28-year-old found dead in Ramallah

Picture
A 28-year-old was found dead in an apartment on Tuesday in Ramallah, security sources said.

The unidentified body was taken to a lab for autopsy, and an investigation will be opened in his death, said the sources who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Friends of the deceased told security officials they were trying to contact him for three days but failed. They called the police who broke into his house and found the body, the sources said.

Haneyya: The reshuffle in the ministry of labor is an administrative step

Picture
Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya said that the new portfolio reshuffle in the ministry of labor and social affairs is a purely administrative procedure aimed at enhancing its performance. Haneyya made his remarks during a parliamentary session held on Monday for the swearing-in of the new minister of labor Mohamed Al-Raqab.

"This reshuffle has taken place in order to meet the needs of the society and give the optimal impression on the government in light of the blockade imposed on us as we look forward to seeing better accomplishments for this important group of people, the workers," premier Haneyya stated.

The premier also highlighted the issue of the Palestinian reconciliation, stressing the need for respecting what had been agreed upon in Cairo and Doha

He appreciated the efforts being made by Qatar, Egypt and Turkey in this regard and noted that his government officially welcomed the initiative made by the Emir of Qatar about holding an Arab mini-summit in Cairo involving delegations from Hamas and Fatah factions.

The premier finally expressed his thanks to the Palestinian legislative council for its active supervisory role, affirming that all the ministries of his government are open before the parliament and its watchdog committees.

Qasem: Abbas is not serious about forming a unity government

Picture
Political analyst Abdul-Sattar Qasem played down the seriousness of de facto president Mahmoud Abbas to form a national unity government. Abbas said on Saturday that he would start consultations in order to form a national government according to the Doha declaration.

"If Abbas was concerned about the reconciliation and ending the division, he would form a committee to draft a national charter leading the restructuring of the liberation organization before forming a unity government," Qasem stated.

He expressed his belief that Abbas repeats such remarks to impress the public without having any honest intention to reconcile with Hamas.

Haneyya: The reconciliation files must be treated en bloc

Picture
Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya reiterated the need for ending the national division and dealing with the reconciliation agreement as a one package deal.

Haneyya made his remarks in a meeting on Saturday with a delegation from the democratic front for the liberation of Palestine (DFLP) led by deputy secretary-general of the front Fahed Suleiman.

The premier highlighted that all parties must respect what had been agreed upon and implanting it as a whole without selecting certain files.

Haneyya also called for necessarily working together to confront the occupation and focusing on the major national issues.

He discussed with the delegation the political developments in the region and the challenges being faced by the Arab nation.

During the meeting, Haneyya was briefed by the delegation on the humanitarian conditions of the Palestinian refugees in Syria.

Will the PA sell out to Israel for U.S. money?

By Khalid Amayreh

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry said recently the Obama administration would offer the Palestinian Authority (PA) billions of dollars for development.

It is widely believed that the American "gesture" is intended to bribe and cajole the PA leadership, e.g. Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, to return to futile peace talks with Israel, effectively succumbing to Israeli designs and ceding legitimate Palestinian rights.

A few weeks ago, Kerry was quoted as suggesting that the two-state solution strategy was coming to an end, apparently due to the intensive expansion of Jewish settlement. He said if the "parties" didn't reach a settlement within one or two years, then the peace process would be over.

The truth of the matter, however, is that the two-state solution vision had been decapitated by Israel a long time ago. This happened with full American knowledge.

The fact that the U.S. chose to say nothing and do nothing about it is an expression of American collusion and connivance with Israel rather than helplessness.

Now the U.S. wants to bully the weak Palestinian leadership to accept a scandalously deformed settlement that would be worse than surrendering to the Zionist entity.

This settlement would take the form of giving the Palestinians a "state-let" on 50% 0r 60% of the West Bank while Jerusalem, the contemplated capital of the Palestinian state, would remain under Israeli control.

In addition, the demilitarized state would have no real sovereignty as Israel would control its border crossings, air-space and telecommunications at least for many decades to come.

More importantly, the right of return for millions of refugees uprooted from their homes and villages at the hands of Zionist terrorist gangs, such as Stern, Irgun and the Haganah would be liquidate and consigned to oblivion.

True, the PA is undergoing a severe financial crisis stemming mainly from the false pretension that it is a "state" when the Israeli occupation army controls every street and neighborhood in the West Bank .

This crisis culminated lately with the resignation of Prime Minister Salam Fayyad who was used for more than six years as a canon fodder to carry out unpopular policies that many Palestinians say served Israeli goals rather than Palestinian interests.

Chairman Abbas doesn't tell the Palestinian public that he will give up the right of return or accept a solution that would compromise Palestinian rights and national dignity.

However, his political behavior and statements, especially to western and Israeli media outlets, do suggest that the man is willing to give up the bulk of Palestinian rights for the sake of a state, even a deformed state. At the top of these rights is, of course, the right of return for the Palestinian refugees.

