethink the decision made by the Israeli High Court of Justice, or at least postpone the legalization of the outposts. He warned that the move would undermine efforts to revive negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority (PA).

A phone call from the secretary of state to a foreign ambassador to demand explanation and voice protest is considered a very unusual move as such protests are usually conveyed through lower-level diplomatic channels.

The announcement of the outpost legalization comes despite Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s pledge to Kerry to “restrain” settlement activity.

The thorny issue prompted PA officials to leave the negotiating table in 2009 and to refuse to return to direct talks since then.

Israel’s decision regarding the illegal outposts comes on the eve of Kerry’s fourth visit to the Middle East region.

Kerry is due to meet Netanyahu in al-Quds (Jerusalem) on Thursday and Acting Palestinian Authority Chief Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah on Friday.

Bedouins embrace 'price tag'; hurl rocks on Negev community
Picture
Bedouins from village of Bir Hadaj hurl stones at cars of Retamim residents in response to State's destruction of illegal Bedouin structures; Retamim representatives say police unhelpful, locals pay price for 'State's conduct'

Residents of the Retamim community in the Negev said that several violent incidents, perpetrated by Bedouins from the nearby town of Bir Hadaj, occurred Sunday, adding that despite police presence, attacks continue to plague the community.

Two Retamim residents, Tamar Green and M., said that stones were hurled at their cars Sunday afternoon in two different instances. According to M., masked men drove around him and pelted his car with stones. "The masked men surrounded me and tried to attack me, until I fled to an area with police presence. Only then they let me go," he said.

"The residents of Retamim are paying the price for the conduct of the State and the police when it comes to Bir Hadaj," Chairman of the Ramat Negev Regional Council Shmulik Rifman said, adding that when police try to tear down the Bedouins' illegal structures, the Bedouins take their vengeance on the residents of Retamim.

Rifman referred to the Bedouins' offenses as "price tags," "which hurt the residents of Retamim. I will no longer sit quietly. Police are doing a lot, but it's not enough. "Throwing a rock at a woman on her way back from work is terror as far as I'm concerned, despite the fact the she happened to survive. With all due respect to the police and their efforts, they fail to bring about peace and quiet," he asserted. Retamim chairman Itzik Tzur said that "The residents of Retamim are good people who came to practice Zionism in the Negev. "Now, we find ourselves dealing with outlaws.

A small group of people who disrupt our lives. Sometimes they leave burning tires on the road, sometimes they hurl stones. We view these incidents as attempted murder." Head of the Regional Council of Unrecognized Villages of the Negev, Ibrahim al-Vakili, insisted that "We completely disapprove of stone throwing, regardless of whether its directed at Jews or Bedouins," adding that he would like Bedouins and Jews in the region to maintain amicable ties.

"Police are doing their job, but they can't be in the roads 24 hours a day," Vakili added. "They're supposed to maintain order at all times." Police reported that the circumstances of Sunday's incidents were under investigation, adding in a statement that "the police condemn all disruptive incidents and will exercise a zero tolerance policy toward vandals. A team of officers were called to the scene and restored the peace."

Israeli man 'sexually assaults' 2 boys in Jordan Valley

Picture
A human rights group said Saturday that it was "deeply disturbed" by reports that an armed Israeli man dressed in a police uniform sexually assaulted two Palestinian boys in the Jordan Valley in April.

Defense for Children International Palestine said that in late April an Israeli man driving a white car with yellow Israeli plates approached two 14-year-old boys attending goats north of Jericho, and with his firearm visible, ordered them to strip before sexually assaulting them one at a time.

The grandfather of one of the boys said that the Palestinian Authority Liaison office submitted a complaint to Israeli police, but the attacker has still not been found.

"It's been three weeks since these kids were sexually assaulted, and they live in fear with their attacker still on the loose," Ayed Abu Eqtaish, Accountability Program director at DCI-Palestine, said.

"We urge Israeli authorities to carry out a swift investigation and apprehend the suspect before he attacks again."

Israeli investigators have reportedly obtained statements from the boys, who said they would be able to identify their attacker in a lineup.

They described the man as average height, black hair, in his 30s and with a mole on his left cheek.

According to their testimony, the boys saw their attacker in the same area a few days after the assault and hid until he drove away.

Since 2009, there have been at least 20 cases of children alleging sexual abuse and threats by Israeli forces while being interrogated, DCI-Palestine says.

This is the first case to be documented where sexual abuse has taken place by an Israeli perpetrator in uniform outside of arrest or interrogation, the group added.

Israel youth movement shirts display anti-Arab racism

Picture
Picnickers in northern Israel were surprised Thursday when they saw anti-Arab racist slogans printed on T-shirts of a guide affiliated to a religious youth movement Ezra.

“Torching Arabs for education,” was written on the guide’s shirt, families who were picnicking in the north told the Israeli daily Maariv.

Maariv reported that it was not the first time such slogans were seen on T-shirts. A witness told the newspaper that he saw “death to Arabs” written on T-shirts wore by guides affiliated to the same movement.

