Jordanian jailed for killing Israelis on hunger strike
Picture

A Jordanian soldier serving a life sentence for murdering Israeli schoolgirls in 1997 is on a hunger strike to demand his release following the killing of a Jordanian judge by Israeli soldiers, his son said Saturday.

"My father started a hunger strike on Friday. He said he demands the government release him from jail after the Israelis killed Jordanian judge Raed Zeiter," Ahmad Dakamseh's son Seif told AFP.

"He is also refusing to take medicine for his high blood pressure and diabetes."

Zeiter was shot dead earlier this week by Israeli forces at the Allenby Bridge border crossing. Witnesses said that Israeli soldiers had scuffled with Zeiter after he delayed in returning to his bus, and an Israeli soldier shot him three times in the chest after Zeiter pushed him.

Israel, however, said that Zeiter had attacked the soldiers and tried to steal one of their weapons. It expressed regret over the shooting but stopped short of apologizing.

The killing set off a diplomatic row between the two countries, and on Friday around 1,000 protesters demonstrated near the Israeli embassy in Amman, demanding the scrapping of the 1994 peace treaty.

On Wednesday, Jordanian MPs demanded the government free Dakamseh, expel the Israeli envoy in Amman and recall the Jordanian ambassador in Israel.

They gave the government until Tuesday to meet their demands, failing which they threatened a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Abdullah Nsur, who has said Israel is "completely responsible" for the "hideous" shooting and demanded an apology.

"My father said he will not end his hunger strike until the government meets the demands of parliament as well as the public concerning the martyrdom of judge Zeiter," Seif Dakamseh said.

"He told us that his freedom will come from the will of people and not the government."

Ahmad Dakamseh opened fire on a group of Israeli schoolgirls as they visited Baqura, a scenic peninsula on the Jordan River near the Israeli border.

He killed seven of the girls and wounded five more, as well as a teacher, and was sentenced to life in prison.

The motives of Dakamseh, who was 30 at the time and a married father of three, were never clear.

King Hussein cut short a visit to Europe and rushed home to condemn the attack. He later traveled to Israel to offer his condolences to the families of the murdered schoolgirls. Jordan also paid compensation.

Jordan and Egypt are the only two Arab countries to have made peace with Israel.

Arabs must protest Israeli crimes even against the wishes of their regimes
Picture
By Khalid Amayreh

Thousands of Jordanians and Palestinians continued to protest last week's murderous killing by Israel of a Jordanian judge while traveling to the West Bank through the Allenby Bridge crossing.

Eyewitnesses described the killing of Ra'ed Ze'ieter, 38, as "premeditated and cold-blooded murder."

For its part, Israel tried to concoct an entirely different account of the incident to justify the heinous murder, claiming that the soldier who killed Ze'ieter acted in self-defense.

However, it seems that the Israeli government failed to cover the sun with a sieve, as the Arab proverb goes.

The Israeli government made a half-hearted apology to the Jordanian government, insisting, however there were "extenuating circumstances" justifying the murder.

The truth of the matter, however, is that the criminal killer did what he did knowingly and deliberately. He knew what he was doing. He wanted to spill Palestinian blood, pure and simple.

Israeli soldiers, unlike all other soldiers under the sun, are indoctrinated with an inherently racist ideology, derived from the Talmud, whereby the life of every non-Jew has no sanctity.

I am not voicing anti-Semitic views when I state the obvious. There are Talmudic passages that bluntly and brashly deny the mere humanity of non-Jews. The much-celebrated late Rabbi of Shas Ovadia Yosef said, without patting an eyelash, that non-Jews were beasts of burden whom the Almighty created solely to serve Jews.

Numerous other rabbis, with hundreds of thousands of followers, issued religious edicts based on the Talmud, encouraging Israeli soldiers to kill innocent Arabs. See the video, for example.

Hence, the murderous killing of Ze'ieter must be viewed as the ultimate product or byproduct of this Nazi-like indoctrination.

I do not claim that all Jews or even all Israeli Jews subscribe to this murderous and disgusting ideology. However, the truth must be proclaimed irrespective of the Golem of anti-Semitism which is often manipulated to justify or extenuate Israeli crimes.

No choice

The continuing protests in Jordan over the murder of the young judge are the very least Arabs could do to extricate respect from insolent supremacist Jews.

If we don't protest, next time they will murder ten judges. We have been living close to 50 years under the sinister Israeli occupation. We know them too well.

More to the point, Arab masses must not rely on their respective governments to put up a meaningful stance that would deter Israeli provocations.

We all know that these governments are too weak to do this. In addition, they lack real democratic legitimacy and therefore don't feel they are answerable to the people.