The right of return is a national as well as personal individual right that no entity, elected or otherwise, has the right to cede or waiver under any circumstances.

A few months ago, Abbas told an Israeli TV channel that he had no right to return to Safad, his native hometown from which his family was expelled when Israel was created in 1948.

His remarks caused uproar among Palestinians at home and in the Diaspora, forcing him eventually to say that he was only speaking for himself.

Abbas, now 77 years, seems to be in hurry to reach a settlement for the century-old question of Palestine. This is probably what the American and Israeli intelligence circles are noticing and trying to formulate policies accordingly.

Well, the Palestinian cause which outlived many leaders, including Gamal Abdul Nasser, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia, Sheikh Ahmed Yasin and Yasser Arafat can likewise outlive Mahmoud Abbas.

Moreover, there is no Sura or verse in the Holy Quran which says that Palestine will be liberated during Abbas's life.

In the few years following the hapless Oslo accords, the Palestinian people were sold a lot of illusions, false hopes and lies. We were told that the West Bank and Gaza Strip would be transformed into the Singapore and Hong Kong of the Middle East. We know the rest of the story.

That's why it would be sad and lamentable that we Palestinians make the same deadly blunder once again. One may be forgiven for not learning from other people's mistake, or under certain circumstances, from his own mistakes as well. But it would be a real disaster when and if one learns, neither from his own mistakes nor from other people's mistake.

This is why we must avoid the American-Israeli bait, lest we bury our own graves with our own hands.

It is sad and lamentable that a considerable segment of the Palestinian masses are silent or tending to give the Ramallah leadership the benefit of the doubt. Do these people, probably out of gullibility, think that America's billion are a charity or an altruistic gift? Or are we to follow the Palestinian adage about the proverbial Eid Lamb "Feed me today and kill me tomorrow."?

DFLP officials meet with Ismail Haniyeh

Picture
A delegation from the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine met with Gaza premier Ismail Haniyeh on Saturday.

DFLP politburo member Salih Nasser told Ma'an that the party urged Haniyeh to implement reconciliation as soon as possible.

The political parties also discussed political developments and Palestinian refugees in Syria, in what Nasser described as a "positive" meeting.

The meeting was attended by Hamas spokesman spokesman Taher al-Nunu and other Hamas and DFLP officials.

Abbas to start consultations on creating unity government

Picture
President Mahmoud Abbas will start consultations on Saturday to create a national unity government, the official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

The move, according to Abbas, will be in line with the Doha declaration of principles and the timetable approved by the Palestinian leadership during meetings in Cairo on Feb. 8, 2013, dedicated to activating and developing the Palestine Liberation Organization.

He highlighted that participants in Cairo also agreed to set a date for presidential, parliamentary, and Palestinian National Council elections.

The PLO's Executive Committee reiterated the same principles in a recent meeting on April 18 in Ramallah, he added.

Abbas called upon all Palestinian factions and organizations to cooperate in order for him to issue two presidential decrees, one for the formation of a technocrat government, and one for setting a date for elections.

He noted that the Central Elections Commission has updated electoral registers both in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip.

Sami Abu Zuhri, spokesman for Hamas, told AFP that "any government must be formed in accordance with the reconciliation agreement and in consultation and agreement with Hamas."

"There has been no consultation with Hamas on this matter so far," Abu Zuhri said, warning against "any unilateral steps".

Hamas calls on Abbas to complete reconciliation according to agreements

Picture
Hamas called on Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, Fatah members and the Palestinian factions to start implementation of reconciliation according to what was agreed upon in Cairo Agreement and the Doha Declaration.

An official source in the movement stressed in a press statement on Saturday the need to accomplish the five reconciliation files (formation of the government - the elections - the Palestine Liberation Organization - the public freedoms - community reconciliation) as a single package, according to what was agreed upon.

The source emphasized the principle of consensus and national partnership among all Palestinian forces and factions, in deciding the mechanisms and dates to achieve the reconciliation files.

For his part; Hamas leader Dr. Salah Bardawil stressed that the announcement made by PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas to start consultations to form a national unity government, in implementation of Doha Declaration, has not been made after consultations.

Bardawil stressed that his movement will positively discuss any step towards the implementation of the reconciliation in an accurate and balanced manner.

He told PIC on Saturday: "We were surprised by the announcement of Abbas, as we have not been officially informed about it", and stressed that the reconciliation is a strategic objective and its full implementation in a balanced manner is important.

"It is not permissible to take any unilateral decisions without communications and compatibility." Bardawil said.

The Hamas leader asserted that if Abbas wants to contact Hamas in order to develop a roadmap for the implementation of the reconciliation agreement, his movement will discuss this matter in a positive way. "But if Abbas's announcement was only a unilateral step, the movement will not cover such decisions."

