Peaceful Palestinian Sit-In held on Jerusalem-Jericho road to protest Israeli land grab
Picture
A peaceful protest by activists from Palestinian popular committees successfully blocked the Jerusalem – Jericho road Friday in their ongoing protest against Israeli policies to ethnically cleanse the Palestinian Bedouin communities from “Area C”.

As Stop the Wall reported last month, Israel has accelerated “the infrastructure construction to build the West Bank Bantustans…systematically suffocating the Palestinian communities to force them to leave the area.”

Accompanied by international solidarity activists, they confronted heavily-armed Israeli forces who used tear gas and stun grenades to disperse them.

In September 2014 Israel published plans (#1418 and #1419) to forcefully evict thousands of Bedouins from their residences in Area C (although they didn’t use those words) and corral them into a new “Bedouin township” in Nuweimeh near Jericho, thus clearing the area for the expansion of illegal Israeli settlement around Ma’ale Adumim, Kefar Adumim, Rimonim, Yitav and other settlements in the area. According to the Jahalin Association, the plans would have the effect of “judaising [the land] from East Jerusalem down to Jericho.”

According to the Jahalin Association, the plan will involve the transfer of Bedouin families from the Jerusalem, Ramallah and Jericho peripheries across three different Bedouin tribes: the Jahalin, Kaabneh and Rashayda. This includes communities from the controversial E-1 area. The targeted Bedouin communities strongly object to the Nuweimeh plans for a host of reasons.

An expert legal opinion by Professor Marco Sassoli and Dr. Theo Boutrouche examined the case and concluded that if the plan were to be implemented it would constitute forcible transfer, prohibited under Article 47 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, which is a grave breach of the Convention and may amount to a war crime.

Activist said the main goal of protest, along with alerting people to the ongoing displacement of the Palestinian Bedouins, was “to confirm that occupied Jerusalem is a Palestinian capital and Palestinians have the full right to enter Jerusalem city freely”. For more information on the dire implications of these plans please check out the Fact Sheet as to the Implications of the E-1 Development/Displacement Plan.

The plans that Israel published in September are open to public objection until December 3rd. A sub-committee of Israeli Military governing body that controls Area C is authorized to approve the plans but after it has received objections it must consider those objections and hold a public hearing before issuing a decision, which can then be appealed to the Israeli High Court.

Lawyers and planners for the Bedouin communities will object to the plans and represent their clients at the hearings. To protest the Israeli relocation plan individual citizens and organizations, have standing to make such objections to The Subcommittee for Objections, Civil Administration, P.O. Box 16 Bet El 90631, and do not need to be represented at the hearing.

Article 49 of the Geneva Convention relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War of 1949 reads as follows:

Individual of mass forcible transfers, as well as deportations of protected persons from occupied territory to the territory of the Occupying Power or to that of any other country, occupied or not, are prohibited, regardless of their motive.

Nevertheless, the Occupying Power may undertake total or partial evacuation of a given area if the security of the population or imperative military reasons so demand. Such evacuations may not involve the displacement of protected persons outside the bounds of the occupied territory except when for material reasons it is impossible to avoid such displacement. Persons thus evacuated shall be transferred back to their homes as soon as hostilities in the area in question have ceased… The Occupying Power shall not deport or transfer parts of its own civilian population into the territory it occupies

The forcible transfer of the Bedouin tribes living in Area C is not motivated by any imperative military reasons, nor is it being proposed in order to protect the civilian population from imminent danger arising from nearby military operations.

Israel annexes vast tract of Palestinian land to expand Eli settlement
Picture
The Israeli civil administration of the West Bank said it had annexed dozens of dunums of Palestinian land to expand Eli settlement located on highway 60 north of Jerusalem and Ramallah.

According to Israeli news reports on Wednesday, the civil administration seized 221 dunums of land located in Palestinian villages to build 620 housing units and annex them to the settlement.

For their part, municipal chiefs in the Palestinian villages of Sawiya, Laban and Qaryout filed, in cooperation with Israeli human rights groups, a petition with the Israeli higher court to stop the final approval of the new structural plan of the settlement and the annexation of Palestinian-owned lands located in the villages.

IOA to bury bodies of deceased youths in secret cemetery
Picture
The Israeli occupation authorities (IOA) notified the families of the murdered Palestinian youths, Ghassan and Udai, of intents to bury their bodies in the so-called Israeli cemeteries of numbers.

A letter sent to the families’ lawyer by Shaul Gordon, the general attorney of the Israeli occupation police, threatened to never return the bodies of the deceased youths and to withhold their bodies in an Israeli graveyard.

The letter further mentioned the IOA’s intents to knock down the homes of Udai and Ghassan’s families.

Such “exceptional” measures have allegedly been issued as a means to deter further anti-Israeli occupation attacks.

