The family of the Palestinian political prisoner Abdulhalim Mohamed Ghanam appealed to political leaders, activists and media outlets to work on unshackling their sick son from the Palestinian Authority lock ups, where he has been held for 22 days with neither charge nor interrogation.
The appeal was formulated in a letter dispatched by the family of prisoner Ghanam to such senior Hamas figures as Dr Musa Abu Marzouk and Ezzet Al-Resheq along with other political leaders and a number of news agencies, including the PIC, the Anadolu and al-Aqsa TV Channel.
“Since you are watching over and working on the implementation of national reconciliation, we have to remind you again and again of the cause of political detainees incarcerated in the PA jails without any charge,” the letter read.
The family voiced hope that Palestinian officials and activists would seriously work on restoring their son’s freedom before the advent of Muslims’ Holy Ramadan month.
Prisoner Ghanam has been diagnosed with inflammatory bowel and had spent over seven years in the Israeli occupation jails.

Palestinian Authority (PA) preventive forces summoned two minors of Zalloum family in Ramallah to be questioned in the PA’s headquarters.
Musab Zalloum, brother of one of the minors and cousin of the other, told the PIC reporter that “the family was shocked when a PA patrol came to their house on Thursday and handed a summons for his 14-year-old brother and for his 15-year-old cousin to attend an interview at 10 a.m. on Saturday.”
He pointed out that the family asked the PA forces about the reasons of summoning both minors, but they refused to respond. He added that the two of them are still detained at the moment.

The Palestinian Authority (PA) intelligence forces on Sunday evening raided the house of prisoner Fathi al-Khasib, a senior leader of al-Qassam Brigades of Hamas, in Qaffin town, northeast of Tulkarem city, in an attempt to arrest his son Mujahed.
Family sources told the Palestinian Information Center (PIC) that 15 armed men and officers from the PA intelligence stormed the house of Khatib and thoroughly searched it.
They added that the raid lasted for about one hour, during which the intelligence men confiscated two Hamas flags and posters for resistance fighters from al-Qassam Brigades and told the family that its son were wanted by their office.
The family deplored the raid as insulting to the sacrifices made by Fathi al-Khasib for Palestine, stressing that the families of martyrs and prisoners must be honored and not assaulted.

Arab Organization for Human Rights in the UK (AOHR UK) expressed in a statement issued Thursday its deep concern over PA continued and escalated political arrests in West Bank following the Hamas-affiliated student group’s victory in Birzeit’s student council election on April 22.
The London-based organization documented the summons of dozens of Palestinians and the arrest of 90 others including 20 University students apparently for their affiliation with Hamas or political criticism. Some of them have been subjected to torture and ill-treatment.
On May 14, 2015, Palestinian security officers arrested Ubada Shadid, a student representative of a Hamas-affiliated student group at Al-Najeh University.
Three other minors were detained in Dura town in al-Khalil during clashes erupted in the town after PA Preventive forces tired to arrest a local resident for his political affiliation on May, 15, 2015.
The journalist Mohamed Awad is still held in PA jails for his political criticism since May 5, where he was recently transferred to Jericho prison amid very bad detention conditions. His family strongly denied any criminal charges against their son, affirming that he was detained for his political affiliation.
The AOHR UK pointed out that PA political arrests are carried out overnight after violently storming and brutally searching the detainees’ homes, causing a state of panic among the residents in a similar action to the Israeli raid and arrest campaigns.
The human rights organization called on Palestinian unity government to put an end to the PA security forces' flagrant violations to Geneva Convention 1949.
In April 2014, Palestine acceded to core international human rights conventions, including the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, that oblige the government to respect, protect, and fulfill the rights to freedom of expression and assembly, and to investigate and punish abuses by security forces.
States that fund and train Palestinian security forces, including the United States, should use their influence to ensure that members of Palestinian security forces respect the human rights of the people they are meant to serve, according to the statement.

Local sources told the PIC reporter that the IOF soldiers in four military vehicles raided four districts in the city, roamed the streets and questioned a number of Palestinian youths. No arrests were carried out.
The PA security forces, however, retreated to its headquarters and nearby streets as they are very active in chasing Palestinians as well, the sources revealed.

80 Palestinian citizens are currently held in PA jails over their political affiliation, the Committee of Political Detainees’ Families said in a new update issued on Wednesday.
The political prisoners are distributed geographically as follows: 18 detainees from al-Khalil, 17 detainees from Nablus; Ramallah, 9 detainees; Bethlehem, 3 detainees; occupied Jerusalem, 3 detaines; Salfit, one detainee; Tubas, 7 detainees; and 9 detainee from Tulkarem and Qalqilia each.
The political detainees also include released prisoners who spent long years behind bars in Israeli jails, writers and journalists, youth activists, and university students.
According to the report, an activist in the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine-PFLP has been held in PA jails since April 2009, while three members of the Islamic Jihad movement have been detained since March 2010.
Seven members of Hamas movement have been jailed in PA prisons for more than five years, the report added.
The PA Preventive Security and General Intelligence have recently waged a campaign of arrests in several provinces in the West Bank where dozens of Palestinians, most of them are affiliated to Jihad movement have been imprisoned.
Commenting on the issue, spokesperson of the security forces Adnan Dmeiri denied the fact that the recent wave of PA arrests carried any political dimensions.

