Bardawil: Resistance factions take Israeli threats seriously

Dr. Salah Al-Bardawil, a Hamas leader, has said that Palestinian resistance factions were taking Israeli threats to invade Gaza seriously.
Bardawil was quoted by Rai news agency on Tuesday as saying that the resistance factions are working day and night to confront any such military adventure.
He opined, however, that Israeli chief of staff Benny Gantz’s threats to attack Gaza were psychological warfare.
The Hamas leader ruled out an imminent Israeli war on Gaza, explaining that regional developments and Israeli fear of resistance impede such an aggression.
Bardawil said that Palestinian factions were still abiding by the calm agreement brokered by Egypt and were monitoring Israeli violations and reporting them to the Egyptian patron of the agreement.

Resistance fends off Israeli soldiers north Gaza

The Palestinian resistance on Monday evening repelled an Israeli military incursion into the east of Beit Hanoun district in northern Gaza.
Eyewitnesses told Quds Press that a force of foot soldiers infiltrated dozens of meters into Beit Hanoun, but resistance fighters fired a hail of mortar shells at them forcing them to draw back and leave the area.
They said that the invading soldiers reached an area between the memorial site and the transmission site east of Beit Hanoun when they were spotted by a group of resistance fighters.
Earlier, the Brigades of Martyr Abu Ali Mustafa, the armed wing of the popular front for the liberation of Palestine, claimed responsibility for opening fire at an Israeli military force in Beit Hanoun, but it is still unknown if the same Brigades launched the mortar counterattack.
This Israeli military incursion is one of many violations that have been committed by Israel since it accepted an Egyptian-brokered truce and ended its wanton war in November 2012.
The Israeli army has violated the truce many times since then killing four Palestinians, wounding several others, kidnapping about 40 fishermen and destroying many fishing boats off the coast of Gaza.

Residents also told Ma'an that Israeli forces raided the nearby Jalqamus and al-Yamoun villages, setting up checkpoints at the villages' entrance and stationing near Yaba's eastern border.
An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed three of the four detentions. At least five Palestinians were detained by Israeli forces across the West Bank on Monday.
Three Palestinians were detained in the Aida refugee camp in Bethlehem. A local source identified them as Murad Karaja, 20, Ahmad Hajajra 21, and Ahmad Amer, 21. A resident said Hajajra's mother was taken to hospital after collapsing during the raid.

Haneyya gov’t asks Egypt to restrain Israeli provocation

The Gaza government of Ismail Haneyya has categorically denied Israeli allegations that elements from Gaza infiltrated into the Egyptian Sinai desert and fired rockets at Eilat.
Taher Al-Nunu, the government’s spokesman, said in a terse statement on Sunday that the remarks by Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu constituted clear provocation against the Gaza Strip.
Nunu asked the “brothers in Egypt” to intervene and end such provocation and restrain the Israeli aggressive intentions against the coastal enclave.

Abu Zuhri: Israel’s threats reflect its criminal nature

Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman in Gaza, said that Israel’s threats to invade the Gaza Strip reflected the criminal nature of its new coalition government.
The spokesman told Quds Press on Sunday that the threats against Gaza reflected that new government’s program of escalation against the Palestinian people and its policy of aggression, murder, and destruction.
Abu Zuhri, however, said that Israeli threats did not terrorize the Palestinian people or Hamas movement, adding that the Palestinian factions would defend the people with all available means.
He asked the regional and international parties concerned to intervene and bridle the Israeli escalation.
Israeli officials have been voicing threats over the past few weeks to launch a new war on the coastal enclave at the pretext that Palestinian factions were recurrently violating the calm agreement brokered by Egypt last November.

Israel to 'exact price' for Eilat rocket attack

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday vowed Israel would "exact a price" from the Gaza militants who recently fired missiles from Sinai at the southern resort city of Eilat.
"Last week missiles were fired from Sinai at Eilat," Netanyahu said at the start of his weekly cabinet meeting shortly before the arrival of US Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel for a three-day visit.
"Those who fired them are apparently a terror squad that departed Gaza and used the territory of Sinai to attack an Israeli city.
"We will not accept this and we will exact a price -- this has been our consistent policy the past four years and it will serve us in this case as well," he said in remarks relayed by his bureau.
On Wednesday, militants fired two rockets from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula at Eilat which hit inside the city but caused no casualties.
The attack was claimed by a Gaza-based Salafi group called the Mujahedeen Shura Council, which has in recent months fired rockets from Gaza into Israel.
The security situation in Sinai was likely to be one of the topics raised in Netanyahu's talks with Hagel when the two meet on Tuesday, press reports said.
Eilat has been hit by intermittent rocket fire from Sinai over the past few years. The last attack was in August 2012 when militants from another Salafist group called Ansar Beit al-Maqdis fired two rockets at the city without causing injuries.
Since the ouster of former Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak in February 2011, Israel's border with Sinai has seen multiple security incidents, with militants using the lawless peninsula to stage attacks.
There has also been an uptick in rocket fire from Gaza in the last two months, with several attacks claimed by Salafist militants.
Israel police said another rocket hit southern Israel overnight without causing casualties or damage. There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
Until the end of February, the Israel-Gaza border was completely quiet after an Egyptian-brokered truce ended eight days of deadly fighting between Israel and militants from Gaza's ruling Hamas movement.
For the most part, Israel has responded with restraint, staging only one night of air strikes on Gaza on April 3, which caused no injuries.

