Massive protest in Negev against intended demolition of two villages
Picture
Hundreds of Palestinians on Thursday evening participated in a rally in the Negev in protest at an Israeli court verdict ordering the demolition of Atir and Umm Hiran villages in the Negev desert.

Arab Knesset members, foreign and Palestinian activists, and residents of the villages threatened with demolition participated in the protest. According to Haaretz newspaper, a settlement for Jewish settlers called Hiran will be built in place of the two villages as part of an Israeli plan allegedly aimed at developing the entire Negev.

The protest was called for by the guidance committee for the Negev Arabs and the higher follow up committee for the Arab citizens in the 1948 occupied lands. In a speech during the protest, Arab Knesset member Talab Abu Arar accused the Israeli government of pursuing an ethnic cleansing policy against the Negev natives.

"What is happening in the Negev is ethnic cleansing and not development. All the government's plans are made to ethnically cleanse [the Palestinians]," Abu Arar said. "We will never waive our land and just demands," he stressed.

Israeli Soldiers Invade al-‘Eesawiyya And Silwan, In Jerusalem
Picture
Dozens of Israeli soldiers surrounded, on Thursday, the towns of al-‘Eesawiyya and Silwan, in occupied Jerusalem, and invaded them before firing many gas bombs, and rubber-coated steel bullets. The soldiers also broke into many homes and stores.

Mohammad Abu al-Hummus, a member of the Follow-Up Committee in Silwan, said dozens of soldiers surrounded the town, approximately at three in the afternoon, and prevented the Palestinians from entering or leaving it, in addition to searching dozens of cars and interrogated many Palestinians while inspecting their ID cards.

Abu al-Hummus added that many armored military vehicles also invaded the town, before the soldiers stormed and searched many homes, and residential building, and occupied many rooftops.

He also said clashes took place in the town, after many local youths hurled stones, empty bottles and Molotov cocktails on the invading vehicles, causing an army jeep to partially burn while the army fired several rounds of live ammunition.

The soldiers also invaded the al-‘Eesawiyya town, and kidnapped two young men from their homes, after searching them. The two have been identified as Younis ‘Oleyyan and Ali Mheisin.

The soldiers, and personnel of the City Council in additional to the Natural Reserve Authority, invaded Palestinian lands that have been recently bulldozed and uprooted, in addition to buildings that were previously demolished, and took pictures of them, in addition to confiscating a tent.

The soldiers also photographed the bulldozed and uprooted Palestinian, as Israel wants to confiscate them from their owners, in order to build the so-called “National Gardens.”

In Silwan town, south of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem, the soldiers invaded several neighborhoods and removed posters and Palestinian flags that were placed to welcome a political prisoner after his release.

The soldiers also attacked many young men and children in the town and forced them out of the area.

On Thursday evening, the soldiers invaded Be’er Ayyoub and Ein al-Louza neighborhoods in Silwan, and searched many homes and alleys, allegedly looking for youths who hurled stones on them.

The soldiers also invaded stores and shops, and ordered the owners to present their licenses and permits, and threatened to impose very high fines on merchants who have any missing documents.

Large-scale raid campaign reported south of Nablus
Picture
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) carried out at dawn Friday a large-scale raid campaign south of Nablus in the West Bank.

Several homes were violently stormed and searched in Qaryout town south of the city. Two martyrs’ homes were among the stormed houses.

Local sources told a PIC reporter that IOF soldiers investigated the homes’ owners before leaving the town. A similar raid campaign was carried out in Iraq Burin town south of Nablus in the northern West Bank. Eyewitnesses said that dozens of local houses were stormed and violently searched.

No arrests were reported during the campaign.

The sources affirmed that Israeli forces stole money and jewelry from the stormed houses. The raid campaign came as part of Israel’s collective punishment policy against Nablus city, following the stabbing attack that was carried out by local youths in Har Brakha nearby settlement.

Settlers uproot olive trees east of Nablus
Picture
Extremist Jewish settlers uprooted dozens of Palestinians’ olive trees in Deir al-Hatab town to the east of Nablus.

Mohammad Hussein, an inhabitant of the town, told the PIC reporter that the settlers uprooted over 55 olive trees from lands adjacent to Elon Moreh settlement.

The Jewish settlers deliberately carry out repeated violations against Palestinians and their properties in the West Bank under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

IOF razed 183 structures in the West Bank last February
Picture
The Center of Applied Research (ARIJ) revealed in a statement on Thursday that Israeli occupation forces (IOF) razed 183 structures in the West Bank including 97 homes and 86 facilities last February under the claim of lacking construction permits.

The center also reported that the IOF issued orders of demolition and stop of construction against 139 structures in addition to orders of confiscation of 653 dunums.

The center further revealed that Jewish settlers uprooted 180 fruitful trees and committed 41 attacks against Palestinians and their properties.

