Israeli settler attack lands 80-year old farmer in hospital

Picture
A Palestinian elderly farmer who was attacked by a group of settlers while working his lands near Tulkarem Friday remains in the hospital and will likely require surgery, according to medical sources.

Hasan Barhoush, age 80, was working in his field in the village of Kafr al-Labad, as he has done for decades, when a group of settlers came out of Enav settlement and began to beat and kick him. He was taken to Thabit Hospital in Tulkarem, where he is being treated for multiple injuries.

Israeli settler attacks on unarmed Palestinians are frequent, and are rarely prosecuted. Two weeks ago a Palestinian man was badly beaten by an Israeli settlement security guard in the village of Susiya, in the southern West Bank.

Since that attack, settlers in the northern and southern West Bank have cut down more than 100 Palestinian olive trees, settlers near Nablus smashed the windows of Palestinian cars, and settlers began expanding a settlement near Tulkarem.

In addition, a new report has been released showing that Israel has allocated 99.3% of the land in the West Bank for settlement expansion, in direct violation of international laws, treaties and signed agreements with the Palestinians.

Earlier this month, a group of settlers attacked a Palestinian woman in Jerusalem, tearing off her head cover and shouting insults. In response, and Israeli officer posted on his Facebook page “It's a shame the Arab whore didn't die.”

No arrests have been made of any of the settlers who attacked Palestinians in the last month.

Eyewitnesses reported that 280 Israeli settlers raided and desecrated the Al-Aqsa Mosque from al-Magharbeh gate, in the morning hours, which provoked the Muslim worshipers and students and caused a state of tension inside the mosque and in its surrounding areas.

Clashes broke out between the Israeli police and the worshipers, and a number of Palestinian civilians were injured, the witnesses said.

They added that the policemen attacked Muslim worshipers and the Mosque's guards with electric shock batons and fired at them rubber-coated metal bullets and teargas grenades.

One of the guards and a number of worshipers suffered suffocation and were taken to Al-Aqsa Mosque's clinic to receive treatment, while 10 other worshipers were arrested by the Israeli forces.

The eyewitnesses pointed out that the Islamic Endowments in Jerusalem has closed the Magharbeh gate for the day, to prevent the settlers from entering the Al-Aqsa Mosque, to celebrate the Jewish Passover.

Settlers confiscate Palestinian land in Nablus

Picture
Israeli settlers established fish farming ponds in Ain Rabii south of the city of Nablus, expanding their settlement activities in that area, Palestinian center revealed. Mahmoud al-Sifi, director of Nablus Land Research Center, stated that settlers from Bracha settlement, established on lands belonging to Burin village south of Nablus, have recently begun building fish farming ponds in Ein Mkhna area in Kafr Kalil and Burin villages.

The activist against settlement projects confirmed that according to eyewitnesses the Israeli settlers have established fish farming ponds and a swimming pool at the expense of the residents' lands.

Al-Sifi warned of the acceleration of settlement projects in that area to reach a group of Palestinian houses owned by the Kurdi family, especially in light of the continued settlers' attempt to confiscate the land.

He pointed out to the confiscation of Palestinian properties and lands by Israeli settlers more than once in several Palestinian villages including Kafr Kalil, Burin, and Hawara.

Al-Aqsa Foundation said in a press statement on Thursday that the opening of the institute is taking place at a very critical time, simultaneously with the Jewish malicious schemes targeting al-Aqsa Mosque.

It noted that the museum contributes in propagating the Jewish narrative about the alleged temple and distorting the true history of Al-Aqsa Mosque.

The Foundation warned of the seriousness of such move, and called on Muslims and Arab leaders and officials to place the issue of Al-Aqsa Mosque on top of their agenda and to take serious decisions to protect the mosque from the occupation plans.

Dr. Erakat Condemns the Recent Raid on the Al-Aqsa Compound by Israeli Settlers

Picture
On Thursday 28th March, Chief Palestinian Negotiator, Dr. Saeb Erekat, condemned in a press release the Israeli official incitement and attacks against Occupied East Jerusalem, and particularly the latest Israeli raids of settlers and occupation forces on the Al-Aqsa compound.

"We've witnessed this before, and we know what the consequences are. The entering of Al-Aqsa compound by a settler official and Knesset Member like Mr. Feiglin, in coordination with Israeli Occupation Forces, is a violation of the sanctity of the place as well as a direct provocation against Palestine, the Arab- and Muslim world."

