Checkpoints and closures near Ramallah after Israeli officer stabbed
Picture
Israeli forces tightened security procedures in the central West Bank on Monday evening after an Israeli security officer was stabbed by an unidentified attacker in a nearby settlement.

Israeli forces closed a checkpoint near the Palestinian village of Jaba southeast of Ramallah to Palestinian cars after reports of a stabbing in Geva Binyamin settlement.

The closure caused major delays for Palestinian commuters on one of the West Bank's busiest north-south roads, although Jewish settlers traveling on the roads were free to pass through the checkpoints.

The Palestinian liaison department told Ma'an that Israeli troops closed the checkpoint between Jaba and Ramallah to Palestinian vehicles for more than two hours. As a result, hundreds of Palestinian vehicles were lined up in both directions unable to travel to Ramallah or to Bethlehem.

Liaison officers added that Israeli forces also erected a flying checkpoint in a mountainous area north of Jericho, inspecting all Palestinian vehicles traveling in the area.

A Ma'an reporter, who was caught traveling from Ramallah to Bethlehem, confirmed that the three-way intersection near the village of Jaba was closed to Palestinian vehicles creating a heavy traffic jam.

Israeli forces maintain severe restrictions on Palestinians' freedom of movement in the West Bank through a complex combination of fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, roads forbidden to Palestinians but open exclusively to Jewish settlers, and various other physical obstructions.

At any given time there are about 100 permanent Israeli checkpoints in the West Bank, while surprise flying checkpoints often number into the hundreds.

The internationally recognized Palestinian territories of which the West Bank and East Jerusalem form a part have been occupied by the Israeli military since 1967.

Hamas: The bus attack in Bat Yam is a natural reaction to Israel's crimes
Picture
The Hamas Movement has hailed the operation that targeted a bus near Tel Aviv as "heroic" and described it as a natural reaction to Israel's ongoing crimes against the Palestinians and their property. "The Islamic Resistance Movement of Hamas gives its blessing to Bat Yam operation and considers it a daring heroic act in response to the occupation's crimes," Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum stated in a press release.

Barhoum added that the operation confirms that the resistance in the occupied Palestinian lands is still alive despite all attempts to eliminate or undermine it.

Other Palestinian factions, including Islamic Jihad, also welcomed the operation, without declaring responsibility for the attack.

Different statements issued by some of the resistance factions charged that Israel's persistent crimes and its protection of its settlers' daily violations against the Palestinians in Jerusalem and the West Bank are always the main cause of what they described as "Palestinian counterattacks."

The Israeli police on Sunday said that an explosive device had detonated inside an Israeli public bus in Bat Yam city, south of Tel Aviv.

According to the police, the passengers left the bus after they spotted an unattended suspicious bag and escaped the area before the blast happened.

According to the newspaper Jerusalem Post, an Israeli patrolwoman was lightly wounded in the blast during her presence near the bus.

Suspicious object on bus draws attention of driver who calls bomb disposal unit. Passengers cleared, attempt to neutralize objects ends in blast

An explosion occurred on bus No.240 in Bat Yam while the bomb squad was removing a suspicious object. The bus was stopped at Mivtza Sinai and Katznelson streets.

A police officer was injured lightly and was evacuated to the Edith Wolfson Medical Center in Holon. Police have said that the background is nationalistic. The bus was on the way to Bat Yam from Bnei Brak.

The passengers had left the bus before the explosion occurred.

According to a preliminary investigation, a police bomb disposal unit was called in to tend to the suspicious object on the bus.

A spokesperson for bus company Dan, Eitan Fiksman, said one of the 12 passengers on the bus alerted the driver that there was a suspicious object on the bus. "The passenger opened the knapsack and saw wires. The driver stopped, called the police and told the passengers to get off."

The driver, Micahel Yoger, told Ynet that he quickly identified that the knapsack could be a bomb.

"A woman on the bus told me that there was a knapsack on the bus. I asked her if it belonged to anybody, but I understood that it didn't so I told everyone to get off the bus at the next stop. After a few minutes the bus exploded."

The knapsack was relatively large and it was black, he said.

Fiksman said, a member of the bomb squad performed a controlled detonation of the object.

