A senior member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) has censured Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to build hundreds of new settler units in the occupied West Bank as “irrational colonial escalation.”
“Corrupt Netanyahu proves that his extremist populist approach in his electoral race has no limits, and for that end, he is willing to wage wars and blow up the entire region,” Hanan Ashrawi, a member of the PLO's executive committee, said in a statement released on Monday.
She then accused Netanyahu of trying to win votes of settlers by stealing Palestinian land and resources in violation of international law.
Ashrawi further noted that such colonial behavior has been progressive and systematic ever since the occupying regime of Israel was formed back in 1948, and is based primarily on the policy of ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, theft of land, resources and property, and the breach of international law and regulations, with the full political, legal and financial support of the United States.
“It is time to impose sanctions on Israel, and to hold it accountable for its deliberate violation of international law and resolutions in addition to humanitarian principles and values,” she concluded.
Earlier in the day, Netanyahu said he has instructed his staff to prepare plans for building 300 new housing units in Dolev settlement, located 27 kilometers (17 miles) northwest of Jerusalem al-Quds.
He said the move comes in response to a purported bombing attack on Friday, which claimed the life of a 17-year-old Israeli girl and wounded her brother and father.
More than 600,000 Israelis live in over 230 settlements built since the 1967 Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East Jerusalem al-Quds.
The UN Security Council has condemned Israel’s settlement activities in the occupied territories in several resolutions.
Less than a month before US President Donald Trump took office, the United Nations Security Council in December 2016 adopted Resolution 2334 [pdf], calling on Israel to “immediately and completely cease all settlement activities in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem” al-Quds.
Palestinians want the West Bank as part of a future independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem al-Quds as its capital.
The last round of Israeli-Palestinian talks collapsed in 2014. Among the major sticking points in those negotiations was Israel’s continued settlement expansion on Palestinian territories.

Israeli bulldozers on Monday demolished a house and a restaurant in al-Makhour area northwest of Beit Jala in Bethlehem governorate, under the pretext of building without permits.
According to Hassan Brejiya, head of the Wall and Settlement Resistance Committee in Bethlehem, Israeli occupation forces, called for reinforcement at the entrance of al-Makhour before they began demolishing a restaurant and a house belonging to Ramzi Qaisiyya. video
Brejiya condemned the demolition and accused the occupation authorities of emptying the area in favor of expanding the settlement project.
Several weeks ago, settlers set up tents near the area, in a move to build a settlement outpost, he said.
The owner of the demolished property said that IOF last week handed him a notice to demolish the restaurant and the house, and since then they have been suffering and a very difficult life, pointing out that the restaurant has been demolished twice in the past, under the same pretext.
Qaisiyya added that the family took out the contents of the house and the restaurant, with the area closed to the entry and exit of citizens.
The Israeli occupation forces prevent Palestinians from building in Area C, which they control under the Oslo II agreement signed between the Palestinian Authority and Israel in 1995. Area C represents 61 percent of the West Bank.

The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Sunday blocked the western entrance to Ramallah city in the West Bank and deployed road barriers, causing a heavy build-up of traffic.
Eyewitnesses told Anadolu news agency that the IOF closed the road leading to Palestinian villages in the west of Ramallah and searched passing Palestinian vehicles without allowing them to use the road.
The IOF also raided several commercial stores in Palestinian villages in the west of Ramallah and confiscated security camera recordings from them.
The IOF intensified its security measures in the West Bank, especially in Ramallah, after one female settler was killed and two others were injured last Friday in an attack with an explosive device near the illegal settlement of Dolev.

