The most dangerous Judaization project in occupied Jerusalem
Picture
The Israeli occupation, with its political, security, military and intelligence arms, continues to carry out its plans against Al-Aqsa Mosque in order to realize building the so-called Jewish Temple.

Perhaps, the most dangerous project is the approval of the Israeli occupation of a plan to expand the arena opposite to the western side of the wall of Al-Buraq, which is part of the wall of Al-Aqsa Mosque that has been recognized as such by an international committee over almost a century ago, following pressures from the office of the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Yusuf Al-Natsheh, Director of Archeology and Tourism at the Islamic Waqf, confirms that the new Israeli plan to expand the area of Al-Buraq Wall is a big and dangerous settlement project that was presented five years ago by the office of the Israeli Prime Minister, with some of its details already revealed during the past years, noting that it was really a huge project.

Different-phases projects

He added to the PIC reporter that the danger lies in the fact that these projects are implemented through different phases, including the Straus Building, the House of Halva as well as other buildings outside the walls of the Mughrabi Gate behind the Umayyad palaces, known as the Givati Building.

“We are seeing the implementation a series of projects linked to each other to change the features of the region and the holy city. The most dangerous plan is of two phases in Al-Buraq Wall area. The first of which links the Mughrabi Gate with the Jerusalem Wall, with the northern boundary of the wall, where Al-Tankazia School is located just next to the entrance of the western tunnel. This arena will be for services and parking, restaurants, buses and transportation, and the upper area of it is a large prayer area that is parallel to Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Al-Natasha described it as the largest Judaization project ever and is being implemented in the Old City of Jerusalem. The most dangerous project, whether in terms of expansion of Al-Buraq Square and the Reform Judaists building, is that secret plan regarding the Umayyad palaces and the entrance of the Mughrabi Gate and excavations and tunnels that no one knows how to get into or out of.

Al-Natsheh pointed to the seriousness of the plan regarding the Arab and Islamic narrative about Jerusalem as well as their presence in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and the surrounding areas, where the Israeli occupation is planning to implement this huge project to serve the Israeli and Jewish narrative about the holy city of Jerusalem.

He adds: “We know that there is a serious activity and excavations, in addition to tunnels, but we cannot learn its details without entering there and examining their danger to Al-Aqsa Mosque. We rely on reports and leaks as well as connecting some of the dots and information we get from press reports about what is going on in the vicinity of the Mosque.”

He pointed out that the area of Al-Buraq Square is a space attached to Al-Aqsa Mosque, which is of great importance in terms of neighboring sites, an extension of the Mosque and its architectural development, both during the Arab and Islamic periods or even before.

Archaeological remains

Al-Natsheh explains that the archaeological remains of the different historical eras in the Mughrabi Gate and the area of Al-Buraq Square have been revealed, which were not as expected by the Israelis.

He added: “The region is historical that is dating back to the Roman and the Arab Islamic eras, including the remains of Umayyad palaces highlighting the history of the Islamic civilizations in the prosperous times in Jerusalem. This includes the Ayyubid era where the architecture of the Afdalayia School and Waqf buildings highlights the greatness in in that area all the way to the Moroccan Neighborhood, an area closely linked to the history of the city and Al-Aqsa Mosque and its architectural development.

Historical importance

Al-Natsheh pointed to the historical, architectural and cultural importance of the Buraq Wall and what surrounds it of bustling life and the religious and heritage emotions revealed by many historical documents that are preserved in the records of the Islamic Court, which includes describing life of the residents as well as their emotional connection to the place. This area has been targeted by Israel for a long time.

Israel’s illegal settlement activity under full swing in Salfit
Picture
Israeli bulldozers continue to level Palestinian lands across Salfit province to expand nearby illegal settlement outposts.

Speaking with a PIC news correspondent, eye-witnesses said Israeli bulldozers razed Palestinian lands near Leshem settlement, west of Salfit, and in Deir Balout, Kafr al-Dick, Rafat, and al-Zawiya, among other areas.

Expert in settlement affairs Khaled Maali said Israeli bulldozers continue to level Palestinian lands across Salfit around the clock for the benefit of illegal settlement expansion and infrastructure development.

Maali said such activities contravene international humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention.

He added that since the swearing-in of the new US administration, Israel’s illegal settlement activity has seen a striking upsurge, in violation of international laws and treaties.

In photos - Israeli settlers build houses in Jordan Valley
Israeli settlers started building and setting up housing structures in a settlement outpost in Khirbet al-Sweida village in Tubas in the northern Jordan Valley of the West Bank.

Activist Aaref Daraghmeh said that Israel confiscated thousands of dunums of lands from its original Palestinian owners for Israeli settlement expansion in the area.

Daraghmeh said that Israeli settlers set up mobile homes "caravans" five kilometers away from the "al-Sweida" settlement outpost near the village.