In fact, the raison d'être of many regimes in the Arab world is effectively to suppress and even torment their people on Israel's behalf.

Hence, there is no use waiting for governments to force Israel to show respect for the life and dignity of our people.

In the final analysis, our lives, let alone our dignity, don't constitute a pressing priority for these regimes. In fact, the regimes themselves are the biggest violators of our dignity and lives.

This is why the masses must do what it takes to force our governments to be more "pro-active" in doing their job, namely protecting their own citizens.

And any government or regime failing to carry out its responsibility toward its citizens must be forced to resign. The regimes must therefore understand that the only legitimacy they have is the legitimacy that comes from the people's acceptance.

This is the standard practice all over the civilized world, and we are not children of a lesser God.

I am against any random acts of violence targeting innocent Jews. Such acts undermine our just causes and often boomerang on us. However, our Arab governments must make it abundantly clear to Israel that the spilling of an Arab's blood by Jews makes the spilling of a Jew's blood by Arabs inevitable.

Unfortunately, Israel's insolence and arrogance of power are unlikely to change the collective racist mindset of the Israeli state. We all know the inherently racist mentality of the Israeli justice system where an Arab is viewed as guilty even if proven innocent whereas a Jew is viewed as innocent even if proven guilty.

That is why it is highly unlikely that the criminal soldier who killed Ze'ieter will be punished or even rebuked.

The more likely treatment he will receive is that he will be cheered, awarded and promoted.

But the proverbial ball is none the less in our court, not Israel's. It is we, not our failed governments, who decide whether the world, along with Israel and her guardian-ally, the United States, will treat us with respect.

After all, those who don't respect themselves will not be respected as Zuheir Ibn Abi Sulma, the renowned Arab poet, said 1450 years ago.  (waman la yokarrim nafsaho la yokarrami).

A Gaza official said the number of the Gaza Palestinians killed by Israel since early 2014 as a result of military escalation increased to 18. Ashraf al-Qidra, the spokesman for Ministry of Health, said Friday in a facebook post that “the number of martyrs has risen to 18, with Beit Hanon town resident Aisha al-Hamdin dying of her wounds sustained on Thursday evening,”

Qidra pointed out that the 110 Gazans were injured during the said period, mostly by live ammunition and airstrikes over several areas of the Strip.

The majority of the casualties affected by the Israeli violence were in residential districts at the time of shelling or shooting, he added.

Hundreds call for expulsion of Israeli ambassador in Amman
Hundreds of Jordanians demonstrated after Friday prayers near the Israeli embassy in the Jordanian capital of Amman, condemning the killing of a Palestinian-Jordanian man by Israeli soldiers earlier in the week.

Jordanian newspaper Al-Ghad reported that the demonstrations were organized by leftist, Islamist, nationalist, and youth parties, and protesters called for the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador and the cancellation of the peace treaty between Jordan and Israel, which was signed in 1994.

The killing of Palestinian-Jordanian judge Raed Zeiter by Israeli soldiers at the Allenby Bridge crossing on Monday came as part of a wave of killings of seven Palestinians by Israeli forces over a period of about 24-hours earlier this week.
The shooting sparked the fury of both Jordan and the Palestinians, with protesters in Amman immediately following the killing demanding the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador and the abrogation of the two countries' 1994 peace treaty.

The statement said Israel had shared the results of a preliminary inquiry with Amman, and had "agreed to a Jordanian request to establish a joint Israeli-Jordanian team to complete the investigation."

A preliminary investigation by the army published on Tuesday claimed that Zeiter had repeatedly attacked soldiers prompting troops to open shoot him dead.

Witness at the scene Mohammad Zayd, however, disputed the Israeli army's claims, and said that an Israeli soldier had pushed Zeiter when he delayed in returning to the bus he was traveling on after it was stopped for inspection.

When Zeiter fought back, the soldier shot him three times in the chest, Zayd added.

Zeiter was buried in his home city of Nablus in the northern West Bank earlier on Tuesday, with Jordan calling for the Israeli soldiers who shot him to be punished.

Eyewitnesses Revoke Israeli Story About Killing of the two Palestinians Zuaiter and Darweesh
Picture
by Maher Awawdeh/Ministry of Information

As Usual, Israeli Occupation Government keep telling lies about its crime in killing two Palestinian young People, to justify the killing mentality that it has.

"Saji Sayel Darwesh" is a young Palestinian (18 years old), he is a graduate program student at Birzait University, was killed by Israeli soldiers on March, 10th,2014 while he was standing in front of his family house in " Beteen Village", East of Ramallah where the Israeli settlement " Gevat Assaf" is located .

