On Monday, four Palestinian medics, and despite being repeatedly assaulted and dragged by the Israeli soldiers, managed to rescue wounded Palestinians after the soldiers resorted to the excessive use of force against protesters on the main road leading to the military court, north of al-Biereh city, in central West Bank.
The four medics were filmed by various media agencies, performing their humanitarian duty, despite the military violations against them. They have been identified as Nisreen Amira, Ayman Qirret, Atiya Dweik and Mohammad Omar; they managed to provide the urgently needed treatment to wounded Palestinians, and even managed to take them away to hospitals despite the army’s attempts to abduct them. |
It all started when a young man was shot after the soldiers resorted to the excessive use against the Palestinian protesters and tried to remove them from the area.
The soldiers then injured the wounded young man’s friend, while was trying to help him.
The four volunteer medics rushed to the wounded Palestinians’ aid, but the soldiers assaulted them by first firing live rounds above their heads, then used pepper-spray against them, in addition to physically attacking them, but they remained determined to perform their duty, and managed to evacuate the two wounded Palestinians.
After ongoing assaults by the soldiers, three of the medics managed to rush one of the wounded Palestinian to a nearby ambulance, while Nisreen Amira, the 19 years of age volunteer medic, stayed behind with the second wounded Palestinian, trying to protect him and provided him with the needed aid, while the soldiers continued to strike her and point their guns at her.
One of the soldiers tried to drag the wounded Palestinian from his arm, but Nisreen protected him, and refused to allow the soldiers to abduct him, and insisted on providing him with the medical aid he urgently needs.
By then, the three other medics returned to the area, and despite suffering the effects of tear gas and pepper-spray, they managed to help Nisreen and evacuated the wounded young man to a hospital.
Palestinian journalists, who were also assaulted and some injured by the soldiers, documented the unfolding events, and filmed Nisreen, while struggling with the heavily armed soldiers, just to be able to perform her humanitarian and medical dirty.
After the assault, and the injuries she suffered, Nisreen smiled and placed the gas mask on her face, and said, “This is the third time I get injured by the soldiers, but I will continue to perform my duty; their attacks and violations will never deter us from this humanitarian task.”
During the Israeli army attack, the soldiers injured seventeen Palestinians, including eight who were shot with live fire, and assaulted many journalists. Another video

Palestinian Journalists Forum on Saturday called on the High Commissioner for Human Rights and international press institutions to open an investigation into Israeli military orders to target Palestinian journalists.
The Forum in a statement asked the Palestinian Authority and human rights organizations to file a lawsuit against those responsible at the International Criminal Court and other courts that allow the prosecution of Israeli war criminals.
Based on a report published by Haaretz newspaper on Friday, Israeli soldiers, acting on their commanders' orders, beat five Palestinian journalists with batons and arrested them during a demonstration in Kafr Qaddum village east of Qalqilya.
An Israeli soldier later admitted under questioning that orders were to arrest anyone who violated the military closure order, including journalists, and to beat anyone who resisted arrest.
On the same day when the report was published, journalist Esam al-Rimawi was injured after being deliberately hit with a tear gas canister by Israeli soldiers during his coverage of an anti-settlement demonstration in Bil'in village west of Ramallah.
Recent statistics revealed that the Israeli occupation forces committed more than 50 violations against Palestinian journalists during February 2018. Part of these attacks targeted them during their coverage of peaceful protests or confrontations in the West Bank and the eastern Gaza Strip.

Facebook administration shut down two Palestinian pages: the committee of families of political captives in the West Bank, which is concerned with following up the news of Palestinian detainees in Palestinian Authority (PA) jails, and the official page of al-Resalah media institution.
The prisoners’ families committee said, in a statement, that their page was specialized in documenting the violations practiced by the PA security forces against Palestinians in the West Bank. A new page has been created under the theme “Return Political Detainees in the West Bank”, the statement pointed out.
As for al-Resalah administration, they condemned the unfair Facebook procedure against their page and affirmed that they have the right to cover the crimes of the Israeli occupation and pledged to continue their work despite harassment.
According to the Palestinian Media Assembly, Facebook administration has closed 60 Palestinian accounts and blocked over 100 others for sharing photos and posts about Palestinian martyrs since the beginning of the year.
In 2017, over 200 Palestinian accounts and pages were deleted for the same reason, the Palestinian Media Assembly pointed out.

The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) said that the Israeli occupation authority and its forces had committed 28 different violations against media freedoms in Palestine last January.
Compared to the months that preceded December 2017, Israel’s violations against media freedom have remained at high rates, the center said in a report.
Those violations included physical assaults on journalists in different areas of Jerusalem and the West Bank, detention of journalists and restrictions on their work.
117 Israeli Violations of Palestinian Media Freedoms since December: MADA
The Palestinian Center for Development and Media Freedoms (MADA) released a report on Saturday, saying that between December 2017 and the end of January 2018, the group recorded 117 violations against Palestinian media freedoms, at the hands of Israeli forces.
MADA reported, according to Ma’an, that there was a decrease in violations against media freedoms was recorded in January compared to December 2017, during which 89 violations by Israeli forces were reported against journalists (84 of which were assaults) during their coverage of protests against US President Donald Trump’s recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.
In January, MADA recorded a total of 31 violations against media freedoms in Palestine, mostly by Israel, as 28 violations were committed by Israeli forces while three violations were committed by Palestinian forces.
Despite recording a decrease between December 2017 and January 2018, MADA said that violations for January were high compared to January 2017.
In January 2018, out of the 28 violations committed by Israeli forces, “one of the main violations reported was assaulting Reuters’ photojournalist in Jerusalem with a baton on the head, causing a huge wound and a concussion,” MADA said.
“Israeli forces also continued their policy of preventing coverage of incidents by holding journalists and assaulting them,” the group added.
Meanwhile, three violations were committed by Palestinian officials against journalists — one in the occupied West Bank and two in the Gaza Strip.
Palestinian journalists often describe their work as a form of “resistance,” as they believe their stories show the world the devastating effects of Israel’s policies on Palestinians and provide Palestinians an outlet for their voices in a media climate that is often overshadowed by pro-Israeli narratives.