Picture
Settlers from Beit El on Saturday evening threw a Molotov cocktail toward Palestinian vehicles on the Ramallah-Nablus road and near al-Jalazun refugee camp north of Ramallah.

The settlers threw Molotovs toward more than one Palestinian car, and even toward passers-by.

A Palestinian car completely burned due to a Molotov cocktail. No injuries were recorded. The driver of the car was able to escape without incident.

Civil defense crews rushed to the area and extinguished the fire.

Human Rights center condemns settlers' intention to storm al-Aqsa

Picture
A Palestinian human rights organization condemned the Israeli settlers' intention to storm al-Aqsa courtyards on Thursday to mark the so-called Shavuot Feast.

The settlers' attempts to break into al-Aqsa came in light of the Israeli continuous threat and schemes against al-Aqsa mosque, Himaya center stated.

The center condemned the Israeli escalation in total violation to the international laws and the Fourth Geneva Convention for the protection of places of worship.

The human rights center called on UN Security Council to accelerate the implementation of the international resolution concerning the protection of holy sites in occupied Jerusalem.

The center urged the international community and human rights institutions topped by UNESCO to intervene immediately to stop the Israeli attacks in al-Aqsa mosque.

Meanwhile, the Gaza government has called for the protection of al-Aqsa mosque and to confront the Israeli schemes to divide it.

Taher al-Nunu, spokesman for the government, called on Palestinians from Jerusalem and 1948 territories to rally in Al-Aqsa Mosque and to protect it from the Israeli Judaization plans.

He called on the Arab and Islamic nation to assume its responsibilities towards the Al-Aqsa Mosque the third holiest site in Islam.

Al-Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage said that the pace of raids in Al-Aqsa has increased, especially in recent days, and warned that the incursions will continue in the coming days.

Israel plans to legalize 4 settler units in occupied West Bank

Picture
An Israeli bulldozer sits at a construction site in East al-Quds (Jerusalem).

An Israeli court document shows that the Tel Aviv regime is planning to legalize four housing settlements already built in the occupied West Bank.

In a reply to a Supreme Court petition by the Israeli anti-settlement group Peace Now, the regime of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said it had adopted measures in recent weeks to legalize retroactively four West Bank settlements, which were constructed without official authorization, the court document showed on Thursday.

Nabil Abu Rdainah, a spokesman for acting Palestinian Authority chief Mahmoud Abbas, condemned the Israeli plan.

"Our position is clear and that is all settlement is illegal and must be stopped," he said.

Peace Now said in a statement that the “intention to legalize outposts as new settlements is… blatant reassurance to settler interests."

In recent months, Israel has given approval to build thousands of settler units on the occupied Palestinian territory, despite opposition from the United Nations and the international community.

The presence and continued expansion of Israeli settlements in occupied Palestine has created a major obstacle for the efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.

More than half a million Israelis live in over 120 illegal settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967.

The UN and most countries regard the Israeli settlements as illegal because the territories were captured by Israel in a war in 1967 and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbids construction on occupied lands.

Dr. Ashrawi Slams Israeli Plans to Legalize Illegal Settler ‘Outposts’

In response to Israel's most recent unilateral violations of international law, including plans to legalize settler 'outposts,' and the increase in settler violence against the Palestinian people and their resources, PLO Executive Committee member, Dr. Hanan Ashrawi said:

"Such an announcement to legalize four settler outposts in the territory of the State of Palestine (that were supposed to be demolished in 2003) shows the truth of an ongoing Israeli policy to create facts on the ground. It preempts the Secretary of State John Kerry's visit to the region next week, and makes a mockery at any attempt to launch viable negotiations. These actions send a clear message to both the Obama administration and to the Palestinian people that Israel is committed more to land theft than to peacemaking."

Dr. Ashrawi added: "The PLO also strongly denounces the repeated intrusions and attacks on al-Aqsa Mosque by extremist groups under the protection of the Israeli Army and Police. This constitutes a deliberate provocation to Muslims everywhere and threatens to unleash a religious conflict of dangerous proportions. Furthermore, the danger inherent in the settler violence is becoming increasingly visible in the reign of terror by settlers attacking innocent Palestinians, particularly in remote villages and rural areas, and their deliberate destruction of property and the uprooting of trees. It is evident that such patterns of behavior threaten to plunge the entire region into instability and violence and undermine global security."

"Such violations make it more imperative that Palestine accedes to international agreements and conventions to protect our rights and to join international agencies and organizations to ensure multilateral protection for Palestine and judicial accountability for Israel. We call on the United Nations, the European Union, the United States and members of the international community to undertake their responsibility in curbing Israeli deliberate violations of international law and Palestinian human rights. Israel must be held accountable with bold measures and initiatives before any and all chances for peace and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state are destroyed," concluded Dr. Ashrawi.