Abbas already announced that he had decided to begin consultations to form a government of national consensus.

Meanwhile, the PA's security apparatuses have continued their campaign of political arrests against members and supporters of Hamas movement in the occupied West Bank.

Elements of the Preventive Security Service arrested on Friday in Ramallah the correspondent of Quds Press agency in the city Khaldoun Mazloum, after encircling his family's house in the nearby village of Janiya.

The journalist's wife said that her husband was transferred to the headquarters of the Preventive Security in Beitounia.

Mazloum is a liberated prisoner from the israseli occupation jails and an ex-political detainee in PA's prisons.

The Preventive Security Service has also arrested the liberated captive and former political detainee Tarek Musleh from the town of Bidya in Salfit, and another young man from the city of Tulkarem.

In Nablus, the General Intelligence Service has transferred political prisoner Mohamed Janagrah to Jericho prison, four days after his arrest.

Janagra has been previously arrested more than five times by the PA security apparatuses. He is also a liberated prisoner who served about five years in Israeli jails.

Radwan: Qardawi to visit Gaza next month

Picture
The chairman of the international union for Muslim scholars Dr. Yousef Al-Qardawi is to visit the Gaza Strip on 8th May, Dr. Ismail Radwan, the Awkaf and religious affairs minister in Gaza, said. Radwan said after inaugurating a new mosque in Jabaliya, north of the Gaza Strip, on Friday that his ministry had finalized preparations for Qardawi’s visit.

Qardawi, who is to head a group of scholars during the visit, had promised Radwan during a meeting in Doha, Qatar recently that he would visit Gaza in the first week of May.

Radwan hoped that Muslim scholars and leaders would adopt urgent positions to defend occupied Jerusalem and the holy Aqsa mosque.

He warned that the Aqsa mosque was in real danger in light of the Israeli occupation’s criminal practices against it and the repeated storming of its plazas.

MP Abu Teir and Hamas spokesman slam PA for withdrawing UNESCO draft resolutions

Picture
Palestinian Jerusalemite MP Mohammed Abu Teir condemned a decision by the Palestinian Authority to withdraw five draft resolutions denouncing Israel’s practices in Jerusalem at UNESCO, following US intervention. The MP for the Change and Reform Bloc, affiliated with Hamas, told Quds Press on Thursday: "what the Palestinian Authority has done represents a new plot against al-Aqsa mosque."

He warned that the Authority is selling the holy sites and explicitly giving up the holy al-Aqsa Mosque, and stressed that the city of Jerusalem is an Islamic endowment and that no one has the right to compromise the rights of its people.

The Jerusalemite MP added: "What happened at UNESCO supports the vision of the occupation, which considers the city of Jerusalem the eternal capital of the Jewish people."

The Hebrew radio reported on Wednesday that the PLO, Jordan, and the Israeli government held an agreement, brokered by Washington, to withdraw resolutions condemning Israeli threats to Jerusalem's Palestinian character as well as Israeli activity in the West Bank.

The resolutions were to be presented to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, which admitted Palestine as a member in September.

The Israeli radio had broadcasted the news that also included that Israel in return would allow a delegation from UNESCO to tour a number of ancient sites in the Old City in Jerusalem in mid May.

For its part; Hamas movement has also condemned the decision of the Palestinian Authority to withdraw the UNESCO draft resolutions.

Hamas's official spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said in a press statement on Thursday: "This step is like a reward to the occupation for its crimes and violations.".

"It is a contribution in erasing the Arabic and Islamic identity of Jerusalem, and it encourages the occupation to continue its Judaization program," Barhoum added.

The Hamas official has also asserted that no one had the right to compromise the rights of the Palestinian people.

He called on all the Palestinian people, factions and leaders, all the Arab and Islamic countries, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League, to confront the Israeli violations against Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to prevent any party from saving Israel from the International, national and legal prosecutions for its crimes.

Gov’t: Covering up occupation’s practices in Jerusalem complicity

Picture
The Palestinian government in Gaza has warned of covering up for the Israeli occupation’s crimes in Jerusalem, charging those involved in such practice as accomplices in those crimes. Justice minister in Gaza Dr. Attala Abulsabh, commenting on the Hebrew radio report that the PLO, Jordan, and the Israeli government had agreed on withdrawing resolutions denouncing Israel’s practices in Jerusalem at UNESCO, as “very serious if proven to be correct”.

“Any cover up for the Zionist entity that is changing the Arab feature of Jerusalem and wiping out its genuine identity, is actual participation in the crime and constitutes a betrayal for the entire (Muslim) Nation,” the minister added.

Abulsabh denounced the American blatant pressures on the international organizations including UNESCO for accepting Palestine as a member.

The Hebrew radio had broadcasted the news that also included that Israel in return would allow a delegation from UNESCO to tour a number of ancient sites in the Old City in Jerusalem in mid May.
