IOA halts construction of park, 8 houses in Bethlehem
Picture
Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) on Monday ordered a halt to the construction of 8 Palestinian houses and a park in Nahalin town in the West Bank district of Bethlehem.

Deputy mayor of Nahalin Hani Fannoun said that the IOA distributed stop-work notices against a park and 8 Palestinian houses, some of which are already inhabited.

He said the IOA claimed the structures are being built without Israeli license.

According to Fannoun, the IOA repeatedly threatens to demolish existing homes or orders a halt to the construction of new ones under various pretexts in an attempt to empty the area of Palestinian residents and clear the way for new settlement projects.

Israeli settlers steal seedlings and agricultural tools from Palestinian plants nursery
Picture
Israeli settlers today stole seedlings and agricultural tools from a Palestinian plants nursery located on the Nablus-Tulkarm road in the north of the West Bank, reported Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian official monitoring Israeli settlement activities.

He said surveillance cameras documented settlers breaking into the nursery and steeling plants, pipes and other tools before running away.

Palestinian farmer ordered by Israel to stop building an agricultural structure in his land
Picture
The Israeli army today ordered a Palestinian farmer to stop construction of an agricultural structure in his land in Sahl al-Buqeiah, south of the Jordan Valley city of Tubas, according to a local rights defender.

Aref Daraghme said soldiers broke into the village and ordered a local resident to stop the construction under the pretext he does not have a building permit.

The area is classified as C, which is under full Israeli military rule and where Israel does not allow any Palestinian development.

Israel plans to annex the Jordan Valley, a step that has provoked local and international criticism and warning.

IOF razes Palestinian prisoner’ home in W. Bank town of Kobar
Violent clashes broke out at dawn Monday after the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) embarked on demolishing a house belonging to the family of Palestinian prisoner Qassam al-Barghouthi in Kobar town in Ramallah. video

According to local sources, the events started after Israeli troops aboard military vehicles and bulldozers stormed Kobar town and started to knock down a house belonging to the family of prisoner Barghouthi. video

The IOF showered angry young men in the town with rubber bullets and a volley of tear gas and stun grenades, wounding one of them in his face.

A military jeep also caught fire when local youths hurled fire bombs at it during the events. video

The IO had notified the prisoner’s family last February of its intent to demolish its two-story home.
Prisoner Barghouthi was kidnaped by the IOF in September last year and was exposed to harsh interrogation and physical torture at the hands of Israeli officers.

He has been accused of being a member of the resistance group that carried out a bombing operation in August 2019 at Ein Bubin spring near the illegal settlement of Dolev in the occupied West Bank.

One Jewish settler was killed and two others sustained injuries in the bombing incident.

EU to debate punishing Israel over annexation plans
Picture
The European Union's Foreign Affairs Commission is expected to debate taking punitive measures against Israel should it push forward with its plans to annex parts of the occupied West Bank and the Jordan Valley.

Israel Hayom newspaper said that EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell is the one pushing for sanctions, claiming that Borrell, a Spanish diplomat, is known for his animosity toward Israel.

‘The EU's charter states that all major foreign policy decisions can be made only by a consensus among the bloc's 27 member-states. It is therefore believed that Israel's allies in the EU – Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and the Czech Republic – will block any major punitive action Borrell may try to promote,” the newspaper pointed out.

Currently, Sweden, Ireland and Luxembourg are pushing for the harshest response, namely suspending the EU-Israel Association Agreement, which regulates the relations between the two countries.

Another potential measure will exclude Israel from Horizon Europe, an ambitious EU research and innovation framework slated to run between 2021 and 2027, according to the newspaper.

“A third scenario may see the EU pull out of the open skies agreement with Israel, which it has yet to ratify,” the newspaper expressed its belief, adding that such scenarios would lead to a significant economic impact on Israel.

The EU's foreign ministers are expected to debate the issue in their next meeting, scheduled for next Thursday.

Israeli gunboats attack fishermen, their boats in Gaza waters
Picture
The Israeli occupation navy on Sunday morning opened fire at Palestinian fishermen and their boats off the northern coast of the besieged Gaza Strip.

A local committee documenting Israeli violations against Gaza fishermen said that Israeli gunboats opened machinegun fire at fishing boats off the shore of Gaza City.

The committee added that the Israeli naval forces confiscated one fishing boat and caused damage to nets of other boats during the attack.

Last year, the Israeli naval forces kidnaped 35 fishermen — nine of them still in detention —wounded 22 others, confiscated 15 fishing boats, caused total or partial damage to 54 boats, and carried out 24 attacks on coastal areas where fishing boats normally gather.

Jewish settlers cut down olive trees near Ramallah
Picture
Extremist Jewish settlers today chopped down around 40 olive trees belonging to Palestinians in the village of Al-Mughayyir, near the city of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank, local sources said.

The trees belonged to two Palestinian villagers from Al-Mughayyir.

Israeli soldiers who were patrolling the scene reportedly prevented the two villagers from entering their farm and inspecting the damaged trees.

Settler violence is commonplace across the occupied West Bank, and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities as the Palestinian Authority has no jurisdiction over Israeli Jewish settlers.

Palestinians and rights groups have repeatedly blamed Israel for fostering a “culture of impunity” for Jewish settlers committing acts of violence against Palestinians.

Palestinian premier says banks will continue to handle prisoners’ accounts despite Israeli threats
Picture
Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh said yesterday that banks operating in Palestine will continue to handle accounts of prisoners despite Israeli threats against the banks.

His statement came after the banks decided to stop handling these accounts after Israel has passed a law in which it would take action against the banks that manage accounts for prisoners serving time in Israel for resisting its occupation.

Israel has already seized millions of dollars from the tax revenues its collects on the behalf of the Palestinian Authority (PA) on goods arriving at its ports and destined to the Palestinian territories which it claimed amount to the sums the PA pays the prisoners and their families every month.

Shtayyeh said that his office has reached an agreement with the banks to freeze their action until a committee established to look into this matter presents its recommendation.

The committee was set up last week and includes the Palestinian Monetary Authority (PMA), the Prisoners’ Affairs Commission, the Association of Banks in Palestine and the Ministry of Finance. It is expected to present its recommendations next week.

The PMA also said in a statement that the decision of the banks’ association regarding closing the accounts of the prisoners last week was done without its knowledge and in violation of its procedures and instructions.

It said the committee established by the Prime Minister has begun its work on assessing the risks facing the accounts of the families of the prisoners and the implications of the Israeli military order on the operating banks.

The PMA also condemned attacks at bank branches in the West Bank following their decision to close the accounts of the prisoners.

It said that this matter should be dealt with wisely in a way to prevent an Israeli seizure of money from the banks as it did in 2004 when soldiers raided several banks and seized money Israel claimed was for organizations it deemed as illegal.

Israeli forces attempt to remove a Palestinian anti-corona post in south of West Bank
Picture
Israeli soldiers apparently not happy with the sight of a Palestinian flag attacked a post set up by local volunteers to check people for coronavirus in the village of Khillet al-Mayeh, in Masafer Yatta in the south of the West Bank, according to local activist.

Activist Rateb Jabour, from the Anti-Wall, Anti-Settlements Popular Committee in Yatta, told WAFA that the soldiers attacked the post in an attempt to remove a Palestinian flag raised at the post.

The volunteers confronted the soldiers and prevented them from interfering in their work or removing the flag, he said.