Hamas MP warns of new Israeli war on Gaza with American blessing

A Hamas MP has warned of an American green light to Israel to launch a new war on the Gaza Strip in light of recent Israeli fiery remarks.
Israeli war minister Moshe Yalon had threatened to launch a new military operation against Gaza and to strike with an “iron fist” in the event rockets continued to be fired from the coastal enclave.
Yalon’s threats come after similar remarks by his chief of staff Benny Gantz less than a week ago in which he threatened a new war on Gaza in the event “violations of the calm agreement persisted”.
Hamas MP Ismail Al-Ashqar told Quds Press on Saturday that his movement was taking those threats seriously.
He said that Hamas believed that the US was giving Israel a green light to go ahead in such an aggression, which usually leads to the killing of children and women. He said that the Israeli occupation was criminal by nature and is accustomed to committing war crimes and to killing innocent children and women.
The lawmaker blamed the world community for not bringing to account the Israeli war criminals who launched the 2008-2009 aggression and the latest war last year, adding that such a position encourages Israel to launch new attacks.
Ashqar warned Israel that it would pay a heavy price for any such “military adventure”, adding that the threats did not terrorize the Palestinian people or resistance.
The head of the interior and security committee at the Palestinian legislative council said that the world knows the “terrorist history” of both Yalon and Gantz.
The MP, however, said that the world has changed after the Arab Spring revolutions and would not allow Israel to strike anew then get away with it.

IOF soldiers fire at Palestinian ambulance vehicle
Israeli occupation forces (IOF) fired at a Palestinian ambulance vehicle while extending medical assistance to a family in Al-Khader village, Bethlehem province, on Wednesday night. Abdulhalim Jafara, the spokesman for Bethlehem Red Crescent ambulance service, told Quds Press that IOF soldiers intentionally fired rubber bullets at the ambulance vehicle.
He said that the front window of the vehicle was smashed in the attack which meant that the ambulance crews could not help members of a family who were victims of the IOF teargas attack in the village.
Jafara strongly condemned the attack that came in violation of international laws that provided protection for ambulance cars and prohibited any hindrance to their work or attacking them.
He affirmed that the attack was deliberate as the vehicle carried clear signs at all sides indicating that it was an ambulance vehicle.
The spokesman said that 21 citizens suffered from breathing problems including five of one family as a result of the IOF teargas attack on the village.

Israeli forces shoot and injure Palestinian man in central Gaza Strip

Israeli forces have shot and injured a young Palestinian man in the central Gaza Strip, Press TV reports.
Palestinian medical sources said the 32-year-old victim was hit in the chest in the al-Bureij refugee camp late on Tuesday.
Medics added that the wounded Palestinian was in moderate condition in hospital.
On April 11, a physically disabled Palestinian man was arrested by Israeli troops after being shot and wounded in the southern West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron).
Motazz Obeidu, 32, was seriously injured after Israeli forces attacked his shop, according to a prisoners' rights group and local residents.
The Israeli army confirmed the arrest and the shooting, and claimed that the Palestinian had acted “violently.” An army spokeswoman accused Obeidu of “throwing an axe, a gas canister and a wheelbarrow at soldiers, injuring two of them."
But the Ramallah-based Prisoners Club said the victim was "physically disabled," and held the Israeli regime responsible for the man’s life.
Gaza has been blockaded since June 2007, which is a situation that has caused a decline in the standard of living, unprecedented levels of unemployment, and unrelenting poverty.
The apartheid regime of Israel denies about 1.7 million people in Gaza their basic rights, such as freedom of movement, jobs that pay proper wages, and adequate healthcare and education.
UN Humanitarian Coordinator James W. Rawley said on April 10 that a new round of Israeli sanctions on the blockaded Gaza Strip is impacting food supplies and would have "serious" effects if continued.
"Israel has announced a series of heightened restrictions on the movement of people and goods to and from the Gaza Strip, including closures of the Kerem Shalom crossing," he said in a statement.
Rawley warned, "These measures are resulting in the depletion of stocks of essential supplies, including basic foodstuffs and cooking gas, and undermine the livelihoods and rights of many vulnerable Gazan families."
"If these restrictions continue, the effect upon the Gaza population will be serious," he stated.
Palestinian man wounded in IOF shooting in central Gaza
A Palestinian man was wounded on Tuesday evening when Israeli occupation forces (IOF) opened machinegun fire at Palestinian fields and houses in the central Gaza Strip. Quds Press said that IOF soldiers in military watchtowers opened machinegun fire at houses in Breij refugee camp and at famers in nearby fields wounding the man.
Dr. Ashraf Al-Qudra, the health ministry’s spokesman, said that the 34-year-old man was hit with a bullet in his chest, describing his condition as stable.
The incident is the latest in a series of IOF violations of the calm agreement signed with Palestinian resistance factions in Gaza under Egyptian patronage in November last year.

IOF suppresses peaceful march commemorating the Nakba in Jerusalem

Israeli occupation forces (IOF) suppressed on Tuesday a Palestinian peaceful march in the occupied city of Jerusalem to commemorate the sixty-fifth anniversary of the Nakba.
Jerusalemite sources reported that Israeli soldiers and policemen attacked a peaceful march launched on Tuesday from the Salah al-Din Street, east of Jerusalem, to commemorate the Nakba anniversary with the participation of dozens of Jerusalemite youths who chanted slogans against the occupation.
The occupation military forces dispersed the masses of marchers and arrested five of them. Three of the detainees were subsequently released, while the Israeli forces extended the detention of two others pending further investigation.
The occupied city of Jerusalem has been witnessing security tension that has recently increased after large groups of Jewish settlers announced that they will organize a series of raids into Al-Aqsa Mosque to perform Talmudic prayers in its courtyards.