"At a time when the international community is calling on Israel to respect the sanctity of the holy places, Israel is deliberately attacking Palestinian Christians and Muslims in Occupied East Jerusalem. Israel provides security in the form of the army, police and mercenaries to escort settlers who systematically attack Christian and Muslim shrines in the occupied Palestinian capital." Dr Erekat said.

Dr Erekat added: "The invasion of Al-Aqsa compound occurs at the same time as thousands of Palestinian Christians are being barred from accessing their holy sites in East Jerusalem. This is a vivid example of Israel's disrespect for freedom of worship and the Palestinian presence in Occupied East Jerusalem.

Dr. Erekat concluded: "Those who have been attacked while praying at Al-Aqsa or when trying to reach the Church of the Holy Sepulcher continue to ask whether the international community will end Israel's impunity or not. We have continuously highlighted the dangerous consequences of Israel's official and systematic incitement of attacks against Palestinians. It is time for the international community to take effective action on the ground in order to end decades of injustice, occupation and suppression of Palestinian rights."

Israeli police allowed Muslim worshipers to enter al-Aqsa compound after denying them access to prevent contact with the Jewish extremists. Police took identity cards of the worshippers to be returned to them as they leave the Mosque.

Extremist rabbis have called on their followers to enter al-Aqsa Mosque to mark the Passover holiday and perform religious rituals there.

Worshipers foil MK attempt to storm Aqsa mosque

Picture
The presence of a big number of worshipers in the Aqsa mosque foiled an attempt by Knesset member Moshe Feiglin to storm it in the company of a number of settlers.

Jerusalemite sources said that Feiglin’s attempt on Wednesday was indefinitely postponed after the Israeli police forces prevented him from entering fearing clashes with the big number of worshipers inside it.

The Aqsa foundation for endowment and heritage said that Sheikh Abdulazim Salhab, the head of the Awkaf council, and Sheikh Mohammed Hussein, the Mufti of Al-Quds, were among the worshipers.

Homesh was evacuated in 2005 as part of Israel's plan to remove some settlements from the West Bank, but settlers often return to the settlement in an attempt to rebuild it.

MK Feiglin’s Attempt to Storm Al-Aqsa Mosque Failed

Picture
the attempt of the Israeli Knesset Member Moshe Feiglin to break into al-Aqsa mosque failed after Palestinian worshipers lined up in a human barrier, which made the Israeli police prevent him from entering to prevent the fierce reactions of the provoked Palestinian worshipers, according to Palestinian official news agency WAFA correspondent.

Feiglin made calls to the supporters of the Israeli extremist right wing, in the past few days, to break into al-Aqsa mosque for Passover Sacrifices at the mosque's yards.

Meanwhile, small groups of settlers, under the protection of Israeli police, broke into the mosque through Bab El-Magharbeh gate.

The Palestinian ministry of foreign affairs, in a political statement, considered these acts, in addition to the escalated breaking of settlers into the mosque, a proof to the continued Israeli targeting of al-Aqsa mosque

The ministry said that these measures reflect the Israeli government's plans to tense the situation and undermine the international and U.S. attempts to revive the peace process and serious negotiations.

It called on the international community and quartet to take the necessary measures to stop this aggression immediately.

Settlers demand change in rules of engagement: 'Stones also kill'

Picture
West Bank Jews urge stone-throwing be treated the same as live fire, following recent attacks on routes 5 and 443; data shows surge in stone-throwing attacks, with 250 incidents in February alone.

Settlers, backed by Knesset Member Avigdor Lieberman, are urging the IDF to change its rules of engagement and treat stone-throwing the same as live fire.

The appeal followed a recent surge in stone-throwing incidents across the West Bank, which culminated in the severe injury of three-year-old Adele Biton on Route no. 5, a main road across Samaria.

Following November's Operation Pillar of Defense in Gaza, the number of stone-throwing attacks leaped to 70 in December, 120 in January and 250 in February.

The central areas for stone-throwing are the Gush Etzion-Hebron road, the Huwara village near Nablus, Wadi Haramieh and recently also main roads such as Route no. 5 and Route no. 443 between Modiin and Jerusalem.

"People I don't know tried to kill me," complained Rabbi Haim Navon, whose windshield was smashed by a stone on Route 443 over the weekend.

"You can't say anymore that it's only about some secluded roads on the way to a settlement at the end of the world," he said.

