Autopsy of captive Jaradat's body proves he died of severe torture

Picture
Arafat Shailesh Jaradat 30

The autopsy report, which was conducted on Sunday on the body of the prisoner Arafat Jaradat, proved that he was subjected to severe torture, and that he did not die of a heart attack, as claimed by the Israeli authorities. The report confirmed that Arafat has sustained his injuries recently in the period of his detention and interrogation.

The Palestinian doctor who participated in the autopsy of the Arafat's body, that took place in the Israeli Abu Kabir Institute, stated that the autopsy showed bruises and signs of torture on the back of the martyr on the right side, in addition to signs of torture on the chest and visible injuries down the neck and shoulder.

The report stressed that the autopsy showed that the heart of the martyr was sound, and that there are no signs of a heart attack, as the occupation claimed after the death of the young man.

Meanwhile; violent clashes broke out on Sunday between hundreds of citizens and the occupation forces in different parts of Ramallah, in the center of the West Bank.

Hundreds of citizens gathered near Ofer prison in the west of Ramallah and staged a march to protest the death of prisoner Arafat Jaradat, eyewitnesses told PIC.

The occupation forces suppressed the march, which led to the outbreak of violent clashes during which a number of Palestinian citizens suffered suffocation and minor wounds as the Israeli soldiers fired metal bullets and tear gas grenades.

Witnesses reported that similar clashes erupted near the Atara military checkpoint, north of Ramallah, after young people organized marches towards the checkpoint in protest at the killing of captive Jaradat.

The soldiers fired tear gas grenades and metal bullets at the youths who responded by throwing stones, empty bottles and Molotov cocktails.

Local sources said that violent confrontations have also broken out near the Qalandiya checkpoint in the south, where a number of citizens suffered from suffocation and the road leading to Jerusalem has been closed.

Clashes and confrontations were also renewed in several areas in al-Khalil Governorate to protest the death of Arafat in the Israeli jails.

The clashes started in the morning hours of Sunday in the area of Beit Ainun close to house of martyr Jaradat, as well as other areas in the center and the north of al-Khalil.

According to eyewitnesses; the Palestinian youths threw stones and empty bottles and set fire to tires while the occupation soldiers fired live and rubber-coated bullets and tear gas grenades at the young people.

In Gaza, thousands of citizens took part in a mass rally called for by Hamas movement in north of the Strip in condemnation of the assassination of martyr Arafat Jaradat by the occupation.

Marches were launched from mosques in the northern Gaza Strip, on Sunday evening. All the demonstrators gathered and headed to the house of the isolated prisoner Dirar Abu Sisi, chanting slogans condemning the crimes of the occupation and calling on the resistance fighters to capture Israeli soldiers in order to be able to release Palestinian prisoners through exchange deals.

Sheikh Mohammed Abu Askar said, in a speech he delivered on behalf of Hamas, that his movement and its military wing, Al-Qassam Brigades, will not abandon their responsibilities towards the prisoners, and are working to liberate them.

He also condemned the world's silence regarding the Israeli crimes, and demanded the international community to exert pressure on the occupation to release the prisoners, especially the hunger strikers.

Hundreds of Palestinian women have also participated on Sunday in a mass rally in solidarity with Palestinian hunger striking prisoners and in protest at the policy of administrative detention.

The march which was called for by Wissal network, under the Association of Culture and Free Thought, was launched from the Unknown Soldier Square in Gaza, and headed to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The participants in the march raised Palestinian flags, photos of hunger striking prisoners and banners denouncing the Israeli crimes against them.

A delegation of the marchers, headed by Director of the Culture and Free Thought Association Mariam Zakut, handed a protest note to the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights in Gaza in which they expressed their protest at the poor conditions of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, and demanded the international institutions to protect the prisoners.

The protestors held a rally outside the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights where speeches were delivered in which speakers stressed on their solidarity with the issue of prisoners.

Zakut pointed to the difficult conditions of prisoners in general, and hunger strikers in particular, and called on all concerned authorities and humanitarian institutions to immediately intervene in order to protect the captives before it is too late.

Hebrew media revealed on Sunday that the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has sent a letter to the Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas, demanding him to "take the necessary measures to calm the situation in the West Bank."

The demonstrations that have broken out in the past two days in different parts of the occupied West Bank in solidarity with the prisoners led the occupation forces to take precautionary measures in anticipation of the deterioration of the situation in the West Bank.

Four Palestinian prisoners; Samer al-Issawi, Ayman Sharawna, Jafar Ezzedine and Tarek Qa'adan, have been waging an open hunger strike for months in the Israeli occupation jails, in protest at their administrative detention.

More than 25 thousand Palestinians have attended on Monday afternoon the large funeral procession of the Martyr Arafat Shailesh Jaradat in the town of Seir.

Thousands of citizens from the city of al-Khalil and its villages and different parts of the West Bank have come in the early morning hours to the house of martyr Jaradat challenging the Israeli barriers and checkpoints, where the Israeli authorities declared a state of alert in the city of al-Khalil and specifically in the town of Seir.

Dozens of political leaders from different factions, ex-detainees, Palestinian MPs, national and Islamic forces, and local and international media have all attended the funeral procession, where Palestinian flags and pictures of the martyr Jaradat were raised amid resounding slogans calling on the Palestinian resistance and all factions to respond promptly to this crime.

Several political, national, and Islamic leaders delivered commencement speeches during a military funeral procession, calling for prosecuting the Israeli officials for their crimes.

Violent clashes have erupted, immediately after the funeral of the martyr, between Palestinian youths in the neighborhood of Beit Ainun at the southern entrance of the town of Seir and Arroub camp.

Meanwhile, the Captive Movement continued its mass hunger strike for the second day in a row in the Israeli prisons protesting the murder of the prisoner Arafat Jaradat.

