At Least 17 Including 7 Reporters Injured As Army Attack Bab Al-Shams Again

Picture
Palestinian medical sources reported that at least 11 nonviolent peace activists, and 7 reporters, have been injured when Israeli soldiers attacked a group of activists trying to reach the Bab Al-Shams, the new village project meant to counter the illegal Israeli E1 settlement plan in occupied East Jerusalem. Several activists have been kidnapped.

Several activists were injured in their legs and arms, while one was injured in the chest and another was injured in the head.

The army prevented dozens of residents from reaching Bab Al-Shams but several youths managed to reach it, and the army started firing gas bombs and rubber-coated metal bullets, and chased dozens of residents in the surrounding hills, Abdullah Abu Rahma, coordinator of the Popular Committee Against the Wall reported.

The army also prevented Palestinian ambulances from reaching the area to provide the urgently needed care for wounded residents, and also prevented dozens of reported from performing their duties.

On their Facebook page, the Bab Al-Shams activists quoted one of the activists stating that approximately 200 persons were trying to reach Bab Al-Shams, and added that several activists are stuck in the mountains around in the area while Israeli military helicopters hovered overhead.

Two of the wounded reporters have been identified as Nasser Shiokhy and Mahmoud Oleyyan.

Abir Qubty, a local nonviolent activist stated that ten activists, including herself, initially managed to reach Bab Al-Shams, and that the army is arresting them, and added that earlier a few more activists were kidnapped by the army.

Later on, in a tweet from her Phone, Qubty said she and the rest of the kidnapped activists were in a police vehicles taking them to an unknown location, and that they were attacked and beaten by the police.

In a Facebook post published approximately 45 minutes ago, Bab Al-Shams reported that 22 of the kidnapped activists have been released at the Hizma roadblock, and added that it is likely that more activists are still detained.

Abdullah Abu Rahma told the Bethlehem 2000 Radio that dozens of activists managed to reach Bab Al-Shams by staging a fake wedding convoy, and after they were allowed through a military roadblock, they went to the village and started their nonviolent protest.

It is worth mentioning that more nonviolent activists are heading to the area determined to enter and rebuild Bab Al-Shams.

Bab Al-Shams activists said that they are determined to return to the Palestinian lands, adding “nothing can stop us”, sending a message to the occupation that this Palestine and that Palestinians have the right to build and inhabit it.

Bab Al-Shams was established in response to the illegitimate Israeli decision to build thousands of units for Jewish settlers in the “E1” area in occupied East Jerusalem, by illegally confiscating thousands of Dunams of Palestinian lands.

Some of the activists who made it to Bab Al-Shams raised the Palestinian flag declaring their determination to rebuild the tent village that the evicted by force last Sunday after the soldiers violently attacked the activists camping there.

Israeli crime against the Samouni family continues

Picture
Amal Samouni

European human rights organization warned of a new crime committed by the occupation against the Samouni family in Gaza, after 21 of its members had been executed during an Israeli military incursion on the Gaza Strip 4 years ago.

The Euro-Mediterranean Observatory for Human Rights said in a statement on Tuesday that the girl who has survived the Israeli massacre, committed against the Samouni family in 2009, suffers today from serious health complications after being hurt in the head by seven pieces of shrapnel from the occupation's rockets.

The human rights Observatory explained that the medical reports of the girl Amal Samouni, 15, show that her situation requires a serious surgical operation that cannot be accomplished in the Palestinian hospitals.

The child's mother told the Euro-Mediterranean Observatory that the Israeli authorities has been preventing them from traveling to the occupied territories and receive treatment in the Israeli hospitals, for "security reasons".

The Geneva based organization has denounced the acquittal by the Israeli military prosecution for the officers responsible for the air strike that had killed 21 members of the Samouni family in January 2009.

It also warned that if Israel continues to prevent Amal from receiving the necessary treatment, the file of the massacre committed against her family will be re-opened at  international forums.

Elderly woman from Jenin still suffer injuries from an Israeli dog attack

Picture
File picture was taken years ago of an Israeli wolfdog attacking a Palestinian woman

A 90-year old elderly woman named Amena Hasnawi is still suffering from the serious injuries she sustained in a dog attack during an Israeli raid on her house in Jenin city two weeks ago. An informed source said that the old age of Hasnawi doubled her suffering because of the critical wounds she had, noting that she underwent four surgeries.