A dozen Palestinian Authority (PA) security agents on Tuesday raided the offices of al-Khalil Satellite TV (or Fadaiyat al Khalil) in the town of Dura and handed its owner Walid Amayreh a written order to close it down.
The force also confiscated computers and other electronic appliances and equipment worth thousands of dollars.
The newly-launched Hebron Satellite station transmits from London and is virtually apolitical.
Walid Amayreh, brother of Palestinian journalist Khalid Amayreh, said the draconian measure was totally justified.
"These people don't seem to have anything to do. What they did this morning is in total violation of the rule of law."
Roqaya Amayreh, Walid's young daughter, called the raiders “very much like gangsters and thieves."
"Instead of fighting crime and protecting Palestinian citizens from the unceasing terror and violence of the settlers, they gang up on us as if we were hard criminals."
A journalist working at the outlet, who wouldn't want his name mentioned, said the raid was another fresh reminder that that press freedom and the PA were an oxymoron.
"It is wishful thinking even to dream of press freedom under the Palestinian Authority. Press freedom and freedom of expression don't seem to exist in the PA lexicon."
It is not certain if the Preventive Security apparatus was acting on instructions from the Israelis.
Israeli officials have repeatedly said that they consider the PA security agency as "security agents working on Israel's behalf."
Interestingly, the targeted TV outlet continued to operate as the PA is powerless to stop it, given the fact that it transmits from London.
The PA routinely detains journalists it accuses of voicing or publishing non-conformist views.
The PA is particularly sensitive to any connections between media outlets and its arch political and ideological foe, the Hamas Islamic movement. The al-Khalil Satellite TV is fiercely independent and has no connections with any political groups.

A senior Israeli officer commended the Palestinian Authority's security services' efforts to facilitate and secure Jewish settler visits to Joseph's Tomb in the city of Nablus, north of the West Bank.
Israel's Channel 7 quoted on its website the operations officer in the Judea and Samaria Brigade, Eyal Sabbagh, as saying: "The Palestinian security forces are cooperating with the Israeli army and protect Joseph's Tomb in Nablus around the clock and the visits are implemented with previous cooperation with them."
According to Sabbage, the most recent visit to Joseph's Tomb on Friday took place after several months of mutual coordination with the Palestinian Authority security services. The event was attended by 4,000 settlers who came to perform religious rituals in celebration of the Jewish holiday of Sefirat HaOmer. They were accompanied by Central Command Chief, Roni Numa, and army leaders in the West Bank.
The Israeli officer said in remarks published yesterday: "Our mission is to implement the political decision on Joseph's Tomb and to enable people to access to this holy place and pray in it."
"There are many preparations, starting with travel arrangements from all regions to security companies, guards from the army and police, and intelligence agencies which examine things before the civilians enter the place," he added.

The Palestinian political detainee Majdi Mohamed Darwish al-Qutb, 37, was rushed to hospital after his health status has sharply gone down at the Palestinian Authority lock-ups.
A PIC correspondent quoted informed sources as stating that sick prisoner Majdi al-Qutb, 37, was hospitalized in Nablus’ Rafidia hospital due to a sharp deterioration in his physical condition.
Prisoner Majdi was diagnosed with cardiovascular disorders and a tachycardia, just four days after he was detained by the PA Preventive Forces in Nablus.
Sources close to the detainee’s family said “Majdi’s exacerbated physical status is a proof of the psycho-physical torture he has been made to endure at the PA’s Juneid penitentiary.”
The prisoner’s family held the PA primarily responsible for the repercussions of its arbitrary detention and tough castigation of their son.
Majdi was captured by the PA forces after the latter broke into his family home in Nablus at 2 a.m. on Friday. Shortly afterwards, the PA devices extended his remand for 15 days.

Israeli radio claimed Friday morning that PA security forces informed Israeli Intelligence Services (Shin bet) of the arrest an armed cell affiliated to Hamas movement for planning to carry out attacks against Israeli targets.
The Israeli radio quoted unnamed Palestinian source as saying that PA forces arrested this week an armed cell consisting of five members affiliated to Hamas movement.
The detainees were arrested after receiving information of their handling with home-made explosives in an apartment in al-Khalil, the sources added.
Since the beginning of the year, PA forces arrested several groups affiliated to Hamas movement in al-Khalil, Qalailia, Nablus, and Jenin.
No PA statement has been issued regarding the Israeli claims.

Security forces from the Palestinian Authority intelligence apparatus at dawn Wednesday raided a number of homes belonging to students from the Islamic bloc at Polytechnic university in al-Khalil and kidnapped some of them.
According to the Facebook page of Hudaifah Abu Sarhan, head of the student council at the university, the PA intelligence forces stormed at dawn the house of student Obadah al-Hashlamoun, member of the student congress in al-Khalil, and arrested him.
The intelligence also kidnapped the father of another student named Alaa al-Haroub in order to pressure him to turn himself in after not finding him at home.
A student identified as Hatem al-Junaidi was also kidnapped from his home in al-Khalil, while another one was phoned and asked to turn himself in.
Abu Sarhan has appealed to the university presidency to assume its responsibilities towards its students and protect them.
The Islamic bloc, Hamas's student wing, and the Fatah-affiliated student bloc had won the same number of seats in the council election at Polytechnic university, but the former was eligible to form the council after entering into an alliance with the Palestinian left, which won one seat.