He pointed out that settlers raised the Israeli flag on the structures.

The settlement outpost was set up in May, 2018 south of the Shadmot
Mehola Israeli settlement, the only area where Palestinian shepherds could herd their sheep.

The closure of the area would close off thousands of dunums of lands where Palestinian farmers could shepherd their sheep; the new settlement outpost would close obstruct the daily lives of dozens of families and land owners in the area.

Forming a third of the occupied West Bank, with 88 percent of its land classified as Area C -- under full Israeli military control, the Jordan Valley has long been seen by Israel as a strategic area to maintain under its authority.

International rights organisations consider the continuation of the Israeli campaign which targets Palestinians in the Jordan Valley, whether though confiscations, demolitions or evictions under the pretext of holding military exercises, as a violation of international humanitarian law.

Tubas is one of the West Bank's most important agricultural centers.

The majority of the Jordan Valley is under full Israeli military control, despite being within the West Bank. Meanwhile, at least 44 percent of the total land in the Jordan Valley has been re-appropriated by Israeli forces for military purposes and training exercises.

According to the Palestinian nonprofit the Applied Research Institute - Jerusalem (ARIJ), more than 400,000 dunums (98,842 acres) of the 720,000 dunums (177,916 acres) that make up the total area of the Jordan Valley has been transformed into closed military and firing zones, with at least 27,000 dunums (6,672 acres) confiscated for illegal Israeli settlement building.

Report: Israel Using Judicial System to Facilitate Settlement Project

The National Bureau for Defending the Land and Resisting Settlement stated that the Israeli Central Court’s resolution on keeping hundreds of settlement units in the occupied West Bank, under an Israeli judicial procedure called “market regulations,” is a dangerous precedent that retroactively paves the way for the renewal of building settlements, and grants the settlers more incentives to steal more Palestinian lands without punishment.

The market regulations stipulated that any deal in the West Bank with or without the consent of the Civil Administration is valid, which means the settlement of the Jews in the West Bank is legal, and the compensation of the land owners is possible. Therefore, no need to evacuate the settlers and the decision is applied on hundreds of settlement units in the West Bank, so there will no longer be a need to evacuate those units, either.  The Judge, Arnon Dral assured his acceptance of the settlers’ claims that they settled the land with the consent of the military governor and therefore do not have to evacuate.

The central court in Jerusalem’s decision came to ground the settlement outposts of “Mitzpe Kramim”, to reveal once again the reality of the political maneuvers that Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu stands behind, to gradually legitimize settlement outposts, recalling the deliberations conducted by the Israeli Supreme Court, several years ago, that revealed the truth of the leadership position which, by all means, intends to plunder Palestinian land.

These deliberations have repeatedly confirmed that this is a settlers’ government.

Members of the Knesset and ministers of the Israeli government welcomed the decision of the Central Court in Jerusalem, to settle the settlement outpost of Mitzpe Kramim, under the claim that it was established “in good faith.” Not only was the decision of the Central Court welcomed, but asserted that the high court shall not deal with Palestinian appeals as MK, Nissan Slomiansky of the Jewish House said that the Central Court is worthy of respect because it activated an item that prevented the high court from enforcing any decision.

For his part, Knesset Spokeperson, Yuli Edelstein said that “the determination of the settlers in Mitzpe Kramim has proven itself,” and welcomed the decision of the Central Court, considered it “just” and that it is required to be issued by the court. He also stressed the continuation of strengthening settlement. Moreover, the Central Court clearly proposed that a person who is settled by a State permit can act in good faith that his home will not be evicted, adding that this is a blessed month for settlement, in that the decision of the central court regarding the settlement of Mitzpe Kramim comes after the approval of the establishment of 3 new settlements.

Hebrew media also welcomed the decision, as Hebrew newspaper “Yediot Ahronot” said that the decision to legitimize outpost came under the pressure of the Israeli Minister of Justice, Ayelet Shaked, who praised the judicial decision. The decision of the court will be reflected on the fate of hundreds of settlement units built on private Palestinian land.

Recently, settlers have established an illegal settlement outpost near the settlement of Eli, on the land of the Qariot and Sawiya villages, south of Nablus. Five buildings were erected in the area. The Civil Administration stated that it didn’t have any idea on that. Head of the Settlement Council, Mati Binyamin, said that he also does not know about the settlement.

A tent was also found in the area, and a building likely to be used for housing. A commercial vehicle was seen loaded with furniture. According to Palestinian sources, a group of settlers from the evacuated settlement of Amona set up 5 tents and foundations to construct a sheep-tent on privately owned Palestinian land located between the settlements of Shilo and Eileh.