Besides, Quds Press quoted the official for settlement file in the northern West Bank, Ghassan Daghlas, as saying that 2016 has so far witnessed an escalation in the Israeli policy of home demolition as a means to pressure Palestinians.

IOF digs under the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil
Picture
Palestinian Minister of Awkaf (Endowment) Yousuf Edais said that Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) conducted excavations in the southern area leading to the underground area of the Ibrahimi Mosque in al-Khalil.

He added that the IOA is trying to take over Muslims’ worship places which are no longer safe for Muslims.

Edais called on Palestinians to sit-in at the Ibrahimi Mosque without being confined to religious occasions only in order to prevent the IOA from taking over Muslims’ sacred places.

IOF demolishes gas station east of O. J’lem
Picture
The Israeli military bulldozers demolished overnight a Palestinian gas station in Hazma town east of occupied Jerusalem for allegedly being built without Israeli permit.

Local sources affirmed that Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed the town after midnight and demolished a gas station belonging to the citizen Haitham al-Helow.

B’tselem Information center for human rights said that Israel has appropriated vast tracts of land surrounding heavily populated Palestinian areas in occupied Jerusalem and built Jewish neighborhoods on those lands.

Master plans for Palestinian neighborhoods drawn up by the Israeli Municipality are partial and are a far cry from meeting the needs of the Palestinian residents or relieving high residential density, according to the Israeli center.

Palestinian residents in occupied Jerusalem have no option but to build their homes without construction permits. Their homes face the constant threat of demolition, so residents live in a continual state of uncertainty regarding their future.

During 2015, the Israeli Municipality demolished 579 residences in occupied Jerusalem, rendering homeless 2,133 people, including 1,158 minors.

IOF to raze three Palestinian homes in al-Khalil
Picture
Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) at noon Wednesday handed demolition notices to three Palestinian families informing them of the intention to raze their homes in Yatta town in southern al-Khalil.

The coordinator of national and popular committees in southern al-Khalil, Ratib al-Jabour, told the PIC reporter that the three houses to be demolished are located in Khallet al-Mayyeh to the east of Yatta town.

Villages of Mesafer Yatta area are exposed to a ceaseless demolition campaign by the IOF aiming at displacing its inhabitants for the interest of settlement expansion.

Demolitions Continue to Escalate Despite International Attention
Picture
A wave of mass Israeli demolitions continued on Wednesday, in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem, among them a house under construction in Shuwekeh, on the outskirts of Tulkarem , according to local sources.

Witnesses said Israeli troops accompanied by a bulldozer broke into Shuwekeh and demolished the house of Khalil Ali, a local Palestinian, which is currently under construction, under the pretext of construction without an Israeli permit.

One of the relatives of Ali told WAFA the latter had received a notification from the Israeli army to stop the construction of his home about two years ago.

Local Palestinians also informed WAFA that in the past few months, several Palestinians in the outskirt received notifications regarding Israel’s intention to demolish their homes during construction.

Israeli rarely issues construction permits to Palestinians in Area C of the West Bank, under complete Israeli control, forcing many of them to embark on construction without a permit to shelter their families.

The Israeli Committee against House Demolitions (ICAHD) explains in a special report that “in almost all cases Palestinians have no choice but to build 'illegally’, as permits are almost impossible to obtain.”

“Many Palestinians have suffered multiple displacements, having lost their homes and livelihoods more than once. Forced displacement has a series of immediate and longer-term physical, socio-economic and psycho-social impacts on Palestinian families.”

In the hamlet of Khirbet Tana, northeast of Nablus, Israeli forces demolished "dozens" of structures, including houses, barns, and the hamlet's sole school, a local official told Ma'an.

Munadil Hanani, a member of the local committee of Beit Furik near Nablus, said that Israeli bulldozers under Israeli army escort had stormed Khirbet Tana on Beit Furik's outskirts and demolished every structure there.

These included Khirbet Tana's sole school, Hanani said, a building consisting of movable caravans donated by a European organization.

He said it had been equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, and had been attended by 26 local children from grades one to four.

Hanani said Israeli forces also demolished residential homes, dozens of sheep barns, and a number of other agricultural structures in the hamlet. He said that the homes were mostly built from tin, plastic, wood, and stone.

He added that Khirbet Tana's population is around 275. The only structure left untouched was an ancient shrine which serves as a mosque for the hamlet's residents.

Last month, Israeli rights group B'Tselem warned of a "new wave" of Israeli home demolitions in the occupied Palestinian territory, saying the Israeli authorities appeared to "have stepped up efforts to expel Palestinian communities from vast areas in the West Bank."

Israel almost never gives Palestinians legal permission to build in land classified as Area C, and B'Tselem said "residents have no choice but to build their homes without permits and live in constant fear of their homes and livelihoods being destroyed.