The vice president of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Association, Ahmed al-Fallit told Safa News Agency that the occupation prisons witnessed a state of tension before the martyrdom of Jaradat because of the Israeli Prison Service increased measures against the Palestinian hunger striking prisoners.

Al-Fallit confirmed that prisoners decided to step up their daily protests to condemn the Israeli repressive policy and ongoing aggressions against the prisoners, through refusing meals, impeding the daily count, and delaying the return to prison.

He renewed the prisoners' determination to go on a hunger strike on April 14 to mark the Palestinian Prisoners' Day, and the first anniversary of the Dignity battle.

He called on Arab and international human rights institutions to expose the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian prisoners and the occupation's violations to the international and humanitarian laws.

Violent clashes broke out on Monday near Ofer prison west of Ramallah, in protest against the murder of the prisoner Jaradat and in support of the striking prisoners.

Hundreds of students from all student blocs marched to the Ofer prison for the tenth consecutive day, where violent clashes broke out, a leader in the Islamic bloc at Birzeit University told PIC reporter.

The source added that dozens of suffocation cases and injuries occurred when the occupation forces started firing tear gas bombs and metal bullets towards the students who came in solidarity with the prisoners on hunger strike.

In al-Khalil, clashes broke out Monday between hundreds of citizens and the occupation forces in different parts of al-Khalil in the southern West Bank.

The clashes broke out at Bab al-Zawiya in al-Khalil, where the occupation forces progressed towards to the areas under Palestinian control amid the absence of Authority security.

In the same context, the occupation army sent more military reinforcements to areas of the occupied West Bank, after the escalation of clashes following the death of prisoner Arafat as a result torture in Israeli jails.

Ministry of prisoners' affairs confirmed that the autopsy of Arafat Jaradat, who died on Saturday in the Israeli Megiddo Prison, shows that he died of severe torture inflicted during his interrogation, and not due to a cardiac arrest.

Jaradat family confirms the presence of bruises and blood on Arafat's body

Picture
Mother of Martyr Jaradat

Sources from the family of the martyr Arafat Jaradat, from the town of Sa'ir northeast of al-Khalil, confirmed the presence of bruises and blood on various parts of Arafat's body, which confirms that he was killed under torture.

The sources told PIC's reporter that Mohammed, Arafat's brother told the family members that there are bruises and blood on different parts of his brother's body as a result of being beaten and tortured during the interrogation, which contradicts the occupation's claim that his brother died from a heart attack.

Human rights organizations and the martyr's family demanded the formation of a commission of inquiry to uncover the circumstances of the assassination of Jaradat.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said on Sunday during a rally at the Unknown Soldier Square in Gaza City that his movement will resort to all means to liberate all Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails.

For his part; Dr. Atallah Abu Subbah, the Minister of prisoners' affairs, called on Fatah movement to return to the option of resistance and release the resistance fighters in the occupied West Bank in order to deter the occupation and stop its crimes against the prisoners.

Abu Subbah emphasized that kidnapping Israeli soldiers is the most successful way to liberate the Palestinian prisoners from the occupation jails, pointing out that the negotiations are futile and gave nothing for the prisoners and the Palestinian cause.

Mazen Fuqaha, the spokesman for the captive movement, warned of the possibility of the death of other prisoners under the international silence regarding the Israeli abuses.

He called for an urgent intervention to save the lives of the hunger striking prisoners who have been suffering in the occupation jails, before it is too late.

Fuqaha noted that the occupation deprives the prisoners of their basic rights, calling on the Palestinian people to launch a new uprising for the support of the captives.

Palestinian prisoner Arafat Shailesh Jaradat, 30, died in the Israeli Megiddo prison, six days after his arrest.

UFree launches an international campaign to address Israeli crimes

Picture
Arafat Jaradat 30

UFree Network to defend the rights of Palestinian prisoners strongly condemned the murder of the Palestinian prisoner Arafat Jaradat due to extreme torture during interrogation, bringing the number of Palestinian prisoners killed in Israeli jails to 207 detainees.

UFree Network called on the UN human rights council, which is due to meet next month, to put the issue of Palestinian prisoners and the brutal torture against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli occupation jails on its agenda.

Arafat was arrested on 18/2/2013, and was held in interrogation in Jalameh Detention Center. He is from Sa'eer, a village near al-Khalil. He is married and has two young children, a three year old and a two year old. Arafat and his wife Dalal were expecting their third child in June.

He was arrested by a special unit of the Israeli occupation army, where he has been murdered by Israeli security services while he was under extreme torture in Majdo prison facility, in addition to neglecting his health deterioration and not taking him to a hospital until he died.

"It’s widely known that Israel one of the top countries that constantly violates International laws. Yet, this fact did not drive an International action or pressure. Torture continued to be an integral part of the policy of this state. Meanwhile, no inspection against these prisons was carried out. There were also no reports that denounced what Israelis have been doing over the past decades," stated UFree.

UFree Network confirmed that it will launch a wide international media campaign to shed light on the Israeli inhumane practices against Palestinian prisoners, calling on the UN human rights council which is due next month, to put the issue of Palestinian prisoners on the agenda.

UFree denounced the international community silence towards the Israeli crimes, saying "such Israeli practiced and International community silence resulted in the death of Jaradat. It even gave Israel cover to continue its crimes against humanity."

It also calls on International organizations like the Red Cross, Amnesty and others to reveal all illegal practices committed by Israel and escalate them to the United Nations and the international community and European Union bodies.

Hamas holds occupation fully responsible for killing Jaradat

Hamas movement held Israeli occupation fully responsible for the death of the Palestinian prisoner Arafat Jaradat , 30, in light of torture and deliberate medical neglect and the harsh conditions in the Israeli jails. The movement confirmed that Jaradat's death reveals the seriousness of the Israeli systematic crimes against the Palestinian prisoners, and warned the occupation of the consequences of the continuation of its abuses.

