Israeli forces injured at least 46 Palestinians during demonstrations in the Gaza Strip on Friday, including 17 by live fire, hours after Israeli naval forces opened fire at fishing boats off the coast.
Israeli forces injured at least 46 Palestinians during demonstrations in the Gaza Strip on Friday, including 17 by live fire, hours after Israeli naval forces opened fire at fishing boats off the coast. Spokesperson of the Gaza Ministry of Health, Ashraf al-Qidra, said that 17 Palestinians were injured by live fire including a youth hit in the foot during clashes near the Erez crossing in the northern Gaza Strip.
A medic was also injured in the hand when Israeli forces targeted a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance with live fire in the al-Farrahin area in eastern Khan Younis.
Al-Qidra added that 19 were injured by rubber-coated steel bullets and burns sustained from being hit by tear gas canisters. Ten more demonstrators suffered tear gas inhalation.
The injured were taken to nearby hospitals.
Locals told Ma’an News Agency that the demonstrations erupted in protest of the recent killing of Palestinians by Israeli forces in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank, as well as in support of an intifada. An Israeli army spokesperson said that "throughout the day several riots took place on the Gaza border," adding that hundreds of Palestinians attempted to "breach the security fence."
The spokesperson said that Israeli forces opened fire "in order to stop infiltration that would gravely endanger the safety of communities nearby."
Demonstrations in solidarity with Palestinians across occupied Palestinian territory have taken place in the besieged strip on a weekly basis this month.
At least 15 Gazans have been killed by Israeli forces during the demonstrations.
Two Palestinians, a two-year-old and her pregnant mother, were also killed in an Israeli airstrike on their home this month.
Earlier on Friday, Gaza's Ministry of Interior said that Israeli naval forces fired shells at the northern Gaza Strip, damaging land belonging to farmers near Gaza City.
An Israeli army spokesperson had no reports of shelling, but said that Israeli naval forces fired warning shots into the air when vessels "breached a fishing zone in the northern Gaza Strip," adding that the vessels turned back after the warning shots.
Friday's events came after a leader of Hamas -- the governing political power in the Gaza Strip -- said Tuesday that the Palestinians need a national strategy to "protect and escalate" what it termed the "Jerusalem uprising."
Ismail Haniyeh said from Lebanon that the recent upsurge in resistance had "shuffled the cards and hit defeatists.” He also criticized international negotiations for "providing cover to the Israeli occupation."
Ongoing violence has left at least 65 Palestinians and nine Israelis dead since the beginning of the month.

Palestinian Doctors in Europe on Thursday evening called on the European parliament to take urgent steps to stop Israeli aggressions on the Palestinian people and medical crews.
Palestinian Doctors condemned Israeli attacks on the Palestinian medics and paramedics as they provided assistance for casualties and civilians shot and injured in the ongoing Jerusalem Intifada.
The group’s chairman Mondher Rajab said in a press statement: “We cannot turn blind eyes and deaf ears to the flagrant violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces and settler gangs.”
“All stakeholders and decision-makers everywhere in the world have to assume their responsibilities vis-à-vis such Israeli attacks on the Palestinian people,” he said. “This is just a historic, ethical, and humanitarian duty.”
Head of the foreign and academic affairs at the Palestinian Doctors group, Nizar Badran, urged the chairwoman of the Palestinian committee in the European Parliament, Martina Anderson, along with other MEPs to take up their allotted missions in defending international laws and standing up for Palestinians’ inalienable rights.
Earlier, on Wednesday the Palestine Medics and Pharmacists association in Germany filed a petition to the Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, the Parliament Speaker, and the Minister of Health, urging the state government to urgently step in and work on protecting medical and paramedical teams in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The Palestinian Healthy Ministry kept record of over 200 attacks, by the Israeli occupation army, on emergency and ambulance crews since the start of October.
The association further pushed for lifting the Rafah border crossing so as to allow Palestinians from the blockaded Gaza Strip to undergo urgent medical therapy and facilitate hospitals’ access to urgently-needed medical kit.