Settlers Attack Schoolchildren Near Nablus

Picture
A number of extremist Israeli settlers attacked several schoolchildren in Orif village, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Local sources reported that the settlers hurled stones at the students as they were leaving their school in the village,

The terrified children ran away, some suffered anxiety attacks, the sources said.

Rabbi accompanies Jewish settlers on storming of Aqsa

Picture
Extremist rabbi Yisrael Ariel stormed the holy Aqsa mosque in occupied Jerusalem on Thursday at the head of a group of Jewish settlers.

Jerusalemite sources said that groups of Jewish settlers stormed the Aqsa mosque via the Maghareba gate and strolled inside it under heavy police escort.

Worshipers and Quran students inside the mosque chanted Allahu Akbar to protest the tour.

For his part, Mahmoud Abu Atta, the spokesman for the Aqsa Foundation for endowment and Heritage, said that 32 settlers broke into the Aqsa mosque in three groups and toured its plazas and attempted to offer Talmudic rituals.

Abu Atta said that the Israeli police forces tightened security measures in and around the holy site and took shots of worshipers and students.

Tension is running high in occupied Jerusalem and the vicinity of the Aqsa mosque in light of the heavy deployment of Israeli police and military forces in anticipation of more such storming by Jewish settlers.

Settler Installs Mobile Home In Palestinian Land near Jerusalem

Picture
The Radio Bethlehem 2000 reported Thursday, May 16 2013, that an armed Israeli settler installed a mobile home in Nabi Samuel village, north west of occupied East Jerusalem.

Resident Eid Barakat, one of the owners of the land, stated that, as the family went to plant their land, they found the mobile home, in their land, with an armed settler sitting in it.

Barakat added that the family fears that the settlers are planning an illegal full takeover of their land, that became isolated by the Annexation Wall.

Nabi Samuel village, inhabited by nearly 300 Palestinians, is completely isolated and surrounded by the illegal Annexation Wall, and its residents are practically imprisoned in it.

Warnings of a new Nakba threatening Al-Aqsa Mosque

Picture
A senior Palestinian official called for protecting Al-Aqsa Mosque from a "new Nakba" threatening it due to the occupation practices that aim to impose Jewish control over it in preparation to demolish it and build the alleged temple on its ruins.

Yousef Edais, head of the Supreme Council of the Islamic courts in Palestine, called on the residents of Jerusalem and the 1948-occupied territories to intensify their presence in Al-Aqsa Mosque, in order to confront the repeated raids into its courtyards by the settlers and the extremist Jewish groups.

Edais said in a statement on Wednesday that Al-Aqsa Mosque has been witnessing daily raids by Jewish groups under the protection of the Israeli police, warning of attempts to divide it as they did in the Ibrahimi Mosque.

He warned of a scheme made by settlers’ leaders and senior Jewish rabbis to divide Al-Aqsa; stressing that it is a purely Islamic endowment and that the Jews have no right in it.

Israeli settler runs over Palestinian girl in al-Khalil

Picture
An Israeli settler ran over a 7-year-old Palestinian girl, Hanin Bassem Jabari, near al-Ibrahimi mosque in a-Khalil, Palestinian sources revealed on Tuesday.

The sources confirmed that the Israeli settler was driving too fast, heading to Kiryat Arba settlement where he ran over the girl and he left her bleeding.

The residents protested following the incident in front of the nearby Israeli military tower, while the girl was transferred to Hadassah Ein Karem Hospital in Jerusalem with moderate injuries.

The injured girl's family called on the PA to prosecute the Israeli settler.

MK calls for building synagogue inside the Aqsa mosque

Picture
Mordechai Eugev, a member of the Israeli Knesset, called on his government to build a synagogue in the Aqsa mosque’s southern area.

The Aqsa Foundation for Endowment and Heritage said in a press release on Wednesday that the Israeli escalation against the Aqsa mosque was ongoing, the latest being an article by MP Eugev, a member of the fanatic party Habayit Hayehudi, that called for building a synagogue inside it.

The statement coincided with the distribution of a detailed map of the alleged temple by Jewish settlers during their storming of the Aqsa mosque.

Unknown vandals set fire to two vehicles in the village of Nein near Afula and spray-painted "price tag" slogans in the vicinity earlier this week, Ynet has learned. A relative of one of the car owners said that the graffiti was similar to slogans found in Umm al-Qutuf.

Another resident claimed that the police tried to cover up the event by preventing its publication. "We shall not be silent and will take the necessary steps to stop the 'price tag' acts. If they continue there will be tough consequences in the Arab sector," he said.

Police said in response, "The incident in the village of Nein occurred several days ago. The Afula police station launched an investigation and was only informed of the graffiti today."

On Tuesday, it was reported that three vehicles were set on fire near a mosque in the village of Umm al-Qutuf in Wadi Ara and "price tag" graffiti was sprayed on the wall of the mosque alongside a Star of David and the word "Eviatar."

The graffiti likely refers to Eviatar Borovsky, who was stabbed to death in the Tapuach Junction last month.