"We call on human rights and humanitarian organizations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation and the Arab League to protect the Palestinian prisoners who have been daily exposed to slow death as a result of the ongoing abuses against them, and to put pressure on the occupation to immediately release them," the movement said in a statement issued by its Information office.

Hamas also called for escalating the popular events in confronting the Israeli occupation crimes against the captives.

Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, Hamas spokesman, told PIC in a statement on Saturday evening that killing the prisoner Arafat Jaradat represents a dangerous escalation, and held the occupation fully responsible for the crime and for all its repercussions.

Abu Zuhri called for staging more popular events against the Israeli violations, and demanded the international community to pressure the occupation to end the prisoners' suffering.

The Palestinian prisoner Arafat Jaradat, from Sa'ir village in al-Khalil in the southern West Bank, died in the Israeli Megiddo prison, six days after his arrest.

The Israeli radio claims that the Palestinian prisoner Jaradat died from a heart attack in the prison, while the family of the martyr affirms that he was killed as a result of torture.

Jaradat's family members said that the occupation Special Forces arrested Arafat with a relative, Riad Jaradat, on charges of throwing stones at settlers' cars and transferred them to Jalama detention center.

They held the Israeli prison administration fully responsible for killing their son as it did not provide him with the adequate medical treatment, after he was severely tortured during interrogation.

Palestinian prisoner dies in Israeli jail

Picture
Arafat Jaradat 30

Palestinian prisoner Arafat Jaradat was proclaimed dead in the Israeli Megiddo jail on Saturday, sources in the Palestinian prisoner’s society announced. The Israeli radio earlier said that a 30-year-old prisoner died of a heart attack in Megiddo jail without mentioning his name.

Scores of Palestinian prisoners had died in Israeli captivity such as Raed Abu Hammad in 2010 or shortly after their release the latest being Ashraf Al-Masalama in early 2013.

PA officials call for inquiry into Israeli jail death

Palestinian Authority officials on Saturday demanded an international investigation into the death of a detainee who died in an Israeli jail hours earlier, with family members saying he was in good health before his arrest.

A spokeswoman for Israel's Prison Authority said that the detainee, 30-year-old Arafat Jaradat, had apparently died of cardiac arrest. An emergency service team had tried to resuscitate him but failed, she said.

"Our information was that Jaradat was being interrogated and then he died. Therefore we call for an international investigation into his death, that may have resulted from torture," Palestinian Authority Minister of Detainees Issa Qaraqe said.

Israel's internal security service, Shin Bet, said in a statement that Jaradat began feeling ill after eating lunch, while he was resting, and that a police inquiry into the circumstances of his death had begun.

"During his interrogation ... on Thursday, Jaradat was examined numerous times by a doctor. No health problems were found in these examinations and the interrogation continued," the Shin Bet said.

Jaradat, according to Shin Bet, suffered from various health problems prior to his arrest, including back aches and injuries in his leg and stomach, sustained from a rubber bullet and a tear gas canister.

However, family members told Ma'an that Arafat was in good health before his arrest and did not suffer from any diseases or health conditions.

"Arafat was taken directly to a prison far from his residential area. He was taken to al-Jalama prison in the north instead of being taken as usual to interrogation centers close to his area of residence. He was held there for four days before he was transferred to Megido prison," his uncle Mousa Jaradat said.

Arafat was the father of two children, Yara, 4, and Muhammad, who is two years old.

"The whole town is sad," his uncle said.

Arafat's wife, Dalal, told Ma'an that an Israeli intelligence officer brought him back to his home minutes after being arrested and told him to bid farewell to his children.

"For that reason I was worried. My husband was detained several times before, but this time the intelligence officer talked in a bizarre way," she said.

PA ministry of detainees official Ziad Abu Ein is scheduled to meet with the family on Saturday to inform them about arrangements for delivering his body for burial.

Abu Ein said that the Ministry of Detainees would request that a Palestinian doctor representing the ministry examine the body and conduct an autopsy.

He called on the World Health Organization and the International Committee of the Red Cross to take part in the examination.

Jaradat was arrested this week under suspicion he was involved in stone-throwing that had wounded an Israeli settler in the occupied West Bank, the Shin Bet said.

There are 4,743 Palestinian prisoners in Israeli prisons and detention centers, including 178 administrative detainees, 10 women and 193 children, according to Addameer.

Israeli Amendment denies Palestinians the right to judicial remedy, compensation

Picture
Palestinian human rights activists have launched a judicial battle against the Israeli state, to stop its evasion of compensating the families of Palestinian victims killed by its soldiers.

The Knesset has approved, on the 23rd of last July, Civil Damages (State Liability) Law amendment No. 8, which denies Palestinians the right to receive compensations for damage caused by Israeli security forces. It applies under all circumstances.

The Israeli Southern Central Court in Be’er Sheva dismissed, on Thursday the 7th of February 2013, three civil claims cases brought before it by the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (PCHR). These cases concerned three separate incidents involving the killing of 14 Palestinian civilians and wounding of 24 others during the Israeli offensive on the Gaza Strip, ‘Operation Cast Lead’, in 2008-2009

Amendment No. 8 exempts the State of Israel from any liability arising from damage caused to a resident of an enemy territory during a “combat action” or a “military operation”

Raji Sourani, Director of PCHR, said that such tactics employed by the Israeli judiciary deny Palestinian victims the right to access justice and the right to an effective remedy with respect to both civil and criminal cases.

He asserted that such measures very strongly indicate Israel’s unwillingness to fulfil its legal obligations towards the victims of its military operations through its domestic mechanisms.

Sourani told Quds Press Agency that recourse to international justice mechanisms, such as the International Criminal Court, is essential for achieving justice and accountability for Palestinian victims, thereby tackling Israeli impunity and ensuring respect for the rights of Palestinians in the future.

Israel classifies the entire occupied Palestinian territory as a ‘conflict zone’ and, since 2007, Israel has prevented Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip – whether victims, witnesses, or their lawyers – from travelling to appear before Israeli courts. As a result, the courts have dismissed many cases under the pretext of the complainants and witnesses not being present during the proceedings.