On the other hand, there is competition between party leaders and public opinion in Israel, which is more supportive of settlement activities, especially as the municipal elections in Jerusalem are drawing nearer. It has been revealed that the work will begin in early September, on a project to build hundreds of settlement units in the heart of the town of Beit Hanina, north of occupied Jerusalem.  Mayor of the occupation in Jerusalem, during a closed political conference said that 124 settlement units, approved by the Planning Committee of the 324, is expected to be built in the heart of the Palestinian town, claiming that the lands on which the settlement will be built were purchased 15 years ago, by Jewish funds, with the aim of creating a series of settlements in Jerusalem.

Israeli Education Minister, Naftali Bennett said that the momentum of settlement construction in West Bank settlements and occupied Jerusalem should continue. He added, in remarks broadcast by the official Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, that “the discourse on the Israeli street has changed so that it is now focused on the application of Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank and Jerusalem, instead of talking about the principle of a two-state solution . In a meeting with settler leaders in the West Bank, on the eve of the Jewish New Year, he said that his party was working through the ruling coalition to expand settlements in the West Bank and raise the number of Jewish settlers to one million, over the coming years. Israeli Defense Minister, Avigdor Lieberman threatened to continue settlement construction in response to continued operations in the West Bank: “Israel will continue to build settlements, in the settlement of Adam, and everywhere.”

In Ras Karkar village, west of Ramallah, the head of the Wall and Settlement resistance committee, Walid Assaf, was injured by a rubber-coated metal bullet, in the ear, during the course of his protest against Israeli soldiers’ attempt to seize the Jabal al-Risan area, to the west of the village. Israeli occupation forces fired rubber-coated bullets at Assaf from a close range, wounding him in the left ear, while two of his bodyguards were wounded in the hand and the back. Two other demonstrators also suffered injuries, along with an Israeli solidarity activist.

In Jerusalem, settlers confiscated accompanied by representatives of the “General Trustee – Custodian of Absentees’ Property”, a private plot of land belonging to Abdul Razaq Sheikh, near his house. The land is about 50 square miles, located in the western part of Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, where Israelis bulldozed and uprooted fruitful trees, and of which the General Trustee – Custodian of Absentee Property has claimed ownership.

Israel to approve new settlement units in Beit Hanina
Picture
Israeli Jerusalem Municipality's Local Planning and Construction Committee is planning to construct some 150 new settlement housing units in the Palestinian neighborhood of Beit Hanina, in occupied East Jerusalem.

According to Israel Hayom news outlet, Israeli Jerusalem municipal officials will meet on Wednesday to discuss a plan to construct 75 illegal Israeli settlement units in Beit Hanina neighborhood.

Sources added that the construction plan will, for the first time, include a settlement expansion in Beit Hanina near the Ramat Shlomo illegal Israeli settlement.

The Committee is expected to approve the plan, which will grant 45 days for the submission of any objections.

Israel's policy of expanding settlements and outposts has been escalating recently due to the United States President Donald Trump approving three times more the amount of settlement units than that which was approved in the year and half before his inauguration.

Since the occupation of the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, in 1967, between 500,000 and 600,000 Israelis have moved into Israeli settlements in occupied Palestinian territory, in violation of international law.

The estimated 196 government recognized Israeli settlements scattered across the Palestinian territory are all considered illegal under international law.

189 Homes Still Face Threat Of Demolition In Al-Walaja
Picture
Waleed Assaf, the head of the National Commission against the Israeli Annexation Wall and Colonies, said that the al-Walaja village, west of Bethlehem, is still facing the Israeli demolition of 189 of its homes.

Speaking to the Palestinian Radio on Tuesday morning, Assaf said the demolitions are part of a large illegal colonialist plan to expand its colonies in the southern part of occupied Jerusalem, and link them with Gush Etzion Block.

His statement came after the army demolished, on Monday at dawn, four Palestinian homes in the village, after an Israeli court rendered its final ruling against them.

He added that the families of the demolished homes are now living in tents,

and received some basic aid to survive until a solution is found to ease their plights.

Several months ago, the Jerusalem City Council announced the annexation of large areas of Palestinian lands, in order to build and expand its illegally segregated colonies.

This illegal policy places an imminent threat of demolition of 189 Palestinians homes in the village.

Hanini: Israeli court’s settlement legalizing a “dangerous step’
Picture
Senior Hamas official Abdul-Hakim Hanini has described the Israeli court decision to legitimize a new settlement outpost in western Ramallah as “a dangerous step paving the way for legalizing all outposts in the occupied West Bank.”

In press remarks on Friday, Hanini said that “the resistance option is the only means to deter the occupation, and curb its settlement expansion and its ongoing aggression against the Palestinian people and their land.”

The Hamas official also said that the Jerusalem district court’s decision in this regard and its claim that the settlers acted in good faith when they established their outpost, Mitzpe Kramim, on privately owned Palestinian land vindicated further that the Israeli judicial system has no legitimacy.