"Effectively, the state forces people to subsist in inhuman living conditions, without basic amenities and with no hope or chance for improving the situation."

The rights group went on to say that Israel's home demolitions were aimed at the displacement of Palestinians from Area C, and "reflects de-facto Israeli annexation of Area C."

It added: "Despite significant international attention to this reality, to date, no effective measures have been taken to put an end to it, which effectively means the international community is greenlighting continued human rights violations and the forcible transfer of civilians inside the occupied territory."

Meanwhile, in annexed East Jerusalem, in the neighborhood of al-Tur (Mount of Olives), Israeli forces demolished a three-story building under construction.

Witnesses said that, early on Wednesday, Israeli forces escorted bulldozers into al-Tur, where they surrounded the building and closed all roads leading toward it.

They reportedly tore down the building without telling its owners or giving any advance warning. The building consisted of three stories, each comprising two apartments.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Silwan said, in its monthly report for February, that Israeli authorities appeared to be escalating home demolitions in East Jerusalem.

It said that in February, Israeli bulldozers had torn down 16 structures there, including three apartments under construction, parts of two houses, two barns, four tin shacks, three walls, a parking lot, and a garage.

Some 579 homes have been destroyed in East Jerusalem over the last twelve years, leaving 2,133 Palestinians homeless in total, according to Israeli rights group B'Tselem.

Israeli government policies make it nearly impossible for Palestinian residents of Jerusalem to obtain building permits, according to the Association for Civil Rights in Israel.

420 Acres of Land to be Returned to Palestinians
Picture
Israel's High Court, on Wednesday, ruled that Israeli authorities are obliged to return 1,700 dunams (420 acres) of land back to private Palestinian landowners, lawyers told Ma'an News Agency.

Mohammad Shqeir and Shlomy Zachary brought the case to Israeli courts several months ago, claiming that Israeli forces illegally seized the land around 35 years previously from the Palestinian villages of Jalud, Douma, Qusra and Mikhmad in Nablus, and Deir Dubwan village in Ramallah.

According to Israeli rights' group Yesh Din, during the 1970s it was common practice to issue military seizure orders for the purpose of establishing illegal Israeli settlements.

While Israel’s High Court ruled the policy illegal in 1979, the practice continues.

“It is unfortunate that an appeal must be made to the High Court in order for the country to return private lands to their owners," Zachary said.

He added: “International law prohibits interference with private land unless it is necessary for imperative military needs. It is unfortunate that the military commander of the area has chosen not to return the lands to their rightful owners once the military necessity, inasmuch as there was one, ceased."

While Palestinians frequently take their cases to Israeli courts after Israeli land confiscation and home demolition notices are ordered, they seldom win their cases in courts.

The legal process can also be timely and too expensive for Palestinian residents to afford without the aid of rights organizations, such as Yesh Din, which specializes in such work.

Army Kidnaps Fifteen Palestinians In The West Bank
Picture
Israeli soldiers have kidnapped, earlier on Wednesday, at least fifteen Palestinians, in various military invasions targeting different parts of the occupied West Bank, including Jerusalem. The soldiers also demolished an under-construction building in Jerusalem.

In occupied Jerusalem, the soldiers stormed and searched many homes, and kidnapped four Palestinians, including a child.

The Wadi Hilweh Information Center in Silwan (Silwanic) has reported that the soldiers kidnapped Mahmoud Shaweesh, 15, from the Suwwana neighborhood, in Jerusalem.

The soldiers also kidnapped Luay Abu al-Hummus, from his home in the al-’Eesawiyya town, in the center of Jerusalem, and violently searched the property, in addition to Ahmad al-Faqeeh and Mohammad al-Faqeeh, from their homes in Qotna town, northwest of Jerusalem.

Silwanic said the soldiers shot al-Faqeeh before abducting him.

Also in Jerusalem, the soldiers demolished an under-construction residential building in the at-Tour village, east of occupied Jerusalem, allegedly for being built without a permit.

The building contained three floors of 250 square meters each, and its owners started building it approximately four months ago.

Israel imposes tight restrictions on the Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem, in addition to excessive fees and complicated procedures, in an attempt to prevent them from building homes, or expanding existing ones, an issue that pushes growing families to build before obtaining a permit, while at the same time filing legal paperwork.

The fines and fees imposed on them are in most cases much higher than construction costs.

In the southern West Bank district of Hebron, the soldiers invaded and searched several homes, and kidnapped three Palestinians from Halhoul and Beit Ummar towns, north of the city.

Media sources in Hebron said the soldiers kidnapped Saddam Ghaleb al-Baw, from Halhoul, in addition to Ahmad ‘Akef Awad, 16, and Nidal Amr Abu Mariya, 17, from their homes in Beit Ummar.