Earlier, the Israeli prosecutor general’s office on Monday transferred jurisdiction over appeals to return the bodies of Ghassan and Udai to the police's legal adviser.

Udai and Ghassan were killed by the Israeli police following a retaliation-attack on a Jewish synagogue in Occupied Jerusalem, an attack dubbed by historiographers as a natural retort and expected scenario to Israel’s terrorism on Palestinian civilians and Muslims’ holy shrines.

Israeli occupation court rebuffs petition against demolition of Palestinian homes
Picture
Legal adviser to the Israeli Home Front Minister on Monday turned down a petition objecting to Israel’s intents to knock down the Hijazi and Akari family homes in Occupied Jerusalem.

The demolition notice is set to be put into effect on Wednesday morning.

Lawyer of the Akari family, Medhat Diba, said he will petition the Israeli Magistrates’ Court in the next couple of days to reconsider the demolition issue.

The lawyer said the court's rule was motivated by Section 119 of the Israeli Emergency Defense Regulations endorsing the demolition and confiscation of Palestinian estates under the security pretext.

He further warned of the repercussions of the decision on the cluster of homes adjacent to the targeted buildings.

Diba said he filed the petition on the basis that the targeted homes are set over UNRWA-run tracts but the Israeli occupation court turned down the appeal allegedly due to emergency requirements.

Meanwhile, a court hearing was held on Monday at the Magistrate’s court to consider a petition against a ruling for the demolition of the Ja’abis family home in Jabal al-Mukabir.

In another development, the Israeli prosecutor general’s office on Monday transferred jurisdiction over appeals to return the bodies of Ghassan and Udai abu al-Jamal to the police legal adviser, lawyer of Ad-Dameer institution Muhammad Mahmoud said.

He said a rule on the affair is expected to be issued within the next few hours.

Udai and Ghassan passed away following a retaliation-attack on a Jewish synagogue in Occupied Jerusalem, an attack dubbed by historiographers as a natural retort and expected scenario to Israel’s terrorism on Palestinian civilians and Muslims’ sanctuaries.

In another context, the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine on Monday slammed the attempts of the Israeli premier Netanyahu to advise a bill to rescind the citizenship of families of Palestinian Jerusalemites involved in anti-Israel attacks.

“Palestinians’ fight for freedom in Occupied Jerusalem is a battle against a racist, cancerous entity that colonized our land and robbed its native owners of their rights,” a PFLP statement read.

Large march in J’lem protesting demolition of Akkari’s home
Picture
Hundreds of Jerusalemites took into streets Friday evening throughout Shufat refugee camp in occupied Jerusalem protesting Israeli order to demolish home of Ibrahim Akkari, the man who rammed his car into a group of settlers near a light rail station in occupied Jerusalem before he was gunned down.

Hundreds of Jerusalemites marched towards the martyr’s home in support of his family especially after the Israeli demolition order.

Earlier Thursday, large Israeli forces stormed Shufat camp to deliver a demolition order issued against the house of Ibrahim Akkari within 48 hours.

Ibrahim Akkari was killed by Israeli security men after running over a group of settlers near a light rail station in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. An Israeli settler died during the incident while 13 others were injured.

For its part, al-Dameer Foundation said that the Israeli authorities suspended demolition orders issued against homes of Mutaz Hijazi, Ghassen and Udy Abu Jabal, who recently carried out operations against Israeli targets, until their families’ appeals are heard.

Meanwhile, fresh clashes broke out overnight between Israeli forces and Palestinian youths throughout occupied Jerusalem.

Jerusalemite youths said that violent clashes erupted in the Old City, and different neighborhoods and camps in the occupied city.

Israeli forces threatened to cut off electricity in Issawiya town, which led to the outbreak of large confrontations protesting the Israeli threats.

Along the same line, Israeli forces arrested Friday two Jerusalemite children for allegedly trying to carry out stabbing attack in the Old City.

Israeli sources said that the two detained children were taken to Israeli Intelligence headquarters for investigation.

Israeli authorities declared Thursday evening a new security plan to provide security and protection for Jewish individuals while ignoring the safety of Jerusalemite natives who are exposed to systematic daily attacks by Israeli settlers and policemen.

Palestinians prevent demolition of Akkari's home
Picture
Local residents managed today to prevent the execution of an Israeli demolition order against the house of Ibrahim Akkari, the man who rammed his car into a group of settlers near a light rail station in occupied Jerusalem.

Jerusalemite sources confirmed that hundreds of youths in Shuafat refugee camp closed all roads leading to Akkari’s home with burning tires in light of the heavy presence of Israeli forces who encircled the house in an attempt to storm it.

Ibrahim Akkari was killed by Israeli security men after running over a group of settlers near a light rail station in Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood. An Israeli settler died during the incident while 13 others were injured.

Violent clashes erupted late yesterday between Israeli forces and local youths in the camp as Israeli forces tried to implement the demolition order. The youths threw stones and used fireworks during the clashes, forcing the troops out of the camp.