Head of the ministry's pharmacy unit Munir al-Barsh told a news conference held in Gaza on Monday that the crisis of insufficient medicines and medical consumables has escalated since the beginning of the current year and adversely affected the health services provided in Gaza.
Barsh explained that with the failure to replenish the health sector's medicinal stock in Gaza, the items of zero balance totaled at the end of last September 149 types of medicines and 357 disposable materials.

The Red Crescent Society (RCS) documented on Sunday 53 attacks by the Israeli occupation army against its teams and ambulances in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem since the start of the al-Quds Intifada earlier this month.
A report by the RCS said 37 emergency medical technicians were wounded and around 20 ambulances were damaged by the Israeli occupation soldiers since early October, when the latest round of attacks by the Israeli occupation army against Palestinians reached an uptick.
There are 24 cases in which RCS’ ambulances were hindered and prevented from reaching wounded Palestinians near seam zones.
The majority of attacks took place in occupied Jerusalem.
According to the RCS these violations aim at hindering the work of its teams and preventing them from carrying out their humanitarian duty, including reaching injured persons, providing them with First Aid and ensuring their transfer to hospitals. This has increased the suffering of injured persons and their families.
The attacks also constitute a grave breach of IHL provisions which stipulate that National Societies, such as the Red Crescent, must be allowed to provide humanitarian services to those in need. Moreover, the Israeli occupation army has infringed the four Geneva Conventions by arresting Palestinians from inside PRCS’ ambulances in a crying violation of the sanctity of ambulances and of the Society’s emblem, as well as of the right of the wounded to access medical care.
The Fourth Geneva Convention in particular stipulates that the occupying power should assure access to medical services and medical personnel. These violations have forced the wounded to seek alternative means of traveling to hospitals, exacerbating their wounds and endangering their lives.
RCS called on the international community represented by political, humanitarian and relief organizations, to take practical measures to compel the occupying power to cease all attacks and violations against the wounded civilians along with RCS’ ambulances and teams.

Several Palestinian hospitals in occupied Jerusalem have been the frequent target by the Israeli soldiers, who do not only attack ambulances and medics, but are also invading the medical centers, including their Urgent Care units, in Jerusalem and the rest of the West Bank.
On Saturday, the soldiers assaulted many Palestinian medics in Bab al-'Amoud in occupied Jerusalem, after the army killed one Palestinian and wounded dozens with rubber-coated steel bullets.
After attacking medics and ambulances, the army invaded the al-Makassed and Augusta Victoria Hospitals in occupied Jerusalem, and searched them for wounded Palestinians.
Similar attacks took place in September and the beginning of this month.
In the recent invasion into al-Makassed hospital, the soldiers were deployed at the entrance of the Urgent Care Unit, and started searching ambulances, in addition to searching private cars and cabs, and also invaded and ransacked the Urgent Care Unit.
Just a couple of hundred meters away, the soldiers invaded Augusta Victoria Hospital, and searched several sections and rooms, including the Operations Room and Urgent Care.
A week ago, the soldiers closed the main gate of al-Makassed, held many medics and ambulances for more than thirty minutes, under gunpoint and threat of death.
They also kidnapped a wounded Palestinian, from the al-‘Eesawiyya town in Jerusalem, after forcibly removing him from the ambulance that was rushing him to hospital.
September also witnessed various attacks, including an invasion into the al-Makassed Hospital, when the soldiers inspected all admission records to look for wounded Palestinians, in addition to searching patients’ rooms, offices and X-ray departments.
Palestinian Health Minister, Dr. Jawad Awwad, strongly denounced the Israeli invasions into Al-Makassed and Augusta Victoria, and all violations against medics and medical centers.

The Palestinian health ministry has warned that the dialysis machine service provided for kidney patients in its hospital might stop due to an acute shortage of spare filters and blood transfusion tubes.
Head of the ministry's pharmacy department in Gaza Munir al-Barsh stated in a press release on Monday that the ministry has insufficient dialysis machine filters and tubes, so it would be difficult for it to provide 544 kidney patients, including 22 children, with the service.
Barsh said that the ministry in Ramallah had been contacted several times since the beginning of the current year to urge it to provide its hospital in Gaza with the consumables needed for dialysis machines.
He appealed to health and human rights groups to work on providing the hospitals in Gaza with enough quantities of dialysis supplies in order to avoid an unprecedented health disaster threatening the lives of the kidney patients.
