The government media office in Gaza said that the Israeli occupation forces deliberately targeted journalists during the recent protests held in Gaza in an attempt to prevent them from covering what was really happening.
In a statement on Saturday, the media office accused Israeli forces of firing live ammunition and tear gas grenades directly at journalists who were covering the border protests in Gaza on Friday and Saturday despite the clear and special signs referring to their job they were holding and their presence in spots relatively away from the participants in the protests.
The official also accused Israel of launching jamming attacks on telecommunication networks and media satellite communication vehicles during the protests, and hacking online pages and accounts belonging to journalists, especially those who were assigned to cover the recent events.
It stressed that such attacks on journalists were a new crime in Israel’s criminal record against freedoms of opinion and expression.
“It is not surprising to see those who kill unarmed civilians try to conceal their crime by attacking journalists who witness the event and relay it to the public opinion,” the office stated.
It called for forming an international inquiry commission to probe Israel’s growing violations and assaults on media crews in Palestine.

Cameraman Mohammad Enaya
Israeli soldiers attacked, Friday, the weekly procession in Kufur Qaddoum town, east of Qalqilia in the northern part of the occupied West Bank, and injured five Palestinians, including a child and a cameraman working for Palestine TV.
Morad Eshteiwi, the media coordinator of the Popular Committee against the Annexation Wall and Colonies in Kufur Qaddoum, said the soldiers resorted to the excessive use of force and fired dozens of rubber-coated steel bullets, gas bombs and concussion grenades.
He added that the army injured five young men, including Palestinian TV cameraman Mohammad Enaya, and a child.
Two of the wounded Palestinians were rushed to Darwish Nazzal hospital, in Qalqilia, and the rest received treatment by local medics.
Furthermore, the soldiers invaded and ransacked many homes, and attacked several Palestinians.
Eshteiwi stated that the Palestinians will continue to protest the ongoing illegal Israeli occupation, its colonies and Annexation Wall, and will fight for their legitimate rights, until liberation and independence, and establishing a sovereign Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
He added that the Palestinians will not surrender to this occupation, and will continue to resist it, and reject the illegal US recognition of occupied Jerusalem as the unified capital of Israeli, in direct violation of International Law and various United Nations and Security Council resolutions.
The Palestinians, accompanied by international peace activists, have been holding weekly processions against the illegal Israeli colonies and the Annexation Wall, and demanding the army to reopen the town’s main road, which was blockaded fifteen years ago, to enable easy access for colonialist settlers driving to and from Kedumim illegal colony, which was built on private Palestinian lands.
Israeli Soldiers Abduct A Palestinian Journalist
Israeli soldiers stationed at the al-Karama Border Terminal between Jordan and Palestine abducted, on Thursday, a Palestinian journalist working for Palestine TV, while he was heading back home after receiving a journalism award in Egypt.
The journalist, Bakr Abdul-Haq, was returning to Palestine from Cairo, after receiving a journalism award for his reports and accomplishments.
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate strongly denounced the abduction of Abdul-Haq, who was moved to the al-Maskobiyya interrogation facility, in occupied Jerusalem, without any explanation, or charges.
It added that Israel is currently holding captive thirty journalists, in direct violation of International Law and various international and humanitarian resolutions.
The Syndicate described the abduction and imprisonment of Abdul-Haq as an act of Israeli piracy against Palestinian journalists, and part of “a series of illegal measures meant to terrorize the journalists in Palestine, and their people.”
His family was not informed about his abduction, and started looking for him, and asking various legal and human rights groups, to later find out that he was abducted by Israel at the border terminal.
Prior to returning to Palestine, the journalist wrote a post on his Facebook page stating that he received the award in Cairo, and expressing his gratitude and pleasure in meeting many dedicated professional journalists from several parts of the Arab world.
“This award is dedicated to my homeland, Palestine, our just cause and struggle. I am honored to represent Palestine, and to send its message of steadfastness to the world,” he said, “We report on the suffering of Palestine, and its people, and their legitimate hopes and aspirations for liberation and independence.”