Also another Palestinian Young "Raed Zaiter" 38 Years Old was shot by Israeli soldiers on Monday, March,10th,2014 while he was crossing (AL Karamah border crossing) coming from Jordan- Amman to Palestine. Zaiter, a Palestinian carrying Jordanian nationality, works as a judge at the Jordanian Magistrate Court.

Eyewitness Affidavits:

The Judge "Raed Zuaiter"

One witness said that one of the Israeli soldiers on AL Karamah crossing border pushed the Judge Zuater away without any reason, just to force him into getting on the bus, after that Zuater fell down on the floor, then stood up and started yelling at the solder, at the same time another soldier pushed him again, but Judge Zuaiter again stood up and tried to defend himself, but the Israeli bullets were faster than him, 3 bullets landed in his chest after an Israeli soldier shoot him; after that Israeli soldiers left him bleeding for more than 30 minutes, they didn't allow any of the passengers, all of whom were Palestinians, to assist the bleeding victim.

The victim Saji Darweesh"

Most of "Beteen Village" citizens said that the victim "Saji" was killed by an Israeli settler; since the Israeli "Givat Assaf Settlement" is close to the victim's family house and that refutes what Israeli solders claimed before alleging that he was killed by an Israeli soldier.

Eye witnesses said that the "Saji" was looking after his horse in a field beside his home, where, suddenly there was an Israeli settler who was driving; he stopped his car and got off and shot "Saji" before leaving the scene. Israeli soldiers who were deployed in the town after the crime, moved "Saji's body to a point close to the Assaf Settlement , they claimed that he was throwing stones at the settlement and for that they killed him.

Jordan MPs demand government free killer of Israeli girls
Picture
Jordanian soldier Ahmad Dakamseh, who shot dead seven Israeli schoolgirls, is seen behind bars at a military court in Amman on May 27, 1997.

The lower house of Jordan's parliament, incensed over the shooting death of a Jordanian judge by Israeli soldiers, demanded Wednesday that the government free a soldier who murdered Israeli schoolgirls in 1997.

In a non-binding resolution, all 150 members of the lower house said "we demand that the government release Jordanian soldier Ahmad Dakamseh from jail."

Dakamseh had opened fire on a group of Israeli schoolgirls as they visited Baqura, a scenic peninsula on the Jordan River near the Israeli border.

He killed seven of the girls and wounded five more, as well as a teacher, and was sentenced to life in prison.

"We also demand that the government expel the Israeli ambassador in Amman and recall the Jordanian ambassador in Israel in response to the killing of Jordanian judge Raed Zeiter," the resolution said.

It gave the government until Tuesday to meet its demands, failing which it threatened a no-confidence vote against Prime Minister Abdullah Nsur.

The shooting Monday set off a diplomatic row between Israel and Amman, with Nsur saying Israel is "completely responsible" and demanding an apology for the "hideous" shooting.

Israel has expressed regret for the killing, but stopped short of apologizing to Jordan, which is the only Arab country besides Egypt to have made peace with the Jewish state.

The lower house said that "what happened proved that Israel is a racist country that does not want peace."

The Israeli army said Zeiter, 38, had charged at the soldiers with a metal pole while shouting "Allahu Akbar" (God is greatest), prompting them to fire at his legs.

"The suspect then began to strangle a soldier and the force resorted to using live fire once again," killing the man, the army said.

Jordan's opposition Islamists, youth groups and others have said they plan to hold a demonstration in central Amman to protest Zeiter's killing.

PLO, PA denounce 'extrajudicial' Israeli killings
Picture
Mourners bury the body of Raed Alaa Addin Zieter, 38, on Tuesday, after he was shot dead by Israeli forces at the Allenby Bridge on Monday.

The Palestinian Liberation Organization and the Palestinian Authority condemned the killing of six Palestinians by Israel in recent days, warning that the violence undermines the ongoing peace negotiations.

PLO Executive Committee Member Dr. Hanan Ashrawi strongly condemned the killing of six Palestinians in a twenty-four hour period ending Tuesday, accusing Israel of creating "a culture of violence" and being "bent on demonstrating that it is a rogue state with its repeated war crimes against the Palestinian people and sense of exceptionalism and impunity."

"The Israeli government is undermining the credibility of the 'peace' negotiations which have become a cover for Israel to buy the time needed to change facts on the ground while blatantly provoking the Palestinian leadership to withdraw from the talks," she said in a statement.

Ashrawi also called on the international community to take "immediate action" by adopting "punitive" measures in order to hold Israel accountable for the "extrajudicial killing of Palestinian civilians."

"Such incessant and unaddressed crimes will plunge the entire region into great instability and violence," she added.