The soldiers also invaded the home of Yousef Bader Awad, and told him they were looking for his son, Rashed, 17, but he was not home.

In it worth mentioning that the soldiers have kidnapped 23 Palestinians, including eight children, from Beit Ummar town since the beginning of this year.

In the northern West Bank district of Jenin, the soldiers also searched many homes and kidnapped two Palestinians, identified as Islam Ahmad Abu Ali, 25, from Serees town, and Ghassan Mohammad N’eirat from Methaloon town.

Furthermore, the soldiers invaded Sanour town, near Jenin, searched a home, belonging to Shu’aa Jarrar, and assaulted his child Mahmoud, 15, in addition to searching the home of (late) Mofeed Omar Ayasa, and assaulting his child, Mohammad.

In Ya’bad town, south of Jenin, the soldiers stormed and ransacked many homes and kidnapped five Palestinians, identified as Mohammad Hussein Amarna, Dia Khaled Zeidi, Adham Khaled Badarna, Abed Shattour Abu Bakr, and Mohammad Hassan Abu Bakr; all in their twenties.

In Qabatia town, south of Jenin, the soldiers searched homes and kidnapped a young man, identified as Mohammad Saleh Hanthawi.

In related news, the soldiers detained five Palestinians, from Beit Rima town, northwest of Ramallah, after stopping them on the Atara roadblock, north of Ramallah, and searched dozens of cars.

The soldiers also installed a roadblock near Nabi Saleh village, before stopping and searching dozens of cars, and interrogated many Palestinians while inspecting their ID cards.

Israel knocks down Tana’s only school
Picture
The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) on early Wednesday morning knocked down the only Palestinian school in Khirbet Tana, in eastern Nablus city.

Speaking to a PIC correspondent by phone, activist Munadel Hanani said the IOA demolished the only school in Khirbet Tana, along with a set of civilian structures and agricultural barracks.

According to Hanani, Israeli army troops, escorted by military jeeps, rolled into Khirbet Tana at the early morning hours and carried out the demolition without prior notification.

The activist added that over recent months Khirbet Tana has been subjected to abrupt Israeli assaults and vandalism.

Israel razes Palestinian house east of J'lem
Picture
Israeli bulldozers destroyed under police protection on Tuesday morning a Palestinian house belonging to a Palestinian family in Silwan district, east of occupied Jerusalem, at the pretext of unlicensed construction.

According to local sources, a large number of police troops with dogs stormed Wadi Yasoul neighborhood in Silwan and blocked its entrances before the bulldozers embarked on knocking down the house.

Consequently, a shouting and shoving match broke out between police officers and owners of the house. The police forces used pepper gas and fired rubber bullets at angry citizens and members of the family to disperse them.

The Red Crescent said its paramedics provided medical assistance to six Palestinians wounded by rubber bullets in the events.

According to the Wadi Hilweh information center, the house was under construction and a family of eight individuals was intending to live in it.

The Israeli occupation authority had handed dozens of administrative demolition orders against homes and structures in Occupied Jerusalem during last February, especially in Issawiya and Silwan areas.

Israeli court endorses demolition of Palestinian martyr’s home
Picture
Israeli Supreme Court endorsed on Monday the demolition of the house of the Palestinian martyr Ibrahim Eskafi, 23, from al-Khalil in the southern West Bank.

Martyr Eskafi carried out, on November 04, 2015, an anti-occupation hit-and-run operation near Halhoul town in al-Khalil.

One Israeli soldier was killed and another was injured in the operation. Israeli forces shot him dead inside his car.

Radio Israel said that the house will be destroyed from the inside only. The inside walls will be razed and the house will be closed and no demolition date was announced, the radio added.

Report: 200 Structures razed in O.J. and W.B. in February
Picture
A report issued by al-Quds Center for Studies and Research revealed that Israeli occupation forces demolished 200 structures in Occupied Jerusalem and the West Bank during the past month of February which equals four times the number of structures razed in January 2016.

The report stated that the structures demolished included houses, farms, and stockyards. Israeli forces distributed over 50 demolition orders in different locations in Occupied Jerusalem and knocked down a house in the Negev for the claim of lacking a construction permit.

As for the West Bank, Israeli forces razed 150 structures in areas of the northern Jordan Valley and Msafer Yatta in al-Khalil governorate in addition to other locations in Ramallah, Nablus and al-Khalil cities.

Two youths arrested as IOF breaks into Nablus
Picture
The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) arrested at dawn Tuesday two Palestinian youths after breaking into the northern West Bank city of Nablus.

Eyewitnesses affirmed that two locals including a minor were detained from their homes in the city, while Israeli forces deployed throughout its neighborhoods.

The IOF soldiers have also confiscated blacksmith materials belonging to the two brothers Adnan and Alaa Ayad who were arrested on Monday.