Amendment no. 8 directly contravenes norms of customary international law, which establish that a State (in this instance Israel) is responsible for all acts committed by persons who are operating as part of its armed forces.

Moreover, as a High Contracting Party to the 1949 Fourth Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War, Israel cannot be absolved from any liability it incurs in respect of grave breaches or serious violations, which are committed against the civilian population during military operations.

Fayez Salha, a Palestinian citizen whose wife, four children and sister-in-law were killed as Israeli forces bombed his home in 2009, has sued the occupation demanding financial compensation, but the Court decided to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, and fined the plaintiffs 20000 shekels.

Fayez said he is planning to go to the Palestinian Presidency to demand it to defend his case, demanding the PA President to take it "seriously".

He has also threatened to escalate the judicial procedures, expressing surprise at the international community's silence regarding such Israeli measures.

For his part; Issam Younis, Director of Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, stressed on the liability of the international community, especially the Contracting Parties to the Fourth Geneva Convention.

Israeli court acquits army, justifies its killing of Gazan family

Picture
An Israeli court rejected a Palestinian lawsuit filed against the Israeli army regarding its killing of civilians and children from one family in an aerial attack on their house during the 2009 war on the Gaza Strip, and also fined the plaintiffs.

The Israeli central court in Beersheba two weeks ago refused the complaint that was filed by Al-Mizan center for human rights against the Israeli army about its bombing of a civilian house belonging to Fayez Saleha on January 9, 2009.

The court also decided to fine the plaintiffs 20,000 shekels as expenses for its adjudication.

The court acquitted the Israeli army and claimed that despite the proved failure of the army to give the residents the chance to leave their house, the Israeli aerial attack happened during wartime.

According to a probe into the attack conducted by Al-Mizan center, an Israeli drone had fired one missile at the house, which is located in Beit Lahia north of Gaza, before another Israeli warplane hastened to drop a heavy bomb on it.

The bombing led to the killing of Saleha's wife, all her four children and her young sister.

The victims are Randa Fayez, the mother and her kids, Diauddin, aged 14, Bahauddin, four years, Rana, 12, and Rula, one year as well as her sister Fatima, 22.
Al-Mizan center had filed a request in November 2009 with the Israeli military prosecutor demanding him to open an investigation into the incident, but he closed the probe quickly and did not make any indictments.

After learning about the event from the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, Rishon Lezion Police searched for the crime scene. Lacking any complaint, report or substantial information they searched until stumbling upon the construction site.

The victim was taken to the hospital by a Rishon Lezion resident, who was later delayed for questioning at the city's police station. Detectives demanded to know how he came upon the crime scene and whether or not he had any pertinent information regarding the event.

The police's forensics lab technicians arrived at the scene and attempted to gather evidence that could lead them to a suspect.

Crime wave

In a separate incident in Rishon Lezion, a beach party deteriorated into brawl, leaving a 17-year-old moderately wounded after he was stabbed.

The teen was evacuated to the Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, and police have arrested a number of suspects allegedly involved in the beach brawl.

A week ago a 16-year-old was killed in Jaffa. He was brought to a hospital in critical condition with a knife wound to the chest, and there he died from his wounds. Police suspect he too was involved in a brawl.

Last Saturday, a 19-year-old was shot to death in the Arab town of I'billin. The victim's brother also sustained a gunshot wound.

Picture
Qassam Dumaidi 18

A Palestinian teenager from Hawara village, south of Nablus, died on Tuesday of serious injuries sustained eight years ago when he was ten years old in a car accident. Family members said that Qassam Dumaidi was hit by a Jewish settler near the main road of Hawara and was in coma since then.

The main road in Hawara is described by citizens as the “death road” due to the numerous hit and run accidents recorded on it.

In a related incident on Monday night, a Palestinian young man was injured when an Israeli army vehicle rammed into his car south of Bethlehem.

Medical sources said that Khalifa Mahamid, 23, suffered moderate injuries as a result of the incident.

Israel using lethal force against Palestinian protesters: Rights group
An Israeli rights group has criticized Tel Aviv for using lethal force against peaceful demonstrations by Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, Press TV reports.

The report released by the al-Quds (Jerusalem) group B'Tselem says the regime "extensively and systematically violated" rules barring deadly retaliation for non-lethal assault.

Israeli soldiers have been using live rounds to disperse unarmed Palestinian protesters in the occupied West Bank, killing 56 people since 2005 in clashes with rock-throwing protesters.

On January 23, Israeli forces gunned down Lubna Hanash, 22, in front of Aroub Refugee Camp near the southern West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron).

Hanash was reportedly traveling to her sister's home when she was shot in the face by Israeli forces.
On the same day, a teenager identified as Saleh Amarain was killed after he sustained a gunshot wound to the head. A week earlier, 17-year-old Sameer Awad died after he was shot four times by Israeli forces.

The B’Tselem report demanded that Israel prohibit the use of live ammunition to disperse peaceful demonstrations, and restrict the use of rubber-coated metal bullets to instances of mortal danger.

It also urged an end to the firing of 40mm tear-gas canisters either directly at individuals or horizontally, in a way that could cause result in injuries.

Experts believe that the Palestinian fatalities in clashes with Israeli forces this month alone indicates the unlawful use of crowd control weapons, noting that most of the victims died of live ammunition wounds to the head.

Palestinian patient dies at Erez due to prolonged security measures

Picture
Salah Salluha

A Palestinian patient died at the Erez crossing to the north of Gaza Strip on Friday evening due to the delay in allowing the ambulance car carrying him to cross. Medical sources told the PIC that Salah Salluha was carried in an ambulance car and had to wait for two hours at Erez due to complicated security measures.

The sources said that Salluha, a dentist, was suffering from acute pneumonia for the past two weeks and was held in ICU in Gaza hospitals before deciding to transfer him to Carmel hospital in 1948 occupied Palestine.