The PA's presidential spokesperson called the killings a "serious provocation" that would "ruin the already faltering peace process," calling upon the US and the International Quarter to take action to save the situation.

The statements come after Israeli forces killed six Palestinians on Monday and Tuesday, including Saji Darwish, 18, Raed Alaa Addin Zieter, 38, and Fedaa Mohyi Al Deen Majadlah, 23, in shootings in the West Bank as well as Ismail Abu Judah, 23, Shahir Abu Shanab, 24, and Abd al-Shafi Muammar, 33, in an airstrike on the Gaza Strip.

The three killed in the West Bank were civilians shot dead by Israeli forces in separate incidents.

The three killed in the Gaza Strip, meanwhile, were militants associated with the military wing of the Islamic Jihad movement who were attempting to stop an Israel incursion into the Gaza Strip, according to the movement.

Patient dies due to continued Gaza siege
Picture
Asia Sharateha 27

The Palestinian sick woman Asia Sharateha, 27, died after Israeli authorities prevented her access to the West Bank via Beit Hanoun (Erez) checkpoint to receive treatment due to her health deterioration. Mizan Center for Human Rights, in a statement issued Tuesday, confirmed the martyrdom of Asia Mohammed Sharateha, 27, on Monday after her health condition deteriorated.

Sharateha was a resident of Izbet Abed Rabbo in Jabaliya town in northern Gaza. According to Mizan’s field investigations, she suffered from a heart condition and needed an urgent surgery that cannot be done in Gaza.

However, the Israeli authorities did not give her access permission to cross to the West Bank to undergo the surgery. She had applied for permission with the Israeli authorities in October 2013 to go to a hospital in the West Bank via Erez crossing.

According to Mizan's statement, the Israeli authorities insisted that Asia attends an interview with the Israeli security authorities at Erez crossing on 9 March 2014. When she arrived at the crossing, the Israeli authorities refused to allow anyone to accompany her, so she had to walk on her own for about a kilometer into the crossing for the interview. She entered Erez crossing alone at approximately 9:00 am. She waited there until 3:00 pm before being interviewed.

Asia's husband told Mizan center that his wife was asked questions about her relatives and neighbors. The Israeli security did not ask her any questions about herself. She was not feeling well after she returned home and at approximately 1:30 am on Monday 10 March 2014 her condition deteriorated. Her husband took her to hospital where doctors tried to provide treatment, but she died at approximately 9:00 am on the same day.

The Mizan Center strongly condemned the ongoing Israeli blockade of the Gaza Strip, which puts civilians’ lives in danger, particularly patients who need medical treatment that Gaza’s hospitals cannot provide.

A cancer patient had also died two days ago after Egyptian authorities prevented her access to receive treatment in Egypt's hospitals.

Wife of judge killed at crossing 'to sue Israel'
Picture
The wife of a man who was killed by Israeli forces at Allenby Bridge on Monday will file a lawsuit against Israel if its allegations were untrue, her lawyer said.

Murad Mfarre, the Palestinian-Israeli lawyer of Raed Zeiter's widow, relayed her message that Zeiter “was well-known and law-abiding, and it is hard to imagine that he would try to snatch the weapon of the Israeli soldier.”

Mfarre said that she thinks the evidence and witness accounts contradict the Israeli account.

Mfarre told Ma’an that “There was a normal argument that turned into shooting. There are witnesses that we will reach, and we will demand that Israel show us security camera footage so we can figure out what happened.”

“If we make sure that the Israeli account is untrue, we will file a lawsuit against the State of Israel.”

Israel, meanwhile, expressed regret over the fatal shooting .

"Israel regrets the death of Judge Raed Zeiter yesterday (Monday) at the King Hussein (Allenby) bridge and expresses its sympathies to the people and government of Jordan," a statement from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office said.

The shooting, which took place on Monday morning, sparked the fury of both Jordan and the Palestinians, with protesters in Amman demanding the expulsion of the Israeli ambassador and the abrogation of the two countries' 1994 peace treaty.

The statement said Israel had shared the results of a preliminary inquiry with Amman, and had "agreed to a Jordanian request to establish a joint Israeli-Jordanian team to complete the investigation."

A preliminary investigation by the army published on Tuesday claimed that Zeiter had charged at soldiers with a metal pole, prompting troops to open fire at his legs.

He had then started strangling a soldier, so they opened fire again, it said. He died shortly after.

The joint investigative team was to start its work "promptly,' the statement said, without giving further details.

Zeiter was buried in his home city of Nablus in the northern West Bank earlier on Tuesday, with Jordan calling for the Israeli soldiers who shot him to be punished.