Hasnawi was attacked by police wolfdogs on January 3, 2013 when the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed the industrial zone in Jenin and broke into her house.

The wolfdogs are one of the life-threatening intimidation means used by the IOF during raids on Palestinian homes in the West Bank; many Palestinians had suffered dog injuries in previous incidents.

Occupation storms a government building in al-Khalil

Picture
Israeli military forces stormed a Palestinian government building in the city of al-Khalil in the southern West Bank, and arrested a citizen in Silwan. Palestinian security sources said that a military force stormed the headquarters of the Palestinian Ministry of Finance in the Old City of al-Khalil, on Monday evening.

The sources also confirmed that a force of the occupation army arrested a youth, Dhia Baraka Ja'bari, in the Old City of al-Khalil in the late hours of last night.

The soldiers have also stormed yesterday evening the town of Beit Ummar, and fired tear gas in the center of the town.

For their part, a group of Jewish settlers attacked a Jerusalemite boy Yazan Diab, 14, while passing from Beydoun Street in Silwan, and sprayed pepper in his face. The boy was then transferred to a medical center in Silwan.

Israeli special forces penetrate northern Gaza

Picture
Israeli special forces penetrated on Tuesday morning, dozens of meters in the Abu Samra area northwest of the town of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip.

Local sources told PIC reporter that "an Israeli infantry unit has stepped forward several meters within the territory of the Palestinian farms in that area, while farmers withdrew from the region in order to preserve their lives.

The farmer Mustafa Abdul Hakim Abu Jarad, was martyred on Monday evening after being shot by Israeli bullets in the town of Beit Lahiya in the northern Gaza Strip at noon.

In November 21, Palestinian factions signed a truce with the Israeli side under the mediation of Egypt in Cairo a agreement, to stop the Israeli operations that lasted for eight days in Gaza, in return of stopping the Palestinian factions' rockets.

Among the truce terms imposed by the resistance was canceling the so-called buffer zone imposed by "Israel" along the Gaza border, and allow farmers to have access to their lands, and this is what actually happened, where the farmers have returned to their land with great joy, the occupation has surprised them - as expected - with violating the agreement.

Soldiers Invade Aida Refugee Camp In Bethlehem

Picture
Israeli soldiers invaded, on Tuesday at dawn, the Aida refugee camp, north of Bethlehem, broke into and searched several homes after forcing the residents out. The Radio Bethlehem 2000 reported that more than 30 Israeli soldiers invaded the camp and marched in its alleys before breaking into several homes and searching them.

The soldiers violently forced the residents out of their homes, and ordered them to stay in the cold, while they searched the residencies.

Eyewitnesses said that the soldiers inspected the ID cards of several residents, and compared them to lists they carried; no arrests were reported.

The invasion was carried out followed clashes between Israeli soldiers and dozens of youths near the Rachel Tomb, north of Bethlehem.

Palestinian Youth Killed By Israeli Fire In Ramall

Picture
Palestinian medical sources reported that a 17-year-old Palestinian was shot and killed by four rounds of live ammunition fired by Israeli soldiers at him as he walked near his school close to the Israeli Annexation Wall in Bodros village, west of the central West Bank city of Ramallah.

The slain young Palestinian has been identified as Samir Ahmad Abdul-Rahim, 17. He was shot as he and his schoolmates were leaving school.

Local sources reported that the army was heavily deployed in the school area, and repeatedly provoked dozens of students, an issue that led to clashes between the soldiers and some students.

The army then fired several rounds of live ammunition hitting Samir with several rounds to the head, chest and leg.

He was moved to a local hospital but succumbed to his serious injuries despite all attempts to save his life.

IOF soldiers beat father, arrest his son

Picture
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) attacked a father and his son while tending to their land in Azzun village, east of Qalqilia, on Monday night. Local sources said that the soldiers beat up the father and arrested his son at trivial pretexts.

They said that the father was hospitalized with moderate injuries, adding that the father and son were working in a field near to the separation wall.

Palestinian farmer seriously wounded in IOF shooting

Picture
A Palestinian farmer was seriously wounded in northern Gaza Strip on Monday after Israeli occupation forces (IOF) fired at him.

Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, the spokesman for the health ministry in Gaza, told the PIC reporter that 21-year-old Mustafa Abu Jarad was hit with a bullet in the head.