They pointed out that the Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) had repeatedly denied him permission and when he was accepted, the Israeli occupation forces manning the crossing thoroughly searched him and the ambulance vehicle, delaying his crossing and eventually leading to his death.

Dozens of Palestinian patients died due to the IOA refusal to allow them treatment inside 1948 occupied Palestine or due to delays similar to what happened to Salluha.

Picture
Lubna Muneer Hanash 21

Medical sources in Hebron announced the death of the 21-year-old Palestinian girl Lubna Muneer Hanash from Bethlehem and three others wounded after an Israeli settler opened fire near al-Aroub refugee camp, north of Hebron. Witnesses and medical sources said that a settler opened fire at Palestinians, while driving by al-Aroub college, injuring Lubna Hanash with a bullet in her head and was admitted to the ICU in Al-Ahli Hospital in Hebron, and later announced dead.

The Palestinian Ahmad Yousef Abu Ghazi from al-Aroub camp and Salah Kamel Abu Hashhash and the girl Suad Yousef Ja'arah, 38, were wounded and admitted to the same hospital for treatment.

Media spokesperson of the Popular Committee to Resist Settlement and Apartheid Wall in Beit Ummar, Mohammad Awad, said that the shooting occurred at the northern gate of the college, and that a force from the Israeli army and police came to the incident place and prevented Palestinians from reaching the gate.

Watch: Father Cries Over Murdered Daughter
On Wednesday 23rd January, the 21-years-old young Palestinian woman from Bethlehem, Lubna Hanash, was shot and killed by settlers riding in a car near Aroub refugee camp which is on the road between Bethlehem and Hebron in the southern occupied West Bank.

Hanash was a fourth-year political science student at Al-Quds University, and had been visiting her sister in Aroub camp.

A video by PNN, shows footage from al-Ahli hospital in Hebron, including shots of confrontations erupted with Israeli soldiers following the passage of Lubna's body, then shots of Hanash on a stretcher with a heavily bandaged head and her father wailing his daughter's death.

"She didn't do anything, she is only a citizen, she's Innocent," cried her father, "Why did the settlers kill her? .....enough torture."

This is the reality of Palestinians' life; they are subjected to continuous arbitrary killings by Israeli forces and settlers and such incidents are almost never been condemned and never result in credible investigations.

Mourners bury woman, teen killed by Israeli forces in Bethlehem

Hundreds of mourners on Wednesday attended the funerals of a woman and a teenager shot and killed by Israeli forces in Bethlehem.

Lubna Hanash, 22, was shot in the head on Wednesday morning as Israeli soldiers in a civilian car opened fire at a group standing at the entrance to al-Arrub refugee camp south of Bethlehem.

She was buried in the Hussein Ubayyat cemetery on the eastern outskirts of Bethlehem.

Also Wednesday, 15-year-old Salih al-Amarin, from Azza refugee camp, died in hospital after Israeli forces shot him in the head during clashes in Bethlehem on Friday.

Mourners carried the teenager's body from his family home to a cemetery in Aida refugee camp.

Clashes erupted near Aida camp as angry residents threw stones at Israeli soldiers, who fired rubber-coated bullets and tear gas canisters at mourners, injuring 10 Palestinians.

Three Palestinians were hospitalized, including one young man who was hit in the face by a rubber-coated bullet, Red Crescent official Abdul-Halim Jaafra said.

Jaafra told Ma'an that another seven people were treated at the scene for injuries.

An Israeli military spokeswoman said around 400 Palestinians rioted and threw rocks and fires at forces "who responded with riot dispersal means."

At least six Palestinians have been fatally shot by Israeli forces in January.

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad issued a statement calling for "strong condemnation from the international community" of these shootings, and urged "immediate intervention to compel Israel to desist from these serious attacks on our people."

At the UN Security Council on Wednesday, UN envoy Robert Serry expressed concern at the increased use of live fire by Israeli forces in the West Bank.

UFree holds Israel fully responsible for death of ex-detainee Ashraf Abu Darea

Picture
The European network for the rights of prisoners UFree said that Israel must be held accountable for the death of former Palestinian prisoner Ashraf Abu Darea.

In a press release, UFree stated that Abu Darea was kept in detention despite his serious health condition for six and a half years and released only when his jailers were aware that he might die any moment.

"All facts prove that Israel was behind the assassination of Abu Darea as they kept him in prison for a long time despite his poor health condition. He was released only when Israel realized that his life was at a critical stage and he might die any moment, not to mention that he was medically neglected and not given the proper health care," UFree emphasized.

Mohamad Hamdan, head of UFree, said the Israeli occupation state is not committed to international law concerning prisoners and its actions flagrantly violate article 92 of the fourth Geneva convention of 1949.

According to this article, "medical inspections of internees shall be made at least once a month. Their purpose shall be, in particular, to supervise the general state of health, nutrition and cleanliness of internees, and to detect contagious diseases, especially tuberculosis, malaria, and venereal diseases. Such inspections shall include, in particular, the checking of weight of each internee and, at least once a year, radioscopic examination."

“We are worried about the lives of the rest of Palestinian prisoners in Israel jails. We are grieved by the death of Ashraf and share these sad moments with his family," Hamdan said.

"We will continue our work to expose Israel in cooperation with the free world until our prisoners are freed. We will not wait until they are killed by Israel. Today Abu Darea is dead and recently there were Zuhair Abu Lubada and Zakaria Issa Dawood," he added.

Accordingly, UFree called on international human rights organizations like ICRC and WHO to bear their responsibilities in this regard and save the prisoners.

In a related context, Palestinian lawmaker Mohamed Attal said the Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, especially the patients, die slowly as a result of the medical neglect policy pursued against them.

MP Attal added in a press statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC) on Tuesday that Ashraf Abu Darea stayed for a long time suffering in the notorious infirmary of the Ramla jail, which is worse than jails.