Over 70 notices to stop construction served in Jericho

Israeli bulldozers demolished, on Thursday, a number of mobile homes to the east of At-Tayba village, east of Ramallah. Near Hebron, forces seized a tractor and four water tanks, while residents of ‘Ein ad-Duyuk at-Tahta, to the northwest of Jericho, were served with over 70 notices to halt construction.

Israeli forces accompanied by military bulldozers arrived to an area east of At-Tayba village, where they proceeded to demolish mobile homes belonging to one Yousef Ka‘abna, seizing the contents of the homes.

WAFA notes that forces had previously demolished their house in late August.

Also on Thursday, Israeli forces seized an agricultural tractor and four water tanks from an area to the east of Yatta, in the south of Hebron.

Forces and ‘zoning’ officers reportedly broke into Susiya, in Massafer Yatta, where they seized a water-loaded tractor belonging to Muhammad al-Nawaj‘a, according to Rateb Jabour, Coordinator of the Popular Committee against Wall and Settlements.

They also seized four water tanksintended to provide locals living in tents and sheet metal structures with drinking water. The tanks belonged to ‘Imran, Isma‘il, Jaber and Ahmad al-Nawaj‘a.

Meanwhile, to the northwest of Jericho, Israeli force served residents of ‘Ein ad-Duyuk at-Tahta with stop-construction notices.

Forces raided ‘Ein ad-Duyuk at-Tahta, where they served residents with some 72 notices to stop construction on their structures and to remove several tents, under the pretext that they are located in disputed land which is part of the Jerusalem district, said Head of al-Maleh Village Council ‘Aref Daraghma.

Mr. Daraghma added that over 40 families will be displaced as a result.

Palestinians now constitute the largest refugee population in the entire world.

Over 80 Palestinian homes, civilian structures slated for demolition by IOF
Picture
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) overnight Wednesday notified the families of the suspects in the recent attacks on a Jewish synagogue in Occupied Jerusalem that their homes, along with 76 others in Jericho and al-Khalil, are slated for demolition.

The threat came following Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu’s directives to demolish the suspects’ family homes.

The Israeli premier reiterated pledges to knock down more Palestinian houses in occupied Jerusalem under the security pretext.

Netanyahu threatened during a tour around the police surveillance centers in Jerusalem: “Exterminating terrorism is a complex mission. We will continue to knock down more homes.”

In a related development, the Israeli occupation army late night Wednesday handed dozens of demolition and evacuation orders to Palestinian families in the eastern West Bank city of Jericho.

“The occupation army handed me a written notification to demolish my home and uproot my trees within 45 days,” Palestinian citizen Mosaab Abu Khalaf told Quds Press.

Abu Khalaf said the demolition orders target 72 Palestinian civilian homes in the C Area.

Documents corroborating Palestinians’ land rights and sovereignty over the area were displayed by the owners of the targeted homes and tracts.

The IOF further notified the demolition of four Palestinian homes and civilian structures in Um al-Kheir Hamlet, in Yatta, south of al-Khalil city, under the pretext of unlicensed construction, activist Rateb al-Jabour told the PIC.

Al-Jabour said such demolition threats make part of a larger Israeli occupation scheme aimed at cracking down on Palestinian natives and step up Judaization and illegal settlement expansion in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Settlers Attack Village Near Nablus; Residents Briefly Detained Two
Picture
A number of extremist Israeli settlers invaded, Thursday, the village of Qusra, south of the northern West Bank city of Nablus, and attacked property before local villagers chased them, and briefly detained two.

Ghassan Daghlas, a Palestinian official in charge of Israeli Settlements file in northern West Bank, said the settlers came from Yesh Kodesh illegal settlement, south of the village.

Daghlas added that local youths surrounded the invading settlers, and held two of them for more than 30 minutes, before the Palestinian District Coordination office intervened, and handed them to the Israeli side.

The official further stated that clashes took place in the village after several Israeli military vehicles invaded it, and handed the residents military orders to demolish six water wells.

Israeli occupation to seize Palestinian land tracts, build 78 settlement units
Picture
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) Wednesday threatened to seize dozens of Palestinian land tracts covering thousands of dunums  in the northern West Bank cities of Jenin and Tulkarem.

A PIC correspondent said the IOF stormed the targeted land tracts and handed the owners confiscation notifications, warning them against using the land for construction or cultivation.

Palestinian citizen Mohamed Amarna from Yabad town told the PIC that the issue is based on a military resolution signed in 2009. He appealed to the concerned authorities to call off the law.

Meanwhile, the so-called Israeli local committee for planning and construction in Occupied Jerusalem approved bids for the construction of 78 settlement units in East Jerusalem.

The Walla news website said the ratification was carried out despite the tension that has been running high in occupied Jerusalem.

Four members of the committee voted in favor of the tender, one voted against.