The passengers were ordered to leave the bus, as the sapper was tending the object.

Ya'alon: We are ready to face any Palestinian escalation in the W. Bank
Picture
Moshe Ya'alon is responsible for countless war crimes against the Palestinians

Israeli war minister Moshe Ya'alon said that the Israeli security agencies watch with great concern the growing spate of Palestinian resistance operations in the West Bank and are ready to deal with any escalation. Ya'alon made his remarks during a session held by the Knesset committee on foreign affairs and security on Wednesday.

He expressed his belief that the wave of what he described as the recent subversive attacks were unbearable and resulted from the Palestinian incitement campaign and the failure of the Palestinian authority to curb it.

The Israeli official, however, ruled out the possibility that such Palestinian attacks would be an engine for a third intifada.

For his part, head of the committee Avigdor Lieberman said that any peace settlement with the Palestinian side must be based on a long-term transitional agreement guaranteeing security for Israel and economic well-being for the Palestinians.

Aruri urges resistance in W. Bank for more heroic operations against occupation
Picture
Member of Hamas's political bureau Saleh Aruri called on the armed wings of the Palestinian factions in the West Bank for more heroic operations that could inflict painful blows on the Israeli occupation and its lackeys, and torpedo their conspiracies. Aruri made his remarks in a press release commenting on Israel's assassination of Mohamed Asi, a resistance fighter, on Tuesday morning.

The Hamas official highlighted that the resistance in all its forms are the only option to liberate the land and restore dignity and the usurped rights.

For his part, Abu Obeida, the spokesman for the armed wing of Hamas Al-Qassam Brigades, mourned the death of Mohamed Asi, who were killed yesterday in armed clashes with Israeli soldiers west of Ramallah.

Spokesman Abu Obeida said that there are men in the West Bank waiting for the moment of the popular explosion in the face of the Israeli occupation.

"The occupied West Bank is like embers under the ashes, where there are resilient resistance and living martyrs waiting for a moment of explosion in the face of the occupation," the spokesman said.

In a related context, thousands of Palestinian citizens as well as officials of some Palestinian factions marched in the funeral procession of martyr Asi following the afternoon prayers on Wednesday in his native village Beit Lakiya.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) handed over on Tuesday afternoon the body of martyr Mohamed Asi to his family through the Red Cross.

The IOF had tried for about 11 months to detain or kill Asi before they discovered his whereabouts and killed him with an anti-tank projectile on Tuesday morning after encircling the cave where he was hiding and engaging in armed clashes with him for hours.

The IOF accused Asi of being the architect of the bus operation which took place on November 21, 2012 and led to the injury of dozens of Israelis.

Israeli officer: West Bank atmosphere does not bode well
Picture
A senior Israeli officer in the IOF's so-called Central Command described the atmosphere currently prevailing in the West Bank as that of military actions and negative intentions. He told Israel's 10 Channel that the atmosphere does not bode well in the wake of the recent operations; it is true that there is no connection between them, but today the atmosphere is favorable for those thinking to carry out a military operation.

Israeli army minister Moshe Ya'alon said Tuesday morning while touring the Jewish Quarter in occupied Hebron that "as long as there is no infrastructure for what he called 'terrorism' in the West Bank, such operations shall remain individual, and can be controlled; there are no signs of a looming third intifada,"

A Palestinian resistance operative has been killed in the Kafr Ne'ma village to the west of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank in an armed clash with Israeli forces who surrounded the Caves area.

Army Claims Uncovering Explosive Charge On Gaza Border
Picture
Israeli military sources claimed Monday [October 21, 2013] that Israeli soldiers, manning the border with Gaza, managed to uncover a high velocity explosive charge, near Kissufim area, on the border with the Gaza Strip. The army said that explosive experts were called to the scene and defused the object without any incidents.

On its webpage, the Israeli military stated that the explosive was powerful enough to cause serious damage, and casualties, even if hit soldiers in well-fortified military vehicles.

It said that the explosive was located during a routine check carried out by soldiers of the Golani Brigade, operating in the border area.

An Israeli officer of the Southern Brigade said that the explosive is part of ongoing attempts by armed Palestinian resistance groups aiming at harming Israeli soldiers operating in the area.