The lawmaker said he believes that Abu Darea was injected with some virus by the occupation before he was released from jail.

Ashraf Masalma dies in hospital, Israeli jailers held responsible

Picture
Ashraf Masalma 29

Palestinian ex-detainee from Hamas Ashraf Masalma died on Monday evening in a hospital where he had gone into a coma a few weeks after his release from an Israeli jail.

His mother told the Palestinian information center (PIC) that her son Ashraf died in Augusta Victoria hospital in Jerusalem where he had stayed several weeks after he had caught a deadly virus in his lungs.

Ashraf was a disabled prisoner in Ramla prison hospital where he suffered from muscular dystrophy. He was released on November 15. The prisoner's difficult health condition is due to medical neglect, which was exercised against him and against hundreds of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails, where some of them died several weeks after being released such as the liberated prisoners Zuhair Lapada and Zakaria Issa.

His mother held the Israeli regime and its prison authority fully responsible for the death of her son, accusing the jailers of injecting him with a virus that led to damage to his brain and lungs.

For its part, the Hamas Movement mourned the death of Ashraf Masalma, 29, from Beit Awwa town of Al-Khalil, and called on the Palestinian masses to march in his funeral procession.

In a press release, Hamas said the Israeli regime had detained Ashraf without any regard for his health condition and then left him suffer slowly in its jails, holding it fully responsible for his death.

Hamas hailed Masalma as a strong resistance activist who defied the occupation and his medical condition, and showed admirable patience, noting that he was from a family noted for its great sacrifices.

Former Detainee Dies Due To Medical Neglect While In Prison

The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported, Monday evening, that a former Palestinian political prisoner from Hebron, died at a hospital in Jerusalem after falling into a coma 50 days ago due to a serious health condition resulting from his imprisonment by Israel, and the lack of medical treated while in prison.

The PPS said that Ashraf Abu Thra’, 27, from Beit Awwa village, west of the southern West Bank city of Jenin, was hospitalized at the Augusta Victoria hospital in Jerusalem where he fell into a 50-day coma until his death.

Nasser Qous, director of the PPS in Jerusalem, stated that Abu Thra’ spent six years in the Al-Ramla prison clinic that lacks basic supplies and specialized physicians; he was wheelchair bound, and suffered numerous health complication that were left untreated.

He was released on November 15, 2012 after a serious deterioration in his health condition, and was hospitalized in Jerusalem on the day of his release.

Issa Qaraqe’, Palestinian Minister of Detainees, held Israel responsible for the death of Abu Thra’, and stated that Israel deprived him from the urgently needed medications, physical therapy sessions, and the urgently needed specialized medical attention, an issue that caused serious complications.

He added that three Palestinians detainees died within two years of their release due to serious complications resulting from the lack of adequate and specialized medical attention in prison.

Dozens of detainees died in Israeli prisons due to similar health complications.

The two detainees who died with the last two years, shortly after their release, have been identified as Zakariyya Issa and Zuheir Labbada.

There are currently more than 4500 Palestinians who are still imprisoned by Israel, including 198 children, eight women, and several elected legislators and officials.

79 detainees have died in prison since the beginning of the Al-Aqsa Intifada (In late September 2000) due to torture, medical neglect, excessive use of force by the soldiers and interrogators, in addition to several detainees who were executed by the arresting officers, former Political Prisoner, Palestinian Researcher, former political prisoner, Abdul-Nasser Farawna said.

A total of 202 detainees died or were killed in Israeli prisons since 1967; dozens of detainees also died after they were released due to diseases they encountered in prison or due to complications resulting from extreme torture and bad conditions in prisons.

Palestinian teenager killed by the Israeli military near Budrus

A Palestinian teenager was shot repeatedly and killed by the Israeli military this morning near the West Bank village of Budrus. The details are still a little fuzzy; some new outlets are reporting Awad was shot four times, others three. There is also a discrepancy over his age as either 16 or 17. The Popular Struggle Coordination Committee (PSCC) said in a press release that Awad was shot while walking near clashes between Palestinians and the military.

From the PSCC:

Army Shoots Dead 16 Year Old Palestinian in Budrus

Sameer Awwad (16) was shot today with 3 live bullets at the West Bank village of Budrus, west of Ramallah. Awwad is the fourth to be killed near the Barrier in five days.

This morning, while children were clearing out of their classes in the village of Budrus, Israeli soldiers who convened by the Barrier near the school shot and killed 16 year-old Sameer Awwad.

According to eyewitnesses, Sameer was walking away from light clashes that had erupted by the Barrier when he was shot from the back with three bullets, from a distance of about 100 meters. One bullet hit his leg, another at the back of his neck and exited near his eyebrow, and the third entered his rib cage and exited from his chest.

Yet the Jewish Press reported the IDF Spokesperson said there were no clashes and that soldiers killed the youth while he was attempting to enter Israel outside of a military crossing:

Initial reports incorrectly stated that there was a physical confrontation between Palestinians and the IDF soldiers in the village of Burdos, near the security fence.

The IDF spokesman finally released a statement that an IDF unit protecting the security fence, saw an attempt to breach the security fence near Burdos, and the unit attempted to stop the infiltrator, and shot him.

Shortly after shots were fired Wattan News was on site and filmed an emergency medical team trying to resuscitate Awad in a hospital in Ramallah, reporting he was shot three times: in the head, chest and leg.

The Jerusalem Post also picked up the story, indicating just a few days ago another Palestinian was killed by Israeli forces while crossing the 1967 border in order to go to work:

The IDF opened fire on a Palestinian youth who it said attempted to cross into Israel from the West Bank on Tuesday morning. The youth later died at a Ramallah hospital.

The IDF Spokesman's Office said the man had tried to breach the security fence at Budrus, which is northwest of Ramallah, adding that the man ignored orders from soldiers to stop and warning shots fired in the air.

Palestinian sources reported that 16-year-old Samir Awad of Budrus was killed after being shot four times by IDF troops.