"But stone-violence in these far-off areas mustn't be tolerated, because if you tolerate that, you will have to face the same on Route no. 443. And if we keep holding ourselves back, we'll get stones on Route 1 as well."

Over the last few days settler leaders have appealed the political echelon to change the rules of engagement, which determine what provides sufficient cause for opening fire, and asked that stone-throwing be treated the same as live-fire, as "a stone also kills."

The appeal was led by Yesha Chairman Avi Roeh and backed by former foreign minister and current MK Lieberman.

But the increase in stone-throwing incidents is just a part of a general trend. According to Shin Bet data, not including stone-throwings, January saw 83 terror attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem, compared to 41 the previous year.

In February, the number rose to 138, including the planting of 15 explosive charges, 2 stabbings, one attack in which an Israeli was run over and 119 Molotov cocktails lobbed at Israeli citizens.

The newspaper quoted Yesha Council Chairman Avi Roeh as saying that the appeal came following the increase in stone-throwing incidents in the West Bank.

According to Shin Bet data, not including stone-throwing, January saw 83 attacks in the West Bank and Jerusalem, compared to 41 the previous year, the newspaper added.

The center recorded in a statement on Monday evening six attacks carried out by groups of settlers and Jewish extremists against Jerusalemites from Silwan and the Old City of Jerusalem, during the last week, between the 16th and the 25th March.

The last of these attacks took place on Monday, when four Jewish extremists abused 16-year-old Mansour Abu Madi, from the village of Silwan, while heading to school in the morning, at the Mughrabi Gate.

While the boy was defending himself, the settlers called policemen, who arrived and arrested him.

Abu Madi pointed out that he was held in the police station in Salah al-Din Street for more than three hours for interrogation. Now he is under house arrest for ten days, he is only allowed to leave for school accompanied by his father.

The Information Center in Wadi Hiweh pointed out that on March 20 a 9-year-old Jerusalemite child was attacked, as two Jewish extremists throw a piece of glass at him from a close distance, causing him a deep wound in the face.

The child stated that he saw one of the settlers who attacked him the next day despite the fact that the police claimed in a statement that they arrested the attackers.

A 16-year-old settler has also attacked Dina Jwiles, 14, and her brother Mohammed, 12, on March 18 in the neighborhood of Wadi Hilweh in Silwan, as they were heading to their school.

When the child was defending herself, the security guards in the settlement of City of David arrived and held her. Dina and her brother were then arrested by the police.

The Foundation warned in a press statement of the repercussions and the dimensions of such break-ins.

It called on worshipers and students from Jerusalem and the 1948-occupied territories to gather at the mosque and to intensify their daily presence inside it in order to protect it.

The group has also demanded the Arab League, holding a meeting in Doha, to take the appropriate decisions that preserve the sanctity of the Al-Aqsa Mosque from the occupation.

"The incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque, which took place yesterday, were accompanied by the performance of Talmudic rituals under the guidance of rabbis, who have a prominent role in the file of Judaization and the call for the construction of the alleged temple," the Al-Aqsa Foundation said.

It called for organizing continuous events and activities that confirm rejection of Israeli schemes, and develop a program to liberate Al-Aqsa Mosque from the occupation.

The Aqsa foundation for endowment and heritage said that deputy speaker of the Knesset Moshe Feiglin called on the Jews to defile the Aqsa Mosque on Wednesday to celebrate their Passover festival.

In a press release, the Aqsa foundation held the Israeli occupation regime fully responsible for the implications of such Jewish violations against the sanctity of the Islamic Aqsa Mosque.

It emphasized that the Aqsa Mosque is a purely Islamic holy site and any Jewish presence inside any part of it is illegal and sacrilegious.

The foundation called on the Palestinians in Jerusalem and the occupied territories to intensify their presence in the Aqsa Mosque to guard it from the Jewish break-ins and appealed to the 24th Arab summit to be held today to take action to protect the Mosque.

For its part, the assembly of the Palestinian trade unions demanded the Arab summit conferees to put the issue of Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque at the top of their agendas and to urgently act to confront the Jewish desecration campaigns against the holy Mosque.

In a press release on Sunday, the assembly urged the summit to activate the resolutions issued during previous summits regarding the Arab support for Jerusalem and the Aqsa Mosque.

It also called for highlighting the issue of the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails and taking political moves to support their rights.