The United Nations (UN) says the Israel has demolished two dozen Palestinian buildings and structures across the occupied West Bank in less than two months.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a new report, excerpts of which were carried by Palestinian Information Center on Sunday, that Israeli authorities demolished 24 Palestinian buildings and structures across the occupied region between July 30 and August 19.
The OCHA said that the recent demolitions displaced nine people and affected at least 80 other Palestinians, adding that the number of people displaced by such demolitions had amounted to at least 480 people so far this year, more than the 472 Palestinians displaced in the entire 2018.
According to the report, within the reported period, 10 buildings were demolished in East Jerusalem, and the remaining demolitions were carried out in four communities in the so-called Area C.
It said 13 of the demolished structures in Area C were being used for humanitarian purposes, including seven located in a herding community in the northern Jordan Valley.
Area C, which is under full Israeli control, makes up more than 60 percent of the entire occupied West Bank. Eighty eight percent of the area lies in the strategic Jordan Valley, which comprises a third of the occupied West Bank.
The Israeli authorities frequently demolish Palestinian buildings and residences in Area C, with Bedouin and herding communities being particularly vulnerable to that practice.
Elsewhere in the report, the OCHA said Israeli authorities conducted a total of 178 search and arrest operations in the villages and towns of the West Bank during the period.
At least 190 Palestinians were arrested during those operations, it added.
During the same period, Israeli forces also wounded a total of 173 Palestinians in numerous clashes across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem al-Quds, the report said, adding that 67 cases of injuries — some 40 percent — occurred in clashes that erupted after a group of Israeli settlers attempted to enter the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in Jerusalem al-Quds on August 11.
The OCHA also said around 268 Palestinians, including 97 children, sustained wounds during the same period after Israeli troops attacked them during the March of Return rallies in the besieged Gaza Strip.
Sixty two of the wounded were shot with live ammunition, it said.
At least 305 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces ever since the anti-occupation protest rallies began in the Gaza Strip on March 30, 2018. Over 18,000 Palestinians have also sustained injuries.
Back in March, a report by the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics (PCBS) revealed that the Israeli regime had until then occupied more than 85 percent — some 27,000 square kilometers — of the historical territories of Palestine in an expropriation process that continues unabated.

Israeli-Palestinian talks have stalled since 2014 mainly over the Tel Aviv regime’s continued settlement expansion on Palestinian territories.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Silwan (Silwanic) has reported that a Palestinian was forced to demolish his own home, Saturday, in Silwan town, in occupied East Jerusalem, to avoid the excessively high fines and fees imposed by the City Council.
Silwanic said the Palestinian, Mohammad al-Abbassi, had to demolish his home after the City Council decided to destroy the property “for being built without a permit.” video
It added that the City Council informed al-Abbassi that he either demolish his home, or the city would demolish his property, impose very high fines and fees, in addition to billing him for the costs of using its workers and machines in the destruction of his property.
Last Wednesday, the soldiers demolished two Palestinian homes in Beit Hanina town, north of occupied East Jerusalem.
Israel’s policy of home demolitions is an act of collective punishment targeting entire families, in direct violation of International Law and various international and human rights agreements.
It is worth mentioning that, according to data from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) Israeli soldiers have demolished or destroyed 265 structures, and displaced 355 Palestinians, since the beginning of this year, displacing 355 Palestinians, while the number of displaced Palestinians since the year 1967 have reached 49.4000.

The Israeli army detained early this morning three Palestinian youths from villages near Ramallah and seized street surveillance cameras in these villages, according to local sources.
They said soldiers raided homes in the village of Ein Arik, near Ramallah, and detained two youths after raiding and ransacking their homes.
Soldiers also detained a third youth, a student at Birzeit University and a former prisoner from the village of Ein Qinya, also near Ramallah, after raiding his family home.
The sources said the soldiers seized tapes from the street surveillance cameras installed by shop and homeowners in these villages.
The arrests and seizure of the cameras are believed related to the Israeli army investigation into the explosion from yesterday near the village of Ein Arik that killed one Israeli settler and injured two others.

Party leaders from the right-wing alliance, Yamina, on Wednesday announced a plan to construct 113,000 housing units in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, according to different Hebrew media outlets.
According to Yamina, the plan – which would see the settler population rise by some half a million – is a solution to Israel’s housing crisis, which has seen rising house prices.
“The Tel Aviv metropolitan area is almost as crowded as Gaza and as expensive as New York,” Yamina chief and former justice minister Ayelet Shaked claimed at a press conference held to launch the plan in Etz Efraim settlement.
“The different magic tricks we have seen in recent years have not worked. The solution is simple: to lower prices you must increase supply,” she said.
Yamina wants to construct these settler homes over a period of five years, which will link Ariel – deep in the northern occupied West Bank – with Rosh Ha’ayin inside the Green Line.
Its plan is aimed at increasing the number of Jewish settlers living in the West Bank by half a million people, which will bring their total number to about one million.
The right-wing alliance claims the Israeli population will reach 10 million by the year 2024, so it wants one million of those people to live in the West Bank.

Israeli forces, Thursday, removed by force, Palestinian vegetable stands and vendors at Wadi al-Khalil military crossing, south of Dhahriyeh in the southern occupied West Bank, according to WAFA correspondent.
He reported that the removal of the stands, will result in the vendors and their families losing their sole source of income, estimated in the thousands of dollars.
The stands used to serve hundreds of Palestinian workers who daily cross the military checkpoint to work in Israel and return home in the afternoon, buying their home needs from the vendors.
The occupation army instructed the vendors not to return to that area.