On Saturday, IDF troops opened fire at and killed a Palestinian man the army said was attempting to enter Israel from the southern West Bank in the south Hebron hills.

Palestinian medical sources reported that a 17-year-old Palestinian was shot and killed by four rounds of live ammunition fired by Israeli soldiers at him as he walked near his school close to the Israeli Annexation Wall in Bodros village, west of the central West Bank city of Ramallah.

The slain young Palestinian has been identified as Samir Ahmad Abdul-Rahim, 17. He was shot as he and his schoolmates were leaving school.

Local sources reported that the army was heavily deployed in the school area, and repeatedly provoked dozens of students, an issue that led to clashes between the soldiers and some students.

The army then fired several rounds of live ammunition hitting Samir with several rounds to the head, chest and leg.

He was moved to a local hospital but succumbed to his serious injuries despite all attempts to save his life

Bahar calls for prosecuting Israeli war criminals internationally

Picture
Dr. Ahmed Bahar, the First Deputy Chairman of the Legislative Council, stressed the need for concerted efforts to prosecute Israel's war criminals for their crimes against the Palestinian people, praising the Egyptian and Sudanese support for the Palestinian cause.

This came during a meeting of the Legislative Council, on Sunday with a delegation of human rights activists from the international Union of Jurists, along with delegations from Egypt and Sudan, at the Council's headquarters in Gaza.

Bahar welcomed the human rights delegation, where he briefed them on the situation of the people of the Gaza Strip after the recent Israeli aggression, and the crimes carried out by the occupation against civilians in their homes, and the bombing of infrastructure and civil institutions, stressing the need to pursue the occupation leaders as war criminals.

For his part, the Secretary-General of the Union and head of the delegation, the lawyer Nissata Ceylon, said that the union composed of members from 32 countries around the world, primarily seeks to defend human rights, and shed light on human rights violations that occur in many parts of the world.

He stressed that the Union members came on this trip to the Gaza Strip to document the evidences, and to monitor violations carried out by the occupation in the recent war against the Gaza Strip, adding: "We have been following the events from abroad, and we have come to the strip to document everything and prepare a detailed report for violations and hand it to the concerned authorities."

He expressed his hope to reinforce relationship between the Legislative Council and international human rights organizations to achieve better results for the Palestinian cause and the trial of war criminals and to restore the rights to their owners.

For his part, the MP Mohammed Faraj al-Ghoul, head of PLC legal committee, said that the Palestinian people seek justice by trying war criminals, especially that the arrogant Israeli occupation has assaulted 36 countries by targeting Mavi Marmara in the territorial waters.

The Israeli occupation represents a threat to international security, where it commits crimes in total violation to the international law, supported by the U.S. veto, he added.

At the end of the meeting, Bahar handed a shield of honor to the delegation for their efforts in supporting the Palestinian cause and monitoring the Israeli violations.

Furthermore, Bahar has received an Egyptian delegation headed by the Undersecretary for the Egyptian Youth Sports Committee, Yasser Hassanein, in the PLC headquarters in Gaza and in the presence of several deputies.

Bahar praised the Egyptian official and popular position towards the Palestinian cause and in particular President Mursi's supportive position to the right of the Palestinian people.

For his part, the head of the Egyptian delegation Yasser Hassanein confirmed that Egypt attaches great importance to Gaza and the Palestinians, stressing that "this visit represents one ring in the communication chain which began after the Egyptian revolution and that will continue until the liberation of all Palestine and al-Aqsa mosque."

The Palestinian Legislative Council in Gaza has also received a solidarity Sudanese delegation composed of 54 members headed by Sudanese presidential adviser Qutbi Mahdi.

Bahar welcomed the brotherly delegation from Sudan which is representative of all segments of Sudanese society, stressing that "Sudan stands with the Palestinian issue since 1948, where volunteers were arriving from Khartoum to Palestine to defend our land."

He praised the Sudanese support for the Palestinian cause especially during Furqan war as the Sudanese doctors delegation was the first to arrive to Gaza, stressing that this visit came after the resistance victory.

Bahar considered the victory of the resistance not only for Palestine, but also for Sudan and the Arab and Islamic nation and all the free people in the world, adding that by such visits the Palestinian case began to regain its Arab and Islamic depth.

For his part, the Sudanese Presidential Advisor Dr. Mahdi, confirmed that the visit of the Sudanese delegation comes within Sudan's policy and vision to support the Palestinian people and their cause, and to stand with the besieged Gaza Strip, expressing hope that this visit will reinforce the links with the Palestinian people and Gaza.

"Sudan was aware of the seriousness of Israel and this why we are in permanent confrontation with the Israeli entity," he said.

Palestinian Youth Killed By Israeli Fire In Gaza

Picture
Mohammad Al-Mamlouk 19

Palestinian medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported that a Palestinian teenager was shot and killed by Israeli military fire, while another resident was wounded, east of Jabalia, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

The sources said that the slain youth, Mohammad Al-Mamlouk, 19, was seriously injured by live ammunition and died of his wounds at the Kamal Odwan hospital, the Palestine News Network (PNN) reported.

The other resident was moderately injured; he was admitted to surgery where the doctors extracted the bullet, and his health condition was described as moderate.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli soldiers, stationed across the border east of Jabalia, opened automatic fire at several Palestinian farmers working on the lands near the border fence, killing one and wounding another resident.

Part of the ceasefire agreement mediated by Egypt between the resistance in Gaza and Israel, the Israeli army was supposed to void the “buffer zone” along the border with Gaza.

By imposing this zone the army prevented hundreds of farmers from entering their farmlands located close to the border fence.

Four Palestinians have been killed in similar attacks that took place after the ceasefire agreement was reached, and dozens have been wounded.

The cease fire ended an 8-day war in November of last year during which Israeli missiles and shells killed 191 Palestinians, including children, women and elderly, while at least 1492 Palestinians have been injured, dozens seriously.

