Another eight people succumbed to complications related to coronavirus on Sunday, with the infection rate nearing a disturbing 10%, health officials reported.
The Health Ministry said that on Sunday they've conducted only 5,173 COVID-19 tests, of which 506 returned positive, putting the contagion rate at 9.8%. The numbers indicate that every tenth person who tests for the virus, turns out to be infected.
The number of tests conducted on Saturday was also low, with only 15,471 people tested. The ministry said at least 1,106 returned positive.
Eight more people died from the virus since midnight Sunday, bringing the death toll since the start of the epidemic in Israel to 468.

The center attributes the relatively low rate of new infections detected to only 15,476 tests conducted over the weekend while the percentage of positive test stands on 7.6%.
There are currently 33,854 people ill the coronavirus of which 329 are described as being in serious condition, 100 of them on ventilators.
According to a study conducted by Clalit, Israel's largest Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) only one percent of Israelis have thus far been exposed to the virus and have antibodies, far lower than the percentage needed before Israel would benefit from herd immunity.

Israel once again saw nearly 2,000 new daily coronavirus cases as well as a sharp rise in the number of ventilated patients, health officials said Saturday.
The Health Ministry reported that 1,770 people tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the number of active patients currently ill with the disease to 33,160.
With 23,153 tests conducted on Friday, the contagion rate remains alarmingly high at 8.2%.
The ministry said the number of patients in a serious condition has increased to 312, of which 94 are ventilated, a spike of ten new cases over the past 24 hours.
The death toll from coronavirus-related complications has increased to 455, an increase of seven fatalities over the past 24 hours.
The number of confirmed COVID-19 diagnoses since the start of the epidemic in Israel now stands at 60,496.

The Health Ministry also corrected Tuesday's tally of new virus patients from 1,975 to 2002, meaning the country has passed the worrying mark for two days straight.

Israel has reached 30,000 active coronavirus patients for the first time since the start of the outbreak, health officials reported Tuesday evening.
The Health Ministry reported the number of active patients now stands at 30,488, with the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases since the start of the epidemic climbing to 53,559. The number of active patients has increased by 10,000 cases since last Monday, when the tally stood at 20,251.
The ministry said that on Monday, 1,854 people tested positive for coronavirus after 27,299 tests that were conducted, putting the contagion rate at 8%.
The number of patients in a serious condition has increased to 256, out of which 77 require ventilator support. The death toll from coronavirus-related complications has risen to 424.
The report added at least 20 patients who are currently in a serious condition are between the ages of 20 to 39, 14 patients between the ages of 40 to 49 and 52 patients between the ages of 50 to 59.
Jerusalem still remains the city with the highest number of active virus cases, with 4,568 diagnoses, followed by Bnei Brak with 2,297, Tel Aviv with 2,009 and Ashdod with 1,116 people currently ill with the disease.