He said that the young man was tending to his land north of Beit Lahia town, north of the Gaza Strip, when the soldiers shot him.

The incident is yet another breach of the calm agreement between Israel and the Palestinian resistance factions that was brokered by Egypt.

IOF incursion in southern Gaza

Picture
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) raided southern Gaza Strip on Monday morning in a number of armored vehicles amidst random firing. The PIC reporter said that the IOF soldiers entered the Strip via Abu Reida gate to the east of Khan Younis.

He said that the soldiers escorted bulldozers that wreaked havoc on Palestinian cultivated land, adding that they opened intermittent fire at civilian property.

The IOF is trying to provoke Palestinian resistance fighters to retaliate to its continued violations of the calm agreement, observers believe.

IOF storms Palestinian towns, set-up military checkpoints in al-Khalil

Picture
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed several Palestinian towns in al-Khalil in the southern occupied West Bank, where they conducted military patrols, and erected several barriers at the entrances to the district.

Palestinian security sources confirmed to "Quds Press" that the IOF raided the towns of Beit Ula, Halhoul and Arroub, and conducted military patrols in the streets, and searched a number of Palestinian youths and vehicles.

IOF erected also military checkpoints at the entrances of al-Khalil and detained a number of vehicles and checked the bystanders' cards, where they pursued a number of Palestinian workers, south of al-Khalil, and prevented them from reaching their work places inside the occupied Palestinian territories, after the martyrdom of the young man Uday Drawish while on his way to his work.

Palestinian worker from Al-Khalil shot dead by IOF soldiers

Picture
Odai Kamel Daraweesh 21

Oday Al-Darawish, a Palestinian worker from Al-Khalil, was gunned down by Israeli occupation forces (IOF) south of the city on Saturday night.

Relatives told the PIC that IOF soldiers shot and killed 21-year-old Oday while trying to cross into 1948 occupied lands to look for work.

They said that Oday suffered serious injuries near the Mitar roadblock south of Al-Khalil and was arrested by the soldiers.

They said that the youth was taken to Soroka hospital in Beersheba where he was later pronounced dead.

Israeli army uses violence to evacuate Bab Ashams village in east J'lem

Picture
A large force of Israeli troops and border guards used violence at dawn Sunday to evacuate the Palestinian activists in the newly-established Bab Ashams village in east Jerusalem.

The Palestinian information center (PIC) reporter in occupied Jerusalem said that the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) brutally attacked the activists and detained many of them.

He added the detained Palestinian activists were taken in chain to Qalandiya checkpoint between Jerusalem and the West Bank and the wounded were admitted to Ramallah hospital.

Several foreign activists and journalists were also arrested and physically assaulted.

The Israeli higher court issued a verdict yesterday preventing the Israeli army or the police from evacuating the sit-in tents of Bab Ashams village which was set up by Palestinian and foreign activists in area E1.

The raid on the camp was carried out at the behest of Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu, according to a statement issued by his office yesterday.

The statement read that Netanyahu gave instructions to immediately evacuate the Palestinians present in the area between Maale Adumim and Jerusalem.

It added that the Israeli government would ask the higher court to revoke its decision to delay the evacuation of the camp, but until then the area would be declared a closed military zone and all roads leading to it would be blocked.

Earlier, the Hamas Movement called on the activists in the camp of Bab Ashams village to resist any Israeli attempt to evacuate them by force.

In a press release on Saturday, Hamas condemned the Israeli threats to attack the camp and said such step would be a violation of the international law and held Israel fully responsible for the consequences of its actions.
In this regard, Palestinian lawmaker Hatem Qafisha told the PIC that the idea of Bab Ashams village has become one of the new popular resistance methods and must be supported by all Palestinian political forces.

"But I think that the Israeli occupation may have noticed this method quickly and already moved to suppress it through declaring the area closed militarily and confronting the activists," MP Qafisha stated.

The lawmaker added that if such method was supported, there would be many areas in occupied Palestine like Bab Ashams village gaining national and international momentum.

He affirmed that many Palestinian areas need a similar village in order to protect them from the Israeli settlement activities.

The new village has been named after the epic novel Bab Ashams that was written by Lebanese writer Elias Khuri and means in English "the Gate of the Sun."

