Palestine today recorded a new novel coronavirus fatality, raising the death toll in the occupied territories since the pandemic spread to 55.
The Health Ministry announced that a 77-year-old Palestinian man from al-Ram town, northeast of Jerusalem died due to the highly contagious virus.
According to the latest coronavirus data, the confirmed cases in the occupied territories (West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza) reached 8,616.
Out of the 8,616 cases, 7,340 are recorded in the West Bank, 72 in the Gaza Strip and 1,204 in East Jerusalem.
Recoveries have totaled 1,487, including 174 in East Jerusalem, leaving a total of 7,074 active cases.

Palestine Friday noon recorded 436 new coronavirus cases and 179 recovery cases in the occupied territories in the last 24 hours.
The Health Ministry confirmed in a report that 439 Palestinians tested positive for the highly contagious virus and 179 others recovered from it in the last 24 hours (from Thursday noon to Friday noon).
The 439 new cases included 87 cases in Jerusalem district, five others in Ramallah and al-Bireh district, 319 others in Hebron district, four others in Salfit district, four others in Jenin district, seven others in Nablus district, six others in Jericho and the Jordan Valley, two others in Qalqiliya district and five others in Tubas district.
Besides, the ministry pointed out that six Palestinians died due to the highly contagious virus in the last 24 hours. Three of the six fatalities were recorded Thursday evening, two others on Thursday night, and another on today morning.
Among the new 179 recovery cases, 174 cases were recorded in Hebron district and five others in the besieged Gaza Strip.
The ministry added that 16 Palestinian COVID-19 patients were still in the intensive care unit, including five connected to ventilators.

It said an 83-year-old woman and a 76-year-old man from the city of Hebron in the south of the West Bank have died of the coronavirus disease raising the total number of fatalities in Palestine since March to 49, including 45 from the West Bank, three from East Jerusalem and one from the Gaza Strip.

East Jerusalem had 115 new cases in the last 24 hours, out of 147 for the whole district, Ramallah city had 15 cases out of 44 for the whole governorate, Hebron city had 40 cases out of 182 for the whole governorate, the current epicenter of the coronavirus pandemic, and Bethlehem district 51 cases.
The rest are divided among other West Bank districts.

Data by the Ministry of Health for the last 24 hours showed that, and for the first time, a sharp surge in coronavirus cases were recorded in Ramallah city, the de facto capital of the Palestinian Authority, with 48 confirmed cases, and 135 cases in the Ramallah governorate in general, including the city.
The data showed that 419 people have tested positive for the coronavirus disease in the West Bank in general, raising the total in Palestine to 8153, and two deaths, raising total to 47.
The data also showed that 170 patients have recovered in the West Bank in the last 24 hours, 140 of them in the Hebron district, raising the total of recoveries in Palestine to 1487.
According to the Ministry, 17 patients are in the intensive care unit in hospitals, six of them are on respirators.
