An elderly Palestinian man has succumbed to the coronavirus disease in the West Bank, making him victim number 67 since the outbreak of the pandemic in Palestine in early March, the Ministry of Health said this morning.
It said the 79-year-old victim was from the town of Beit Ummar, north of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, the current epicenter of the disease and where the majority of the latest corona-related deaths came from.
Other than the three corona deaths in East Jerusalem and one in Gaza, the rest are in the West Bank.
Over 400 coronavirus cases in West Bank, two deaths in last 24 hours – Health Ministry
A total of 403 new cases of coronavirus and two deaths were confirmed in the West Bank in the last 24 hours raising the total number of cases in Palestine to 10923, today said the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
It said 40 of the patients are in intensive care in hospitals and four are on respirators.
While 11 cases in the West Bank have recovered for a total of 2106, the overall active cases in Palestine stood at 8750, said the ministry.
With the two new corona-related deaths, total deaths since March is now 67, among them 63 in the West Bank, three in East Jerusalem and one in the Gaza Strip.
The Ministry said that out of the new 403 cases, 91 were in East Jerusalem, 49 in the Ramallah district with only seven in the city, and 119 in the Hebron district, including 26 in the city and 29 in the town of Idna. Hebron district has the highest number of cases with over 5000.
Nablus city had 19 new cases and Aqbat Jabr refugee camp in Jericho had 23.

Palestine Monday evening confirmed a new novel coronavirus fatality, raising the death total since the pandemic outbreak in the occupied territories to 66.
The Health Ministry announced in a press release that a 73-year-old man died of the pandemic in the town of Sa‘ir, northeast of Hebron.
Earlier today, the Health Ministry confirmed 468 new cases of coronavirus in the occupied territories during the past 24 hours.
The ministry said 40 patients are currently in intensive care units, including three placed on respirators, while there were no reports of recoveries.
According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 10,520.
Out of the 10,520 cases, 8,842 are recorded in the West Bank, 74 in the Gaza Strip and 1,604 in East Jerusalem.
Recoveries have totaled 2,095, including 174 in East Jerusalem, leaving a total of 8,359 active cases.

Two Palestinian civilians were injured, on Saturday, and many others choked on tear-gas fired by the Israeli forces, at a nonviolent protest in the village of Beita, Palestinian WAFA News Agency reported.
WAFA correspondent stated that Palestinians held a demonstration, south of Nablus City in the northern occupied West Bank, to express their total rejection of illegal Israeli settlement activities.
Israeli forces fired rubber-coated steel rounds, stun grenades and tear-gas canisters to suppress the peaceful protesters, at least one was shot and injured by a rubber-coated steel round in his left arm.
Another protester was wounded, suffering severe bruising, when he was run over by Israeli soldiers who were chasing protesters. Both were transferred to Rafidia Public Hospital in Nablus for necessary treatment.
Other protesters, including medics, suffered the toxic effects of tear-gas inhalation.
The Jerusalem Press identified the Palestinian injured by a steel round as Ayoub Hamyal, 32, and added that a paramedic from the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) suffered the effects of tear-gas inhalation.
It also noted that the concussion grenades and tear-gas canisters started fires in some areas of agricultural fields.
Palestinian factions called for demonstrations to confront the attempts by illegal Israeli settlers to expropriate Palestinian land.