As part of the popular resistance movement in Palestine, the village was inaugurated Friday on a piece of Palestinian land in east Jerusalem, in an area referred to by Israel as E1 and designated for the expansion of Maale Adumim settlement.

Bedouin families living in the area confirmed that they own the lands which Israel wants to annex and even showed deeds proving their ownership.

The intended E1 settlement project aims at linking the illegal Maale Adumim settlement with east Jerusalem, thus illegally appropriating Palestinian lands and blocking the geographical contiguity of the occupied West Bank.

This illegal Israeli project, which received wide international condemnation, would divide the West Bank into two parts and completely isolate it from east Jerusalem, an action that would kill any chance to establish a future Palestinian state.

Palestinian Youth Killed By Israeli Fire In Gaza

Picture
Palestinian medical sources in the Gaza Strip reported that a Palestinian teenager was shot and killed by Israeli military fire, while another resident was wounded, east of Jabalia, in the northern part of the Gaza Strip.

The sources said that the slain youth, Mohammad Al-Mamlouk, 19, was seriously injured by live ammunition and died of his wounds at the Kamal Odwan hospital, the Palestine News Network (PNN) reported.

The other resident was moderately injured; he was admitted to surgery where the doctors extracted the bullet, and his health condition was described as moderate.

Eyewitnesses reported that Israeli soldiers, stationed across the border east of Jabalia, opened automatic fire at several Palestinian farmers working on the lands near the border fence, killing one and wounding another resident.

Part of the ceasefire agreement mediated by Egypt between the resistance in Gaza and Israel, the Israeli army was supposed to void the “buffer zone” along the border with Gaza.

By imposing this zone the army prevented hundreds of farmers from entering their farmlands located close to the border fence.

Four Palestinians have been killed in similar attacks that took place after the ceasefire agreement was reached, and dozens have been wounded.

The cease fire ended an 8-day war in November of last year during which Israeli missiles and shells killed 191 Palestinians, including children, women and elderly, while at least 1492 Palestinians have been injured, dozens seriously.

The Information Center of the Palestinian Ministry of Health Information reported that 48 children, including 16 under the age of five, have been killed by Israeli missiles and shells, in addition to 12 women and 20 elderly.

The Center added that 1492 Palestinians, including 533 children (195 under the age of 5), 254 women and 103 elderly have been injured by Israeli fire and shells. Furthermore, at least five Palestinians have been killed after the ceasefire agreement was reached, and 54 have been injured.

As part of the ceasefire agreement that ended the Israeli war on Gaza in November 2012, Palestinian fishermen were allowed to fish within 6 nautical miles off the Gaza coast. But the Israeli Navy continued to attack Palestinian fishermen leading to dozens of injuries.

Under the Oslo peace deal signed with Israel in the mid-nineties, Palestinian fishermen are supposed to be allowed to fish in 20 nautical miles off the Gaza coast.

After the second Intifada started in late September 2000 Israel prevented the fishermen from fishing, and then reduced their allotted area to only 3 nautical miles.

One Gazan killed, another seriously wounded in Israeli gunfire

One Palestinian young man was killed and another sustained serious wounds on Friday evening in Gaza when the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) opened fire at them. Local sources reported that the IOF stationed in the east of the martyrs' cemetery to the north of Gaza opened fire at a crowd of Palestinian civilians leading to the killing of Mohamed Al-Mamlouk and the injury of another.

This is considered one of many violations committed by Israel following the truce deal with the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.

Since the calm, Israel has killed three civilians and wounded many others, arrested about 30 fishermen off the coast of Gaza and destroyed and confiscated some boats.

Hamas: IDF soldiers kill Palestinian along Gaza border

IDF spokesman says soldiers opened fire after dozens of Palestinians approached the border fence in northern Gaza; victim identified as 21-year-old Anwar Al-Mamlouk, who was reportedly studying for an exam.

Israeli troops shot dead a Palestinian and seriously wounded another in the northern Gaza Strip near the border with Israel on Friday, the Islamist group Hamas and hospital officials said.

The Israeli military said the soldiers opened fire after dozens of Palestinians approached the border fence, an area Israel has long designated as off-limits to Gazans, citing past attempts to attack Israeli patrols along the frontier.

"The (Israel Defense Forces) will not tolerate any attempt to damage the security fence and harm Israel's sovereignty," a spokesman said.