The Information Center of the Palestinian Ministry of Health Information reported that 48 children, including 16 under the age of five, have been killed by Israeli missiles and shells, in addition to 12 women and 20 elderly.

The Center added that 1492 Palestinians, including 533 children (195 under the age of 5), 254 women and 103 elderly have been injured by Israeli fire and shells. Furthermore, at least five Palestinians have been killed after the ceasefire agreement was reached, and 54 have been injured.

As part of the ceasefire agreement that ended the Israeli war on Gaza in November 2012, Palestinian fishermen were allowed to fish within 6 nautical miles off the Gaza coast. But the Israeli Navy continued to attack Palestinian fishermen leading to dozens of injuries.

Under the Oslo peace deal signed with Israel in the mid-nineties, Palestinian fishermen are supposed to be allowed to fish in 20 nautical miles off the Gaza coast.

After the second Intifada started in late September 2000 Israel prevented the fishermen from fishing, and then reduced their allotted area to only 3 nautical miles.

One Gazan killed, another seriously wounded in Israeli gunfire

One Palestinian young man was killed and another sustained serious wounds on Friday evening in Gaza when the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) opened fire at them. Local sources reported that the IOF stationed in the east of the martyrs' cemetery to the north of Gaza opened fire at a crowd of Palestinian civilians leading to the killing of Mohamed Al-Mamlouk and the injury of another.

This is considered one of many violations committed by Israel following the truce deal with the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.

Since the calm, Israel has killed three civilians and wounded many others, arrested about 30 fishermen off the coast of Gaza and destroyed and confiscated some boats.

Hamas: IDF soldiers kill Palestinian along Gaza border

IDF spokesman says soldiers opened fire after dozens of Palestinians approached the border fence in northern Gaza; victim identified as 21-year-old Anwar Al-Mamlouk, who was reportedly studying for an exam.

Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian and seriously wounded another in the northern Gaza Strip near the border with Israel on Friday, the Islamist group Hamas and hospital officials said.

The Israeli military said the soldiers opened fire after dozens of Palestinians approached the border fence, an area Israel has long designated as off-limits to Gazans, citing past attempts to attack Israeli patrols along the frontier.

"The (Israel Defense Forces) will not tolerate any attempt to damage the security fence and harm Israel's sovereignty," a spokesman said.

Anwar Al-Mamlouk, 21, was in the outdoor area studying for an exam when he was killed, according to his brother Hani, who was not harmed in the incident.

The frontier has been relatively quiet since Israel and Hamas agreed on Nov. 21 to a ceasefire that ended eight days of fighting in which 170 Palestinians and six Israelis were killed.

Since the truce, three Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli troops along the border.

Report: 3 martyrs and 80 wounded by Israeli bullets during December

Picture
The Israeli occupation authorities continued last December their repressive policies against the Palestinian people killing 3, wounding 80, and kidnapping 322.

The monthly report concerning the Israeli violations against Palestinian people, issued by the Ministry of Planning in the Palestinian government in Gaza, stated that the Israeli abuses have escalated after the truce between the Palestinian factions and the Israeli entity sponsored by Egypt in 21/11 / 2012, after the Israeli aggression on the Gaza strip.

The report documented the martyrdom of two Palestinians after being injured during the aggression, and the martyrdom of a third citizen in the West Bank.

It pointed out that the IOF carried out approximately 4 incursions in the Gaza Strip, and 170 incursions in the West Bank cities and towns, during which they launched arrest and search campaigns.

The number of arrests during December is about 322 including 34 children, 3 women, 30 fishermen from the Gaza strip after being attacked in the sea of Gaza, while arresting 5 Palestinian youths near the separation fence.

The report addressed the situation of detainees in Israeli prisons, where they were subjected to harassment, strip searches, night raids, medical negligence and solitary confinement. It also pointed out to the deteriorating health condition of the prisoners on hunger strike for months, particularly Ayman Sharawna and Samer al-Issawi.

The report also indicated to the settlers' attacks during the December under the protection of the Israeli army, where the settlers attacked farmers and their land, and they broke into Islamic shrines under the pretext that they are Jewish shrines, in addition to their repeated incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform Talmudic rituals.

Settlement projects in the West Bank have witnessed unprecedented escalation following the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza, and the recognition of Palestine as a non-member state by the UN.

The report pointed to the high frequency of demolition of homes and establishments, where IOF demolished more than 10 houses, and demolished the village of Araqib for the 45th time respectively, and issued more than 10 demolition notifications to owners of houses and facilities, pointing out that 2012 recorded the highest number in the process of demolition of homes.

The report documented the Israeli attacks against journalists in order to impose a state of opacity for the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian people.

The report also pointed out to the Israeli continued arbitrary measures against Jerusalemites and their properties in the city of Jerusalem in order to Judaize it and deport its people, where MK Reuven Rivlin stated that "settlement construction issue in Jerusalem is nonnegotiable."

Barhoum: Washington's support to Israel a permit to kill Palestinians

Picture
Fawzi Barhoum, Hamas spokesman, considered that U.S. President's material support for Israeli military programs openly encourages killing and committing more crimes against Palestinians and the peoples of the region.

US President Barack Obama has signed into law the Defense Appropriations Bill for 2013 that offers significant support for the Israeli occupation by authorizing nearly 480 million dollars for the Israeli regime’s missile system.

Barhoum said in a statement on his Facebook page on Monday: "U.S. administration has to end such support and stop being biased to the Israeli occupation. It has to learn from its mistakes and change its policies that have denigrated the American people, harmed the interests of the Palestinians and destroyed the peoples of the region."

He also urged the Arab and Islamic countries to form a safety net in order to stop the occupation's procedures and to protect their holy places and the interests of their peoples.

The American financial support will be provided for the support of the Israeli defense systems. According to the American "Associated Press" agency 211 million dollars will be allocated to the iron dome system.