Anwar Al-Mamlouk, 21, was in the outdoor area studying for an exam when he was killed, according to his brother Hani, who was not harmed in the incident.

The frontier has been relatively quiet since Israel and Hamas agreed on Nov. 21 to a ceasefire that ended eight days of fighting in which 170 Palestinians and six Israelis were killed.

Since the truce, three Palestinians have been shot dead by Israeli troops along the border.

IOF soldiers storm Bethlehem, close road south of Al-Khalil

Picture
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed a number of suburbs in Bethlehem city at dawn Saturday and closed a road to the south west of Al-Khalil.

Eyewitnesses told the PIC reporter in Bethlehem that IOF soldiers patrolled a number of suburbs in the city without anyone knowing reason for the step as it was not accompanied by any breaking into homes or arrests.

They said that the IOA patrols withdrew from the city after a few hours, adding that the tour could be for new intelligence elements wanting to explore the conditions in the city on the ground.

Meanwhile, local sources said that IOF units closed a main road to the south west of Al-Khalil city before Palestinian citizens on Saturday.

They said that soldiers closed a gate near Negohot settlement and prevented passage of Palestinian vehicles at the pretext of protecting Jewish settlers on Saturday, adding that citizens were forced to trek another longer road.

The locals pointed to intensified deployment of troops in the region and around the settlement as armored vehicles were positioned at nearby crossroads.

Dozens Injured In Bil’in As Army Attacks Weekly Protest

Picture
Bil'in - FFJ Media Center

The Popular Committee Against the Wall in Bil’in, near the central West Bank city of Ramallah, reported that dozens of protesters were treated for the effects of teargas inhalation after the army attacked local, Israeli and international peace activists conducting the weekly nonviolent protest against the Annexation Wall and Settlements.

The protest started following Friday noon prayers at the village’s mosque; the protesters marched carrying Palestinian flags and chanting slogans calling for unity, the removal of the wall and calling for more solidarity with the Palestinian political prisoners.

As the protesters reached the Abu Lemon area, adjacent to the Annexation Wall, some of them managed to remove some sections of the barbed-wire fence, just before the concrete wall; Israeli soldiers then fired rubber-coated metal bullets and also sprayed the protesters with wastewater mixed with chemicals and fired gas bombs at them; dozens were treated for the effects of teargas inhalation.

Clashes took place between the soldiers and the residents as the army chased dozens of youths in an attempt to kidnap them.

Four international supporters were arrested and many were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation when Israeli troops attacked the protesters in the nearby village of Nabi Saleh.

Soldiers stopped the protest at the village entrance, and fired tear gas and chemical water at protesters.

In the village of Kufur Qaddoum, near the northern West Bank city of Qalqilia, many villagers were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation when troops attacked the weekly anti wall protest at the village entrance.

At al Ma’sara village, near Bethlehem, Israeli troops stopped the weekly anti wall protest at the village entrance and forced the protesters back into the village using rifle butts and batons.

IOF attack W. Bank marches against wall and settlement

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) suppressed on Friday afternoon the peaceful marches organized against the segregation wall and settlement activities in different West Bank villages. One Palestinian young man named Muataz Tamimi sustained an injury from a rubber bullet fired by an Israeli soldier during the march in Nabi Saleh village, west of Ramallah city.

Local sources said the IOF prevented an ambulance from entering the area to take the injured young man and detained it at the southern entrance to the village.

Dozens of Palestinian and foreign activists also suffered tear gas suffocation during the march, which is staged weekly to protest Israel's annexation of the village's lands to expand the illegal settlement Hallamish.

The IOF also used wastewater to subdue the protestors before they sent soldiers to chase young men into the village.

Foreign activists from Sweden and Britain were detained by Israeli soldiers during the pursuit inside the village at the pretext they were present in a closed military zone.

In Masarah village south of Bethlehem, the IOF quelled the weekly march and prevented it from heading to the segregation wall.

The Israeli soldiers fired tear gas grenades and rubber bullets as the Palestinian young men and kids responded by throwing snowballs at them.

The IOF also attacked the anti-wall march of Bil'in village and the march of Kafr Qaddum that demands an end to the closure of the main road of the village.

Under the Oslo peace deal signed with Israel in the mid-nineties, Palestinian fishermen are supposed to be allowed to fish in 20 nautical miles off the Gaza coast.
